  1. I'll take that over a karma point any day. You'll be right. Just think of an alvey as the old holden red motor in a sea of efi v6's
  2. Basically it will just be a pulldown of parts. Spool off the backing plate which is probably where any sand has accumulated. Just keep everything in order on disassembly is about the only tip I can give as they really are a very basic setup. When I did mine I gave everything a cleanup with turps then hot water and detergent. A re oil on reassembly and it is sweet as. Jump on the alvey website as there is a little bit of info there on maintenance of reels concerning the use of grease and/or oil.Good luck mate. It aint that hard but you will end up with something that will outlast anything else
  3. Excellent tutorial mate, and nice looking rod too
  4. Yeah they are AFF, but not like this 1 more squid/cuttly and it would have falen apart on its own. He has just thrown it out. The whole nose has come away Nothin like gettin the kids out for a fish Dubs. They had a ball and there was only 1 inking incident

Its nice to do so, but Im finding my reels are lasting me five years or so atleast anyway and Ive never pulled one of them apart or paid for servicing.I know Maybe ive been bloody lucky.. Pay good money so wanna look after stuff like that. I found a major advantage to the alvey is minimal maintenance. Good wash off, the odd drop of oil here
  6. Took Snappermania and his little brother and cousin Squidding this morning hoping to get some some bait and a feed. Went to a spot that is used quite often and threw some jigs in. SM's cousin was the first to land a good sized cuttly on a multicoloured "4 for $10" special. SM followed suit fairly quickly bringing in a good sized calamari on a green cheapy ( Lost his good jig last time we went squidding) . Being caught on the cheapies I threw in a blue cloth covered cheapie and guess wot.............NOTHING. About 50 casts with this thing which has been a very successful jig and still nothing

  8. Cheers Brenton. Thought I was havin a bit of trouble with composition as these fish arent the most cooperative of subjects These mf 40s cast a mile and dont swim too bad but I think the scent disappeared a long time ago Havin a lot of fun experimenting with the light tackle stuff.

  10. Check out the links AFF. On sale online One of them wanted 7 bucks plus postage. Cheap lure but as a throwaway item coupla bucks for some hooks and split rings and 2 mins of your time its definitely a diy job for sure
  11. A couple more links to bottle cap lures?http://www.hooklure.com/Bottle_Cap_Fishing_Lures.htmhttp://www.boganbeerlure.com.au/Theboganlurerange/tabid/57/Default.aspxhttp://rednecklure.tripod.com/http://www.crownseallures.com/75.html
  12. Obviously not a new idea but whatever works.http://www.fishyfishing.com/News/article/sid=6.htmlMakes you wonder what really makes a lure so appetising to fish. Is it the sparkle that metals give off if so then why do sp's work so well? Is it the colours? What about the scents that are applied or inbuilt to some lures?? The vibrations created as the lure "swims" through the water? Blades really seem to attract fish from what I have experienced. Maybe looking like a natural bait? Or is it that a fish will have a shot at anything that is in its path that looks meal sized????
  13. As Nev mentioned I am running platypus platinum at the moment 30lb. Its abrasion resistance is excellent and price wise is very competitive. In my opinion its either the cheapest crap u can buy which may or may not break at the advertised breaking strain or spend a little more on a product that i know i can rely on.

  17. Good luck. Think its becomin worth more than gold its that hard get onto a supply these days. I remember when it was hard to give away
  18. Maybe its an optical illusion
  19. Cheeers blokes. Was beginning to think it was just a salmon rod there for a while cos thats all I seemed to be catching with it. But its had a taste of red now so hopefully a large model is on the cards soon.Softy I keep bein told you get the odd salmon around the rocks but I seem to have been getting them with a bit of consistency... Why?????? Max is certainly an impressive looking rod. Funny thing is nevs snyder is supposed to be 153 inches but only looks 6-9 inches shorter than max??? I have measured Max and he is definitely a 177 inch rod I had a cast with Nevs today and it doesnt feel an
  20. Nothing huge But Max finally has some snapper blood on its grips.....Went for an early mornin fish hoping that Nev had left some snapper for others to catch Conditions were calm but foggy. I couldnt even see Whyalla from where I was fishing, come to think of it, it was that bad I couldnt even see my car which was only 100m away  During the first hour I caught 4 undersize snapper with the last one being the smallest Then things went quiet for about 20 mins before I noticed the tip of Max tapping away slowly. I picked the rod up and let it tap a few more times and the last bite felt

The jigging assist hooks I have used are size 6/0 and that is on a 40g halco gold twisty the 65g raider has a pair of 5/0 gamakatsu occy circles. I probably wouldnt go any bigger than that even on your 85g lure. I am still thinking of changing my 45g raider to a rear single hook probably as a 1/0 to 3/0. I have a 20g raider which I replaced the treble on a while ago and the hooks on that look to be around a size 4? So for your smaller 15 and 10g lures I w

Maybe once your done this post can be stickied for future reference as this is the sorta stuff that will be asked about often. As an aside maybe a post or section could go up where people can show off their rod building/repair skills. Ideas for rod builds even?????Ps karma point for the tutorial

    Hooks

On one I have a pair of occy circles back to back and the others are jigging assist hooks attached to the front eye of the lures.
