  1. It has a "sea knight deluxe" sticker on it can't find any info on that one. The egg beater it came with is definitely old, not an abu thats for sure. I don't know much about surf rods so no idea what rating it feels like but i know butterworth is/were really good so I grabbed it.
  2. Certainly looks the same sticker. Google hasn't been overly productive with this information though 😦 Pity I can't find anything else about this rod like its rating etc. Oh well I'm sure something will turn up eventually. Cheers
  3. Picked up this surf rod at a garage sale today and noticed that it said it was made for Len Butterworth. It also has a "sea knight deluxe" sticker on it. But thats all. Im not after anything special just wanted something to use for the smaller stuff. Cheers for any help
  4. Am looking at getting 2 surf rods, one for bigger species and one for smaller species. Am wanting to target snapper/gummies with the heavier rod and the lighter one for flathead, salmon etc. I also want both to be egg beater reels. I'm not confident using alvey reels and I don't like casting overheads (bird nest king). while practice makes perfect I need more practicality for now while I'm time poor. Also looking in the lower price bracket. I'd love a daiwa or shimano or custom rod but for now the money isn't there. New or second hand doesn't bother me either. As always,Cheers in advance
  5. wasnt too close to check it out, just picked the yellow n white combo
  6. righto didnt think i recognised the boat in ur pic/avatar thing. that said were you over this weekend? saw one similar that had just been pulled out of the water
  7. jmills,ur living in ardrossan for about 12 months or so, if you dont mind me asking what r you doing here i might know someone ur working with.bigred,r u an ardrossan resident or a regular visitor?
  8. once again what do you want to catch and where from, salmon from the surf requires a different setup to squid from a boat to sharks from a jetty and so on and so on. also if you are just starting out dont go spending heaps on your rods n reels, get the feel for what you are doing and when you have a much better of what you are doing upgrade then and notice the difference. go to a good tackle store (not big W/kmart etc) but try the directory at the top of the page and then click on bait and tackle and one of the stores there will be able to point you in the right direction give them your budget
  9. as above, plus dont forget all the puffer fish/toadies they r everywhere
  10. i have that exact rod and i love it. i'm not sure what the reel is but its a 1000 shimano thing that compleat angler at wallaroo had in a bargain bit cost me $20 that i put 6lb spiderwire(i think thats what it was) on. the rod was a gift from a mate so all up it cost me next to nothing but i love the thing
  11. i had a quick search on the net and saw a youtube video about how to spool line (i usually do it the wrong way and after a few huge casts the line twist sorts itself out well enough to keep using, but braid will be different so i need to learn how to do it properly) here is the link this the recommended way or is there a better way? i will also have to do it myself so any tips on that will also be handy, cheers
  12. hi i just got myself a nice new rod that came with some rovex braid. i havent used braid before so i'm after a bit of advice. first of all are there any tips to spooling it onto the reel? other than that is there anything else i need to know?cheers in advancedamo.
  13. a surf rod will be a bit too big for the jetty something around 7 foot would be manageable. and then decide on what your target will be. for yellowfin whiting a 2kg rod with a light tip they can be hard to feel biting. this rod can be used for garfish tommies snook bream salmon trout etc any quality table fish. then there is the humble squid that (i dont live in adelaide but someone can correct me if im wrong) can be caught from any jetty where there is some weed will need a handline or slightly heavier rod so it doesnt snap with the dead weight feel of a squid. some jetties can produce snappe
  14. reminds me of when my son reeled in his first yellowfinwe were staying in the pt vincent caravan park with my 2yo son and 6 month old daughter (keen? you betchya) and my son wanted to stay with me while i went fishing while mum took bubs back for a sleep. anyway i hadnt hooked up yet but my son asked to "go fishing" which meant he wanted to wind in. no probs, so as he was running over i hooked up so he had to wind in a nice 35cm yellowfin whiting on his own (i held the rod just to make sure it stayed on dry land) he was absolutely pumped grin from ear to ear. he pulled in 2 more like that befo
  15. those "mercedes" engines in the ssangyongs arent made by mercedes but licenced so all it means is they supplied the plans, the rest was left to ssangyong. and no they arent mechanic friendly. but still a lot cheaper than engine out to change spark plugs on a porshe, a certain former owner of a big dealership in adelaide found that out the hard way
  16. i would have agreed on the "ask what you think of this and you'll only get a list of problems" comment earlier but my computer wasnt being helpful. i have worked on a whole heap of different makes of vehicles in the few years i worked as a mechanic, and none of them were without their own issues, there isnt a model of any vehicle on the road that doesnt have its own consistent problems. and from what i've seen there are a lot of vehicles that have more issues that are more frequent that i would avoid and stick with those that have a reputation for quality, not to say the good reputation is a g
  17. i had a 91 falcon ute on gas and for it to be cheaper than petrol to run the cost of gas had to be less than half the cost of petrol (if petrol was 100/litre gas needed to be 50/litre or less). even at half the cost it was better to run on petrol as is lubricates the intake system (i use intake loosely, as there a a few components that it does) just running gas, even if engine was built for it, it dries out gaskets causing premature failure. i had that ute for 5 years and i loved it to bits but i hated the gas and i still hate gas, it is for bbq's and hot water services. running gas on a moder
  18. hey skudded, not trying to talk ur jack down, just saying all the issues i had seen (and yes most were oil related coz of the injector set up - uses oil pressure for pressure in the injectors which requires a thinner oil) but also saw 2 turbos snap in half, and after tappets are done correctly the seals around the injectors leak, no mechanic in oz has yet to fit them back in without this issue, great from factory but until that job is done at 100-150k (cant remember been 6 years since i was in a holden dealer, well since i gave up the spanners for double the income). all the holden guys think
  19. please dont buy a jackaroo, no offence skudded but i have worked in 2 holden dealers and they shudder when they come through the door, they are money pits and you will regret them, same goes for ford explorer/exploder
  20. turns out it did come today, got dropped off at the inlaws shop as a parcel instead of my letterbox
  21. yep and as usual gotta wait for it to come in the mail.... i know why its always later, but still it frustrates ya when its in the shops but not my letterbox now i gotta wait till next week. hmmm perhaps auts post should go to a 7 day week for deliveries
  22. as has been said, petrol 4wd will cost you in fuel costs, lpg while "cheaper to run" usually has about double the usage of petrol on older models kinda better on new vehicles so cost per litre would need to be below half that of petrol to be cheaper to run and even then not much cheaper, that was my finding when i had a dual fuel falcon ute doing 160km+ every day for work, my diesel hilux is considerably cheaper to run. and remember the bigger the vehicle the thirstier it will be same goes for the older the thirstier, once again why my little lux would be a great keeper if we would all fit in
  23. ok no option for editingi forgot to add its done 330000km only 15000km done since i bought it 2 years ago
