  1. On the topic of the Ugly Stik model, I was definitely looking at the Platinum range. I remember seeing the Gold model too. Would this mean anything? What's the difference between the Gold and Platinum?
  2. What price range am I looking at for the ones that are of better quality?
  3. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what model the Ugly Stiks were because I was only checking the rating for the rods. Just wondering how this brand fairs overall since you are given a lifetime warranty if you do buy one, which sounds rather good to me. :pI plan to use the 24kg to nab myself a ray but I'll need to put that rod aside and save up for a decent OH reel (doesn't have to be some retardedly expensive reel) which would handle either a small shark or a ray. I'm guessing 50lb's the go?
  4. I'm heading to Compleat Anglers for the Christmas sale to get my hands on this beautiful looking reel.http://daiwafishing.com.au/?p=3538Planning to get a 4000 model which has a drag rating of 6kg. Would it be suitable to pair this reel with an Ugly Stik rod that's rated 6-10kg? Reason I'm thinking of getting an Ugly Stik is because it's on sale at TackleWorld now. 20% off all their Ugly Stik rods and from memory, after discount, I can get a medium 6-10kg rod for around $85.Not sure if this combo'll be suitable for livebaiting for mulloways or even for use as a snapper rod though. Reckon I can
  5. Their vocab can be rather limited...
  6. shark fisho or burley trail in sight...
  7. Looks like it struck some poor bloke's rod at the end of a jetty? I know it is not a jetty but the lamp posts made it seem like one. Lol...
  8. I came back with my 600 limit. Thanks to this group of other cockle collectors who had one full bucket too many! LOL!!! He gave me everything so instead of spending my time in Goolwa collecting cockles, I spent most of my time there sorting through 500 odd cockles to get the limit. I was there with my girlfriend. There were a few undersized ones but not many. When I was out there collecting the first 50 odd, I had no trouble finding them. Just go to the edge of the water and slowly dig away. You'll easily find 20+ from one spot as a minimum. By 20+ I mean those which are definitely legal just
  9. Well, the wind isn't that much stronger this weekend compared to the others but there's still rain forecasted this Saturday. Ocean might be rougher than the other weekends. It'll depend on how heavy the rain gets tomorrow, I reckon.
  10. I just checked out SamN's video and saw the one where he caught a man. LOL!! That's funny as. The bloke's extremely lucky you were there. Nice trout sesh too. I recognise one spot.
  11. LOL! I've actually seen these geoducks. Had no idea what they were and most certainly didn't have the balls to try them. DIdn't know they were considered clams.... Interesting...
  12. Time to start this topic up again. How long do cockles stay alive for? Would you recommend an aerator if it's a 1.5 hour drive from my place to goolwa? Will be going there tomorrow. Would prefer to have all the cockles alive for purging when I get home. Let's see how my beginner's luck is...
  13. By fishing somewhere else, it's to avoid confrontation. After a news release like that, you're bound to have a lot of anti-sharko vigilante idiots out there. Don't put yourself and your $1000++ equipment in danger. You can put forth your point of views without purposely heading to a location knowing you'll get yourself into a fight. At the end of the day, if you land a punch on some idiot who touches your rod, you'll make yourself look worse thanks to the media. Also, the more likely charge will be for assault rather than tampering with another person's fishing equipment illegally seeing that
  14. Made a reply on this other topic but since this topic is re-opened, I'd post my comment here:Only a matter of time I suppose before the mayor did this. Wasn't surprising. Unfortunate incident though. Best to avoid this jetty and fish somewhere else with less publicity. Seems like they're trying to get shark fishing banned on other jetties. Being aggressive wouldn't help the sharkos' cause now. Best to suck it in and move on, let things simmer down. Most important of all, no more shark pictures in the papers. Henley and Grange seem to be next....On a side note, I have seen some rather aggressiv
  15. Actually, TP did offer to move his rod out of the way initially. He was asked to reel the line in instead. He later decided not to move his rod at all after the altercation with the old dude. This is what I got from reading TP's post.
  16. Now we know the true story and how ridiculous some old farts can be. HIS jetty?? LOL! I'm sure he paid for the maintenance, built it from scratch, etc, etc. I bet all he ever did was dirty the jetty with squid ink, some of his left over rubbish and gave the rail a few notches for his rod to sit in. Anyway, you got charged with assault. Does this mean you have to attend a court hearing or something?
  17. Nice work, moggy. Do you work from home? I don't know of many people who own their own lathes.
  18. On the topic of purging the cockles, there is a thread here about purging them. Either google it or use the search button. I find that google works the best. I was reading up on that. Time to find myself an onion bag. Heh...
  19. I'd say that a solution that'll appease both sides would be to elongate the jetty. An 800m extension of a jetty sounds nice right about now. Unfortunately, that'll cost too much and of course, the depth of the ocean is most probably going to affect the cost even further. The govt. or council (whoever) would rather ban fishing completely because that's the cheapest option. I mean, how good would it be to have a metro jetty that extends up to 1km? Sharkos can fish at the deep end, crabbers can be in the middle and the fishos can be at the shallow end. Well, most people will still crowd the end o
  20. You've been extremely helpful, nikhum. That information is something that I have been trying to find.
  21. I'll be land based. I'm not sure what the appropriate length is but 2.4m is just a guess.
  22. Oh wow... Now I feel like a complete douche. There's a thread just like this around 4 threads down.... I can't believe I missed it. I'm going to check that out. Thanks for your help, Southie.
  23. That definitely sounds reasonable. My Silstar power tip rod was 115 from memory...I take it for the reel you'd definitely stick with the rarenium? I'll have to visit the shops to test the reel out. So 4000 series reels would be the reels I'm looking at for the species I'm after? Would you use a 20lb or 30lb line? Or maybe even a 15lb line just for the challenge? I've got a power pro 15lb braided line sitting around right now.
