  1. And then hold on for the ride "YI-HAAAAA" I have always just tired them out and walked them to the beach also, seems to work ok.Stenhouse Bay has the ladder that goes down to the water.Have had a mate hold the rod while I went down the ladder to un-hook and photo etc,but not a good move in a swell, too dangerous!
  2. When fishing from the beach with a large bait for mulloway etc,and a long cast required,I tend to let the sinker run all the way down to the hook.Reason being, I have found that with a swivel eg 50cm(or more) above the hook, and the sinker above that, sometimes find that your bait and sinker tend to "helicopter" around one another. This can sometimes result in a huge tangle around the mainline, and a "very ordinary" bait presentation.Interested to hear if some of you other fellas have had this problem?Same for me with a paternoster in the surf;having the hook trace-line and the sinker trace-line t

  5. I agree that the Port is all but gone for the land-based fisho these days.Even if you do manage to find a spot, the chances of meeting the "un-desirables that dwell after dark" is extremely high.I tend to think about giving it a miss these days, and head further afield.Unfortunate, but true.Probably WestLakes as previously mentioned is your best bet.Nothing like your kids getting their first fish Good luck.
  6. Not being a boatie myself,I would suggest the first logical question you should ask is "where am I going to be using it"? eg open sea, sheltered waters, estaury or river etcThat to me, would determine what sort of boat I should be looking at eg dinghy or full cab or what-ever.How often are you looking at going out? This could also determine if it would be better to either go "shares" in a boat with a mate,or just "bum a ride" every now and then, paying your expenses along the way,or simply go on a charter every once in a while.Hope that helps with the logic behind it all a bit
