Thanks for all the replies folks.
What about the depth of Barkers Inlet @ low tide ?
-
Hi ya all.
Am new to boat fishing & boating in general, I'm keen to do some hardy body / plastics fishing in the Port River / Barkers Inlet for Bream or Salmon Trout.
Was just wondering if I had to be very mindful of tides in Barkers Inlet (ie. can it only be fished around high tide, don't want to get stuck high & dry) ? I'm guessing the mangroves are a high tide only prospect.
Also which is the better ramp Garden Island or Largs Marina ? I'm guessing Largs, what about car security too ?
Any help would appreciated. Thanks.

yea righteo' date=' thats a better website than i read AF, although along the same lines. so line diameter not breaking strain, not sure i like rod builders using that to rate their rods though, if the rod is suited to 30-50lb then say it, not this PE shit. what if i put PE5 on there that doesnt breaks at 86lb, like the line in the story, and my rod snaps because it is only rated to 50lb, does that mean they will replace the rod because i used the line they recommended? just seems to be a bit silly to me, rate the rod to its breaking strain not line diameter. you guys reckon or what?[/quote']I concur totally.

In the latest edition of SA Angler, Shane Mensforrth mentions the North Haven Basin three times in his editorial. From memory it's pretty clear he's talking about the Marina.

So probably not ideal for soaking baits with a Penn 850 Spinnfisher V (when they're released) ?Probably better off with a Snyderglass or the likesI guess.Cheers.

Has anyone used one of these rods ? Or have an opinion on them ?Am thinking about getting a new surf rod.On a side note do all MT8144 rods have the samecast weight ? Or do they vary with different brands/ makes ?Lots of questions I know.Cheers.

Hi ya all,First post for me. Been reading the forums and searching the web but can't find the answersso I thought I better ask the experts.I've got an older Silstar Power Tip model # PT601SWH with no line class written on it other than action MH with 8 guides. So I was wondering what would be a suitable line class ?Would this be for an overhead or spinning reel or both ?Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Had a crack for a couple of hours this morning.
Went for a bit of a look around, launched @ Largs Marina (thought they'd have wash down facilities, wrong).
Just pulled up in a random spot near the Speed Boat Club. Burleyed up & was getting hits straight away. Switched to smaller lures (Duo Tetra Works Bivi) & caught 1/2doz. Salmon Trout, couple of undersize gar & whiting. (all on the Duo which was a first for me).
Then took the paint off the bottom of the motor on the way in, in the mud.
Was a beautiful day out.
