  1. 'Twas a bit sad as it didn't make it My Bride is the gourmet cook, she has the most amazing recipes Ask Matt89 what he thought of the ginger and garlic white sauce, with chopped spring onions he had poured over some big redfin fillets for our dinner at my house recently :woohoo:

    mullet mix

ANY sort of mince meat, semolina powder as a stiffening agent, liberal sprinkling of any curry powder and don't forget the tiny 3to4mm bits of cubed up chicken breast meat as hook bait Fails me never
  3. Definitely a big thrill AFF after chasing these predators for almost 6 years on most week ends :PBetter than SEX??? Anything is nowadays
  4. Very slowly climbing up that ladder to a 2 kilo Redfin Guess I'll have to be satisfied with this beauty for the time being 1.6 kgs and 48 cms long :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Caught in a SAFWAA Dam on a Spoon
  5. Good work Brenton, never have filleted them this way and was just reading in SA Angler a cracking article on "Butterflying" and was tempted to try it,after reading yours I'm all fired up now :woohoo: Karma your way
  6. I had a strong fancy you'd enjoy that title Rollcast One of my favourites was the mating Black Gnats, two tiny black cock hackles one at the eye and one at the bend with some black tying silk for the body, tied on a size 20, fished Dry of course I used to blow my mates away on the English Reservoirs where big "streamer" style patterns fished fast where all the go The ridicule soon turned to requests to "Make me a few up mate!", very satisfying, maybe more so than the Rainbows I caught up to 7lb 6ozs ;)Another second choice fly was the wet "Black and Peacock Spider" Black hen hackle, peacock
  7. Aaaah Haaaah, the plot thickens, there are two sides to every coin Interesting input Cal, it might just be that there is an exception to every rule. Now to check out my "dropshot" for graphite content
  8. WOW, that's blown me away guys, 64 years on the planet, take away ten years to grow past the toddler stage and the rest fishing my heart out and I'd never heard of "backbone"  :ohmy:As they say, "you are dead when you stop learning"Thanks both of you for awesome reports
  9. Hey guys, an interesting point was raised the other day at the ramp when I bumped into a very knowledgeable fisho of my acquaintance. He noticed my 4 to 8 kg Drop shot spinning rod, which is rigged with the large eyes on it for an egg beater, was fitted with my Abu 9000c overhead reel for a snapper session! His issue was, that the two different styles of reel, load up the rod in opposite directions and he said that a "backbone" was built into the rods to compensate for this :unsure:Any thoughts/comments on this?

Cal wrote: I reckon they would of just got "Bugs Bunny" on a life time fibre extraction contract Cal On a more practical note tho, Joe really knows his fishing tackle, has been in the trade for a long time, fishes in tournos where he does very well and I'd be leaning towards respecting his advice on this one
  11. AND again, is this hi tech geek talk designed to impress the un informed and incite every one to lust after the latest tech??
  12. Cal,have you got shares in the company??
  13. Joepro, President SAFWAA on here is sponsored by them and brought a few to a SAFWAA meeting to show the guys!Great looking/feeling rod but I'm personally not sure at all about the marketing strategy behind the system To liken a fishing rod to a carrot seems nonsensical to me although the technology is only applied to carrot fibre additives to the graphite base to build the rods :blink:The rod is even carrot coloured as well Now, "Shimano Raider", of which I own four sweet examples, that's a name to sell a finesse rod

Gotta luv your sheer persistence Mick Gotta be rewarded soon and I'll be the first to congratulate you when you are
  15. You could also take a leaf out of LBB's book as he is feeding his near 5 kg Callop in his holding tank, with nice fat live Goldfish from the pet shop Tho', on second thoughts, maybe that's why there are so many feral Goldies in the Murray
  16. I've used frogmouths and whitebait as ground bait/berley and also on ganged hook, free lined rigs to try and tempt a biiig reddy out , but none have come out to play so far :unsure:Oh Well, back to the lures, hope you guys have a bit more luck
  17. I sympathise with you mate, I have major problems whenever I contemplate a trip out any where, especially as I combine my hunting and fishing sports together on some occasions. On a recent 4 hour trip I took my .22 rimfire, my 243 Centrefire, a new air rifle (needed sighting in, couldn't wait) My finesse Raider rod and a Fly fishing outfit.Had to think of 3 different lots of ammo, box of flies and my 5 kg rucksack of never to be left behind, killa SP's and HB's (only used two lures!!!)Yep we're a crazy lot. If you find a solution please pass it on as it takes me ages to load all this gear to go

Another 2 tips Mick, get the light behind you and secondly take ship loads of shots then post the best pic B)Try holding/supporting the fish under its tummy, but make sure your hand is wet to preserve the fish's slime coating

Any chance you'd be at the meeting thursday Mick?I've got a yearning to try that "popper" of yours on the YFW's down my way :Ptry holding your catch in your free hand when taking the pics, has a lot more impact in close up, even the bubs good work on persevering with the Fly Fishing
  21. AND here they are :woohoo: A good range of colours too
  22. 10 out of 10 boys, give your selves a pat on the back
  23. yep, I fiddle about with my reddy catch for hours, but it's all worth while when I see those beaut li'l pinkish, boneless and skinless fillets neatly piled on the plate :woohoo:
  24. I can vouch for the vibration, it's even stronger than a manufactured blade and it has a very wide wobble, not a tight shimmy like the bought ones. I fancy that's what was driving the shoal to feed so well as reddys normally follow the first fish in which breaks the shoal up and makes 'em a bit more wary! not so with the BS (Building Site) Blade
  25. These young fellas never cease to impressMatt89 had his thinking cap on at the weekend and with a bit of scrap metal from the building site, some plastic eyes from"spotlight", a bit of lead and some superglue, he fashioned a couple of Blades in different sizes which proved to be better than Dynamite on a local Dam's Reddy population!!!He tried both the smaller and the bigger sizes and a steady stream of fish kept coming to the bankside!!My "Bigeye" couldn't keep up, Matt had a dozen before I got my first, then I had to poach out of the feeding shoal he had in front of him!! Good work mate, whe
