  1. is it a good idea to use a dropper loop to attach a pre-snelled hook for the first hook and an overhand loop to attach the bottom pre-snelled hook? I find it can create tangles and maybe isn't as natural as a hook snelled directly onto the end of the line? but if the fish swallows the hook and you have to cut the line then you've shortened the rig and you have to resnell a hook while fish might be on the bite. I use pre-snelled hooks and loops because it's so dam hard to snell a hook.
  2. I recently read that a long 'whippy' rod is what you need for Gar as it can handle the float well and cast it out to where the gar are. So anyone have any recommendation for a rod before I go out and buy one? I don't want to rely fully on the advice on the clerk as he may be influenced to sell surplus or old stock. This is for land based fishing and don't mind spending a bit for a good quality rod.
  3. wondering if any of these are good for snook or flathead? Rapala X-Rap XR04 Glass Ghost Rapala Countdown CD01 (or CD03) Brook Trout Halco Laser Pro 45 1M Mullet Unfortunately they are small due to larger ones not being available and the good colours are never available either. Are they too small, should I replace the trebles with larger ones?
  4. thanks heaps, I'll keep trying. almost seems the same as the technique for a squid jag, except you keep it near the surface instead of near the bottom. is that right?
  5. how do you use the squidgy flick baits? I've tried a few times going for snook but with no success. have no idea if I'm doing it right or night as I don't really have any experience with soft plastics.
  6. spear fishing them on the flats sounds like fun, have to get a spear and try that one day. in the mean time what sort of rigs do you use for Flounder in W/Lakes?
  7. update (couldn't edit old posts). not much progress since I made this, however I didn't count trips where I fished with a mate and we combined our catch, due to not knowing who caught what. 9. where are flounders found? I've never seen this fish before ever but have been wanting to try for a long time. after some land based areas where they are know to reside either metro or down south preferably
  10. i'v always had good luck with Slimies at Rapid Bay using prawns bought from the Delaware shop on paternoster rig. Usually they start biting at night time and usually in bad weather. Having said that it's been a few years since I last fished for them, mainly due to the distance of Rapid. great fish though and quite tasty too, I should go fishing for them again
  11. crusher can i please have the location of the camp site? free camping areas are like hens teeth in SA/Adelaide...
  12. first post got :c, was meant to say $bloody# didn't realise it's a swear word, lol.i'm still confused how to tell between beach, blood and tube worms. how do I know which one to use the manual method on, the ones which don't live in tubes correct? does the manual method work when they live in the tubes or do I use the pump on the tubes? I reckon i've tried pumping out the tubes and it didn't really work. also I don't care which type of worm as they all seem to work really well as bait I'd be happy with any type of worm. i've tried looking in piles of seaweed for seaweed worms but never seen an
  13. after quite a while trying locate worms I've found me a good spot. I used the ole stinkbag method and seen them poke their heads out of their tubes. I put a tentacle near to them to entice them out and grab onto it. the problem is after they grab it and I try to put my other hand in the sand they immediately let go and retreat. it seems like its impossible to be quicker than the worm. what am I doing wrong on youtube videos it looks so easy they just pull the worm out without any trouble. but on the videos they somehow pull them up without the tube. so do I even have the right worms? they are
  14. thanks mate! I told this guy at work who is a KGW enthusiast and he didn't even beleive that I caught a legal one off a jetty!
  15. i live around the northern suburbs, oakden area. the other videos I saw were for double egg loop, i'll see if a double snell is easier to do. thanks for the video link

  19. ^^ whats that lure called?? ^^does anyone have names of any other lures that will work for snook?and how do you cast the soft plastics out far enough (from the jetty)? can you add a running bean sinker if its too light?
  20. 1. Rapid Bay - so diverse never know what you'll catch there - once I caught a saddletail seaperch there!2. Brighton - so productive for a metro jetty especially for squid!3. Semaphore - my usual yellowfin haunt, not as productive as grange but less people4. Grange - where I first started going for yfw, got my best results here.5. haven't really had any luck on a 5th jetty although I would choose Port Noarlunga, been there once and it looks awesome
