  1. Depends on $$$ you want to spend and how often you are wanting to go sp fishing. The more you spend the more you need to justify using the reel and the better you need to keep your reel, washing it everytime you use it.For me $0-50 i would go a shimano sienna or cazna, both nice little reels i have both and both are almost identical in performance and specs.$50-100 shimano sedona - i have two of these reels and they are great, 7kg of drag in a 2500 reel is practically a snapper reel.$100-150 - Shimano symetre - as Damo said, this is probably the best value for money reel, ultra smooth reel. I have a 2500 size which i use for kg whiting and rugger snapper,$150-200 - Shimano Saros - good snapper reelMore then $200 you get into the good stuff, stradic fj, stradic ci4+, Sustain,,,,,Yes i am a shimano fan, but i also have a few daiwa reels, Aird, Opus Bull, catalina. My pick..... sedona or symetre

  2. Hit up the master "DEL" he is the Yellowfin whiting whisperer. The YFW head to warmer waters in the winter. They are always available Port Gawler and further north. Live tubeworms, live clickers and bloodworms are best baits. Lighter line the better, flurocarbon leaders and lightest sinkers you can get away with. Prepare to wade and walk a bit if you are hitting the sand flats up north. The schools will be small when the weather is at its coldest. The warmer the weather the bigger the school.

  3. Well I went into BCF with good with good intentions. I was looking at the Sedona 4000' date=' and the guy came over and asked what I.was looking for. He recommend the Sedona, a daiwa, and the Goth all around the $99 mark. But then he said if want something a bit better quality then they had a good deal... Anyway I got talked into a Plfuger Salt combo. I ended up with a $160 Plfeuger Salt reel and a 7ft 8kg 1 piece Salt rod combo altogether for $129. So I basically got a free rod. And oh yeah, its spooled with 20lb BraidThoughts? Did I end up with a decent set up?[/quote']You spoke with the older guy with short blonde hair.... he is always plugging those salts. I hear they are good reels from other sources. And for $129 you cant go wrong.
  4. +2 for Pauly, 20lb line on a 4000 reel is maximum you should fish. 20lb will get the job done with any skilled angler. unless you are fishing in 100 meters of water with reefs and other obstacles that wear away on your braid. Also allows you to put 200+ meters of line on the reel and 'play' with the fish more than skull drag it in.

  5. BCF Have these .... will stop a Snapper...Shimano Sedona Spin Reel - 4000FD $99.99

This is the reel you want. Big drag, more than other 4000 size reels. 9kg drag. I have the 2500 size reel and is more than capable of landing big fish.Ray and annes have them for $89.00. BCF occasionally have them in combos for $99.00
  6. Easily confused there mate, They do look similar, just be careful you dont keep any less then the 21cm size limit. IMO you probably should keep Tommies less than that anyway, no point, no meat and if you are using them as squid bait they are also too small.Good catch though

  7. Stinger i dont think anyone has ever counted but there are a shit loads. Enough for a couple of fishing sessions. Put 3 to 4 on the hook. Depending on what you are targetting what size hook. Garfish probably 9 or 10 even up to size 12 hooks. If you are going for mullet then size 8 will be fine.

  8. Daiwa TDT from BCF, they are varying lengths. I used a 7 foot 4-8kg rod to bottom bash on the recent charter for grouper, nannygai, huge sweep then used it for trolling for tuna It is now my rod for flick lures for salmon off the beach at waitpinga - not expensive either. They are usually a one piece, load them up in the store and you will be surprised I have the 4 to 8kg.... its an IM7 graphite

  9. Hey guys, after my first tuna charter i'm already planning a trip in winter for the big sambos and are looking for an outfit that will handle the bigger boys.I've got my eye on the Okuma Salina 16000 reels and the Okuma Salina PE8 rods, spooled with 80lb braid. Anyone out there had any experience with these rods and reels? At $358 for the combo at Ray and Anne's it seems a steal compared to other big fish combos.
