  1. I actually read all of the posts on both these threads, so who owes ME an apology :PI've seen the official algae story and it's plausible. But I find it very strange that;-Fish have washed up dead for no clear reason.(except loose explanation of algae bloom - I've seen them temp.spikes).-Dolphins and penguins have washed up in the similar timeframe with demonstrable injuries. (clearly not algae related).WHY IS IT, that PIRSA haven't been able to tell us 100% what's happened? Or any other appropriate formal govt. Response.HAS this ever happened before here in SA??? Or interstate?? Very st
  2. My god there's been.some good fish posted in this little thread!! :woohoo: great fishin'Don't forget to start a whole report thread of yer own now and then yeah I returned to some favourite old port river rocks this morning. Boat battery was dead, but enjoyed a relaxing little session land based. Not too much to write about... Bream were fairly quiet but managed a good one that made my day.Pic doesn't do it justice, but gave a great account of itself...
  3. Mine would be this 9kg Snapper. Was fishing for mulloway in a little 3m gutter and this thing hit and went berserk. Thought it was a monster mulloway, id never caught a mully over 9 kg at that stage, and this beast seemed like it must be my holy grail Jewie! The fish had two really hard runs, but then every time I turned it, it would take off again :laugh:I started to think something was weird, cos it just didn't seem right for a mulloway :silly:When I first saw the red flanks I nearly fell out the boat with surprise! a long time after I saw color, the fish was finally calm enough for me to a
  4. I was down there at Christmas and parked.in the carport. We walked onto the beach (which way is North south lol?) we turned right and walked only like 200m and twisted our feet in the wash. Billions of cockles mate! Was down on Saturday too. I took my triton and drove to the mouth. I've done a lot of 4wding before, but never ever driven to the mouth so was very wary. I put the tyres right down to 15psi like I used to do with the old 110 landrovers in the super soft.As we prepared for decent, a Patrol got bogged like 40m away. Mrs freaked out but I just thought bugger it and drove past the
  5. Last night there were two modified hilux's came and over took us.... They were hightailing it... I was 40-45 and they passed me one either side with one bouncing up high in the soft, and the other did a big drift in the wet stuff, unsure if he meant to do it, or nearly lost it :laugh:But im taking bait next time for the fishies, that's 4 sure
  6. Haha, went back today again armed with Lures and caught nothin. Beautiful day for a swim though
  7. Well, sitting back having a beer now. Pooped!Went down to 15psi, 4Hloc and hoofed along in 2 gear sitting on 40, revving about 2300.Very smooth, nice trip with the windows down. Mucked around inside.the mouth and.flicked.a 5" minnow. Didn't catch anything hahaHad a swim with the.kids and built a sand castle. Loads of fun.The biggest danger is the occasional idiot. Oh and a patrol was stuck near the.entrance. I think they must ve stopped or stalled... Bit silly really. Cheers for the advice, much appreciated
  8. Haha, I bought a cheap one. Pumps the kids tyres up and is handy for footy's but didn't do a bloody thing for the truck tyres... :(How much is a decent one?
  9. PERFECT Jaggs thanks mate, exactly what I was after.Hey, should I let my tyres down, and if I do, do I need a gauge and then where do I pump the buggers up again.Or in 4x4 with good clearance, and that, does is matter ? Just keep the revs up in the soft stuff & im fine?Do they have a recovery vehicle on site?
  10. Right then! Once again leaving the majestic beauty of Adelaides mighty port river... And goin to a more feral part of the world....THATS RIGHT... Heading to the deep south.Surprisingly, I have never driven from goolwa beach to the mouth :ohmy:I've heard that every single strikehook member has done this no less than 3 dozen times, so hopefully someone might be kind enough to give me the hot tip ;)I want to take the kids too, so am keen to know re safety. I figure the ocean side should be good for cockles and that (w kids, like goolwa itself). Do youse reckon there's a big long long friendly st
  11. Nice work PaulyS, I have heard some.good schooly reports North and South, but haven't been.out.for three weeks now (except.one westlakes family sesh).... Im having serious withdrawals.Sad I've been crook and busy at work.and blah blah bloody blah... Haha, cheers for your little reports though good to hear fish about!!
  12. Man, I think Snook away from rocks and jetties and that is about thinking outside the box.You can go trolling around in the hopes of discovering a school, this works. For a "make them come to you" session, here's what I find works;Get yourself into Tommie and Gar mode! Nice surface slick of oil and grain. Then as miraculously happens, the tommies & or Gar appear outta nowhere. Sometimes even slimey macks or whatever. This is fun fishing in itself right, unwieghted or floating gents and yer into a good bread n butter sesh.Stick a big rod down cos wherever this action is goin on, you never
  13. Nice one Milmo! I didn't manage to get out this week so I kinda know what you mean.
  14. Yeah thanks... I did an outstanding job with the net
  15. Hi all,After a couple decent seasons on the school fish, this summer has been a bit err different ;)How have you, or your extended fishing network faired around metro??For me and mine it's been a case of bigger fish encountered, but plenty of missed opportunities, unfortunately :(One mate of mine was lucky to get a full size 60pounder about a month back. This was a port river fish, but these are not an everyday occurrence lol.My boat has still found some fish, but many missed hook ups and some thunderous bust offs. I personally have been Jew-less for a little too long fir my liking :laugh:The
  16. With respect, this capture di'd not happen... Ie a 60cm yellowfin bream. It's clear to me that the poster was mistaken in his identification of the species... The claim that there are loads of undersized yellowfin judging by their yellow coloured fins.I think the Glenelg river is a good study of the potential for yellowfin bream to be captured a long way south, with both black and yellowfin bream captures reported.
  17. Nobody caught a yellowfin Bream in Westlakes... Although a 60cm schoolie you didn't quite land could fool you for a Bream. Also, if you're catching a lot of standard 20cm westlakes bream, and you hook a 40cm beast, you could be forgiven for getting excited and calling it a 60cm monster, they sure do look impressive @ 40-50cm... A calm head and a straight tape measure would have brought you down to earth.... Although, a big +40cm bream is still quite a fish. Also, Black bream can be all sorts of colours from sand loving bright silver flanks and yellow fins, to a filthy bronze.Apart from the.fish
