1. Hi Reeve,I've always known them as periwinkles. My grandpa used to crush them up and use them as whiting burley. He even had a mincer just for the job!Pretty sure he used to eat them too. Possibly by boiling them and I think I remember him picking the flesh out with a pin? I don't ever recall any bag/size limit but that was a long time ago. Dan C

2. Hi all,I was wondering if tidal movement is the same through the whole water column? I'd guess it flows quicker near the top but maybe not? Would it also depend on the depth? I guess bottom/structure/land would also have an effect?Just curious!Cheers,Dan C

3. Yes I have heard that the slime is the remedy . However I have never been unfortunate enough to find out if it works!I regularly wade the Northern Sand flats for flathead and soon found out.Always use a landing net and a pair of lip grippers. If you use your hands' date=' and this was only a 48cm fish that I thought I could easily handle, then this is what happens with their raspy teeth. Cheers, Des

With some of the lizards you catch Des you're lucky you haven't lost an arm! :)
4. Hi all,At risk of sounding like a wanker, I think the spikes have an anti-coagulate on them. This means it stops your blood from clotting and you bleed for ages. I reckon I also read or heard the slime from the flathead helps stop the bleeding? Go figure, problem and solution all in one. Lucky they're so bloody delicious!Dan C

5. Doesn't look right to me' date='probably incompetance trying to tail rope it and it got away and tangled itself on the bouy or divers because you couldn't lift the bouy to tie it there from a boat. cheers brenton[/quote']Sounds plausible Brenton. Lets hope you're right!Cheers
6. These are landbased locations. There is a spot past the windfarms and near the lighthouse that we found is awesome for salmon. Not sure of the name of it' date=' but I think it is called Suicide Point????About a half hour drive on the dirt road round the peninsular you will find a beach that you can scope from the cliff tops. There is a set of wooden stairs leading down to the beach. You can clearly see the salmon schools from up on the cliffs.Nearby to there are some rock ledges that are great fishing, take extreme care when climbing out on the rocks. We have landed small snapper and occasional squid. The Edithburgh town jetty is good for squid and tommies, just be aware that SCUBA divers frequent this jetty at times. Say hello to them and they may share all the snagged lures they find down under the jetty.Check out the local tackle store in Edithburgh, a really top bloke who will be more than happy to give you directions and to tell you what's biting where.Good luck, and I hope this helps.Steve[/quote']Hi Tinker, If its the big reddish lighthouse i think its Troubridge Point. Beautiful coastline!Cheers,Dan C
7. Hey guys' date=' just after some advice on soft plastics. I have been using them for quite a few months now and am yet to yield anything. Starting to think that my technique is wrong. Usually just cast it out with slow retrieve, though have tried flicking the lure every now and then. Mostly after some reds. Is my technique wrong or will persistence pay off?Cheers, S121.[/quote']Without being a smart :c ...are you fishing them when the reds are definitely around? I've only ever really caught them when I know they're on the chew as they're taking baits as well. When they're in the mood it doesn't seem to matter what you chuck down as long as it gets in their strike zone! I guess it's a lot harder when they're a bit more tentative!Dan C
8. Also' date=' the slipway has been locked for years now. No fishing there anymore which sucks because it was an absolutely top spot. :(However, just down the road is Snooks Landing where I caught my PB KGW at 63cm many years ago.The top jetty in this pic is the Caravan Park which I believe is still available to be fished:

Oh no! Sorry, didn't realize the slip was closed. You're right, that does suck!
9. Don't forget the slipway around the corner towards the marina. Always good for some squid.
Is that the slipway marked government slipway on that map?Nanman' date='On the map it is markerd kurton jetty and there are no other jetties to the right of it. On google earth and other satelite maps' date=' it does look like there is a gate prohibiting people. Looks a really good jetty though[/quote'']Yes the government slipway. Good luck!
