Thanks guys, i tend to go for the same setup, slowly realizing i need to get more into the different hooks and bait, my reel didn't really perform tonight either only getting out 30 - 40 metres, how far out do you have to cast to catch anything decent? Im going again this week with size 6 hooks and maybe a wire trace, o well hopefully this chat leads to some good fishing lolThanks for the tipsJusto

Fellas, nice weather hey, i cruised down the esplanade here in aldinga just to have a look, waves were nasty wind was blowing hard, i enjoy fishing in the rain if there's no wind but wind takes the fun out of it, i wonder how the wind affects casting out with a 14 footer, but with my poxy fish at me feet rod, it sucks. I always found out in the boat after a good storm fishing was at it best, im planning tomorrows fish of sellicks, willy weather says wind should be dropping by morning so could be a good catch

Head to a popular squidding jetty (port noarlunga, brighton, glenelg) and watch the locals. An afternoon spent watching the old salts in action will teach you more than any book or internet forum. The various techniques are to cast and retrieve a squid jig or put a prawn jig or a wire jag with a tommie on it under a float. Many locals also use a tommie teaser to attract them in.Often local knowledge and location is very important as it is no good being where the squid are not.Off glenelg, the best spot is the end light fishing to the south. Off brighton the north west weed bed off the end is best and off Porties, about halfway along and casting to the north is good. Look for squid ink marks on the jetty as till will give a clue to the local hotspot.

Finely caught something decent, couple of whiting should go nice with fresh veggies from the garden, hopefully more to come tomorrow.

Hey champ, good question, i always think of that when buying bait and tackle, why is this one cheaper, im new to beach fishing but not new to fishing, the last few years ive gone from cockles to pilchards to squid to mullet mix. i found with the pilchards and squid that cheaper ones were crap and old looking, be good to hear what others thnk
