  1. Well done, mate. That's bigger than any fish I've caught off the jetty and a very nice rod to have for a first rod. I remember the KMart rod I got for my first ever fishing trip. Still caught some massive carps though.
  2. BRAID! You can have so much more braid on your spool.
  3. Nooooooooooooooooo!!! You're meant to release it! Not kill it!Nah... I'd eat it. Very well done to the 2 guys. Love the youtube heroes. LOL!
  4. Damnit.... I don't even like eating squid but I just need to have this killer jig.... LOL!
  5. Heh... Figures. R&A's have something against Shimano themselves too. Never can I shop there without having someone there tell me how bad Shimano is and how much better Daiwa is.
  6. I'd like it opened but only to anglers paying a fee for jetty maintenance and to minimise vandalism on the jetty. On top of that, having restrictions with stricter bag and size limits will be on the list as well. Being able to employ a security guard there full time to police these controls will make it a jetty for many to enjoy for years to come. Basically, we'd want to protect this area because we all know what'd happen the moment it's open to public. Even if it's just to boats after they demolish the jetty! A controlled and sensible fishery like our fishing clubs will be ideal for such a lo
  7. Unlucky, mate. Hopefully he'll go back to the same spot and maybe bump into you again.
  8. Just want to be careful with what you post here on the website especially if you make a mistake like that. Ignorance isn't a good defence if caught and you really don't want to advertise this any further. My advice is if you made a mistake like this, to learn from it and don't post it on the web. Anyone can see what you post on the web.
  9. I was hoping to read a two page report from a person who has a biological background but the ones doing most of the writing are the ones claimed to be simpletons... This is despite Ranger's invitation... OH well, I'm a psychologist and I refuse to bog you down with a 5 page report on my understanding of this matter. I'll just say that you're stubborn.
  10. Fair enough. Well, here's to hoping you catch a yellowfin bream in West Lakes (it doesn't have to be a 60cm one), post its picture here and prove the doubters wrong. I can't say for sure that you've caught one or you haven't. Neither can anyone else without seeing the fish to assist you with the fish identification. Either way, you caught a decent sized fish and lost it just as you were about to land it which is unfortunate.
  11. Just found the picture of a juvenile mully. Bright silver and yellow fin definitely fits the description.http://www.hooklinesinker.tv/classiccatch/juvenile-school-mulloway-ardrossan-sa/I'm more inclined to believe that it's a mully because personally, I'd confuse mullies and breams (the smaller ones that is). They do look quite similar. There have been reports of decent numbers of schoolies at West Lakes as well.
  12. Thought mullies were bright silver.
  13. Nicely done on the cockles. We know how much you love your cockles. I tried purging them in seawater but I probably had too many in one bag. I followed your advice in the old cockle thread. I've given up on cooking cockles though. Too lazy. I did follow your recipe and the few cockles without sand tasted good.
  14. The 1-3kg would be more flexible than the 2-4kg. Very whippy. I have a couple of 1-3kg rods. Love them!
  15. I got a Berkley dropshot from BCF for $60 when they had this crazy sale going on (UNfortunately, it is $119 now) and paired it with a Shimano Aernos 1000.
  16. I've 3 reels spooled with Sunline Super PE and they are definitely smooth as described. It seems that the only upgrade from Sunline is Daiwa.... HAHA! Thanks again for the input, guys.
  17. Planning a trip to Port Lincoln and from what I heard, it can be quite rough. Thanks for the tip, Banga.
  18. I've got power pro sitting around so I'm thinking of probably upgrading and going a higher end braid. I'm guessing the only upgrades would be Sunline PE and the Daiwa ranges... Thanks for the inputs, guys. I'll probably get a 20lb daiwa braid and would 40lb fluoro leader be too heavy?
  19. Trying to go after salmon. Budget-wise, I can go pretty high thanks to my birthday and christmas gift. thanks for the replies, southie and Softy. Didn't know about the bulk spool. What's the quality like?
  20. Hi guys,I've got a shimano rarenium 4000 and I am planning to use it for lure casting on the beach. What pound braid would you recommend and how much of a spool would go on the 4000 for that recommended line strength? Looking at a few braids out there at the moment but it's quite hard to come to a decision on which to buy having done very little fishing off the beach.Cheers.
  21. The last time I had a walk along West Lakes, the breams swam up to me at this one spot awaiting eagerly a feed. HAHA! They were around 20-25cm. No small ones. All mediums. I was so tempted to drop a line in with such tame breams around but I felt sorry for these fish which are obviously pets... HAHA! Always nice to see fish swimming in their natural environment.
