  1. I use Mustad Demons which seem to work pretty well.
  2. Ahhh good old Kirton Point Jetty...as a kid I used to catch squid off that jetty before school! The first half was always open, the end only sometimes. Now I understand the whole jetty is closed?Don't forget the slipway around the corner towards the marina. Always good for some squid. Dan C
  3. Hi all,This may not be news to a lot of you but I picked up a free magazine called "Tackle Junkie" from my local marine shop today. Has heaps of tackle reviews etc. Turns out its also available online http://www.tacklejunkie.com.au/Enjoy!Dan C
  4. I've got that dark green on my snapper combo and its a pain! Especially as the sun goes down...
  5. I like that idea. I think I'll try it.Me too! Cheers TT!
  6. Hi all,I generally use circle hooks when fishing for whiting and squid strips or cockles for bait.My question is does anyone ever have trouble losing cockles on circle hooks? When the fish are smaller or picky maybe? I know with squid they suck them and end up with a hook in their mouthes but with cockles seem to suck them straight off? Maybe I should use normal hooks when the whiting are like this so I can strike? When they're aggressive and striking hard it doesn't seem so bad.Any thoughts appreciated. Have a heap of cockles in the freezer from a recent weekend in Middleton but don't really
  7. Hi all,Launched from North Haven around 7:00am this morning. Headed north of the channel. The wind was ok with the tide running out. Once the tide got going the gar were on. I had to be back at the ramp by 10 so we fished until we could. Ended up with 55. Yum!Dan C
  8. Couldn't get out in the boat as planned Saturday so took my 2 boys for a paddle in the kayak. Launched at Dotteral Drive and paddled down to the beach at Corcoran Drive. Bream everywhere. We could see them as we paddled into the beach. Not game to fish out of the kayak with a 2 and 4 year old on board yet so we fished off the beach! Casting unweighted bloodworms it was on. Bream everywhere. Two rods going at once most of the time and two very excited boys. (well 3 really )Didn't get any fish photos...too busy but managed one of the boys on the lake.Cheers,Dan C
  9. Hi,Can anyone clarify how state boundaries work in the water? Also, I know there are international waters (200 nautical miles offshore I think?), but are there state and then national waters? If so, is there a chance the trawler could fish national waters but not state waters? Am I making any sense? Cheers,Dan C

    KGW.

Hey Grego,I caught one on a bloodworm in westlakes a couple of weeks ago! Had quite a few bites but no more hookups. I was in the yak in front of the new playground on Corcoran drive in the middle of the lake.Dan C
  11. Done. Good luck with your project Troy.
  12. Hi all,I vaguely remember reading on here once that you can get measures sent to you in the mail? Is this true? If so does anyone know who to contact? Looks like we've booked a house in Goolwa for a weekend in November. Cheers,Dan C
  13. You're probably right! Good advice.
  14. Sorry, don't want to be sued for defamation!! Went in for some swivels and leader, left feeling like I'd been at the front bar of my local...getting drawn into arguments and having to defend myself! Don't even know how it started but doesn't seem like the way I'd conduct a business! Couldn't leave quick enough...
  15. Hi all,I know I need to be careful with what I say and how I say it but, has anyone ever had any "interesting" experiences in one of the tackle shops in the Port Adelaide region? Or is it just me? Dan C
  16. Hi all,I generally fish northern metro launching from north haven. When the fish are quiet we can usually count on some squid by drifting somewhere between Semmy reef and North Haven. I tried this a couple of weeks ago on a very clear morning and not a sniff! So I'm wondering if squid are seasonal/migratory? I caught a couple the week before but even they were pretty small. Do squid prefer warmer water maybe? With ave tides on the weekend I was thinking of heading out for some squid but I'm not sure if I should bother!Cheers,Dan C
  17. I mean no offense here but aren't we all lucky to be having a debate about recreational fishing in an open and respectful way, from the comfort of our cosy lounge rooms...I wonder what the rest of the world is up to? http://www.abc.net.au/news/world/Dan C
  18. Sharks must be a topic on everyone's lips over your way Sea Raider. Sorry to read about another attack.
  19. Hi all,With the KGs shutting down for the blood worms I was wondering about gar in winter. I've heard they can be around and was wondering, do you fish them the same as in summer? Same areas? Same depth? I launch from North Haven. Any advice would be great.ThanksDan C
  20. Hi everyone,I was just reading some posts re last years bloodworm run. The new moons were early July and August. This year they are around the 20th. My question is, would the one in June(20th) be too early? This seems closer to early July than the 19th of July but I don't know what actually triggers it. Would the 20th July and August be getting too late?I'm pretty keen to get amongst it this year and also target KGs leading up to it as they tend to go a bit nuts beforehand!Cheers,Dan C
  21. Hi all,I'm sure this sort of question has been asked before but I was wondering about snapper migration etc. My understanding is that things generally heat up towards spawning in summer as they migrate up and down the gulf then quieten down during the cooler months. The ones that are still around, are they anomalies? Lost souls? Or are there as many "resident" Sapper off the metro coast than those that migrate? Or have there always been heaps around all year long but now forums like this give guys like Branzino the opportunity to make the rest of us feel inadequate?Interested to hear some tho
  22. Hi,The two safest spots I know are:Dotteral Drive West Lakes. Beach and a rocky outcrop at one end. Always heaps of little Bream.Corcoran Drive West Lakes. Near the footbridge. Again there is beach and rocks and Bream. When my oldest son started getting into it we started here as there is no way of falling in. Jetties scare the crap out of me with little kids!Today I took both boys to the souther corner of West Lakes. My youngest son (2), wound in 2 Bream and has the bug too now!Dan C
