    Cockling

Hey, buddy,I'm impressed, even 300 decent cockles would be worth the trip down there :icon_e_surprised: :icon_e_biggrin:Another plus is I've recently scored a nice little Reddy spot not too many stones throws away from the cockling :icon_e_biggrin: ;)I was no mean hand at the old "Chubby Checker" dance either, I own a wet suit and now that I've got a big fat arse, I should get my bag limit in less than 30 minutes :icon_lol:Thanks for the tips mate. :fishing:Cheers, Tony.

    Cockling

Hey Buddy,Never been before ???. Is there much involved in catching them? do you have to measure them? what is the limit? where is "further down the beach?" Can you get 'em at any stage of the tide?Again, just curious, not sure I'd trail down there for cockles as that precious time could be spent catching those scaly fish thingos instead.Cheers, Tony.

    Fly Fishing

Heaps interested in your musings MJ,thinking back on my own 40+ years of on/off Fly Fishing I found it impossible to pin down a single part which kept me enthralled by it all :-\I reckon it's the whole experience. Being outdoors, sometimes in truly spectacular surroundings, being at one with the natural world, enjoying mans most primeval urge, to hunt!! The thrill of catching a wild animal in its own element where everything favours its native cunning developed from it's ancestors. The many pleasant hours working over the Fly tying vice to perfect a work of art which will convince your prey tha
  4. Had my EA Falcon for 5 years, finest thing I did was re coring the Rad. Stopped the overheating which is the commonest cause of engine death. The sludge build up is phenomenal on these engines.
  5. [i heard last night they were surface feeding on flying ants at the lake.A mate who has a dozen or so decent trout in his backyard pond reckons they were going ape pooh for the Ants, leaping like crazy, eating thousands of them :oSorry to hear about your misfortune Mickyj, hope you find a solution soon. A fly reel after all is little more than a line holder and virtually anything does, so I reckon go back to your old familiar until you win "Power Ball" :icon_e_biggrin:Cheers, tonyb.
  6. Obviously a gourmet Chef who really knows all about Abalone :stir: :icon_e_biggrin:
  7. It's a never ending story .These little guys will tackle anything.Hey boaties, better watch out for your .anchor.'s next time your out on the Briny!!!
  8. Lots of scales come off them on the filletting board Luke, but well worth putting up with that as the flesh is nicely textured and hell tasty as well.Been C&Ring them for nearly 20 years and only recently found out how good they are on the table through a recommend. Take no prisoners now 8) 8)
  9. Yep, starting to be popular in the UK so may be a source there to follow up on the net :-\I know the Yanks also use the float tubes for duck hunting on their swamps. Don't know how tasty the Alligators find them tho' :stir:

    Carp Lotto

Hey Buddy,We had a Fisheries Scientist give a talk on SA fish of all sorts at one of the SAFWAA meetings. Apparently they fit radio antennae of different types, some under the skin and larger ones like yours to gather data. But not only Carp. Some of the carp travel hundreds of miles :icon_e_surprised:Hope that helps a bit anyway Stu.Cheers, tonyb.
  11. Thanks grumpy for sharing those marks, just a question, are the Lats and Longs on your lists, which are unmarked, under the newer WGS94 system? They say there's not a whole heap of difference to the older WGS 84 but it could make a fair bit if it was a wreck or smaller structure. Thanks again.Cheers, tonyb.
  12. Ever thought about a couple of Redfin, speccy looking fish, freshwater, easy to feed 8) 8)Must admit I'm a bit biased, kept em for a long time myself and if you get tired of them they're a tremendous bread crumb fried feed :icon_e_biggrin:
  13. Seabreeze or windguru.com will satisfy your every need mate :icon_e_biggrin:
  14. Hey, red_devil,Best tip I can give you is to beg, borrow or steal, Adam "Mad Dog" Royters "Berkley Gulp" soft plastics DVD. Tells you absolutely everything you'll ever want to know as regards SP's as he goes through the whole range and shows off the best style for each one.Great tips as well, I've just posted a catch of 88 Redfin in the Freshwater section on a "Bulky Hawg" which is used by him to catch a big Trout on the DVD. The tip he gave was to nip off the "Hawgs" claws to make it resemble a "Mudeye" (underwater buggy thingo). What more can I say, highly recommended, plus I know a keen red
  15. Don't know about the others peeli, but when my knots at the rod tip, my lure touches the reel. Always listening for those wind knots, so I cant have my "Allbright" causing grief as well mate. :)Cheers. tonyb.
  16. Yep, Thahn's on the right track, more braid line area, means more friction, means more grip. If you think of the flurocarbon the braid only traps it in it's own bend shape and it's not really knotted technically.Still, I imagine peeli's single braid would have applications, maybe if you wanted to use a heaps long fluro leader so the smaller knot would pass through the top eye of the rod a bit more smoothly. All good stuff guys, cheers, tonyb.
  17. Thanks Thahn, not ashamed to admit it was shown to me by a keen guy a third of my age , but he didn't know it's name either :-\ :icon_e_biggrin:
  18. G'day, Samsson,Good to catch up with you at Lord blackbilly's Silver Perch"Fish In"Luv this knot for braid to fluro carbon, don't know if it has a name. Here goes, make a straight loop in both your braid and your flurocarbon and offer both loop ends together with more length on the braidas this is what forms the knot.Bring the braid loop UP the fluro loop, wind the braid 6 times up then 6 times down the fluro and then feed DOWN the formed fluro loop.Wet the knot with saliva and draw as tightly as possible tugging all ends and trimming as close as possible with a craft knife blade.Got no idea if

    fly leader

Hey Nick,After a lifetime of using differing line strengths in mono, I've finally been dragged into using the hard fluro carbon tapered leaders with very mixed feelings. :-\ :-\My first leader which cost $12 for a near 3 metre length was OK for a single sunk fly where presentation is not too important. However if I needed to tie a couple of dropper knots along it it wasn't so good due to the gradual taper not being as good for looks or knotting. My next leader was for Dry Fly and I tried two different brands with the butt ends (thick end)being so stiff as to not roll out straight while presen
  21. Just a thought guys, I wonder if it would be an idea to try and work in harmony with the "Tiser" and at the very least get the facts straight for any future articles they might wish to report on. :-\I think this could be very easily achieved by having a S&H phone contact number made available for them and then the mod team could cover all the issues, give them the facts as we see them and achieve a good result all around.Another thought I had was, could we make this entire post available to them for their perusal to see the depth of passion and feeling that we all have for our sport and al

  23. Hate to be picky catchnun, but copyright is owned by every person who publishes anything and permission normally must be sought to reproduce an authors work or liability can be legally enforced.Even more so because the newspaper is a commercial venture operating for gain. So, yes, I think our moderators have once again done us proud. Sorry to be so heavy, but I've been down this same road myself and it's not pretty.Cheers, tonyb.
  24. I'd wonder how they accessed the pics in the first place :-\Surely, only signed up forum members can access this info anyway.C'mon Guys, who's the "MOLE".
