  1. After an enjoyable ( :d/ ) weekend Monday was looking a treat to get out there. Had a look at the tides and thought I'd be kind on everyone and launch from West Beach around 10am. Loaded up 'Bert' with the plan to have a bit of squid action around Marino and then to aim for some KG's off Somerton in the early arvo. The usual crew seemed to have had a too bigger weekend and piked it so I got the folks along and a mate that's been hassling me for a while. Apparently (but not surprisingly) every man and his mutt had the same idea as us with the carpark being completely packed and us ending up parking on the dirt block next door. After a few hours drifting for some squid we'd only managed to land one (albeit a beauty)! The water looked murky as so I think this may have played a part in it? So off to Somerton we went. A few spots later we'd only had a sniff of a red mullet and a few undersize KG's. Mum and Dad in their wisdom managed to get into the tangle of the century.... Then BANG, Mum's line got HIT when they were in the middle of sorting their sh!t out!! Being the head strong person she is she demanded she could pull it in by hand, which she did very successfully and landed a 50cm snap snap on a whiting trace!!! She was stolked. We were back at WB at 3:30pm to join the retrieving line-up at the ramp. All in all a great day out, not many fish, but enough for a feed that night!

  2. Went over to Yorkes for a few days with a mate. Tuesday we were raking for crabs at Ardrossan and managed 40 between us. Nice sized ones with plenty of meat. Stayed at the High View caravan park and was very impressed with their crab cooking facilities! Wednesday we dropped the boat in at Port Vincent and managed 10 KG's and 9 squid in a few hours. Unfortunately Thursday it blew so we went to the pub although in the morning a school of salmon came past the Vincent foreshore caravan park with saw guys bagging out off the spit. Came home with a feed which is always good!

  3. Get yourself a cast iron Japanese Hibachi grill' date='some charcoal(not heat beads),a decent cut of Porterhouse,Fillet or a nice T Bone and some salt and pepper.Dry marinate the steak by rubbing in a generous amount of salt and pepper on both sides and let it sit for an hour or two at room temperature. When the grill is nice and hot drop your steak on for 4 minutes.Turn for 4 minutes and it's ready. Some of my mates have got BBQs worth thousands of dollars and their steaks don't even come close. :) And don't get me started on Pizza ovens.[/quote']You're on the money!! I do mine very similar:-Rub with olive oil and lots of fresh ground pepper (no salt yet as I find it can dry the steak out)-Stand steak for 1hour minimum to get to room temp-Pre-heat WeberQ on high for 10min with lid down-Cook 3-4min each side (depending on thickness) on high with lid down turning only once-Let rest for 5min on warm plate with alfoil over the top so juices equalise-Lots of sea salt-Devour I'm very impressed with my Q I got a year ago - does a great job!
  4. Saturday morning was a little lumpy with some showers & squalls coming through. Got a few squid and then retired to the pub to watch the (disappointing) footy... Sunday was absolutely perfect! Landed a dozen KG's off Sheoak and bagged out on squid around the spit just south of the town. Great feed and some for the freezer! Highly recommend the cabins at the Pt Vincent Foreshore Caravan Park too - No. 4, which we stayed in, has enough room to leave the boat attached to the vehicle and is RIGHT on the beach. Awesome part of the world.Cheers for the advice guys.

  5. Hi guys,I'm heading across to Port Vincent in a couple of weeks for a boys weekend with the boat. Just wondering if anyone has much experience in the waters around there and possibly have any GPS marks? Not after the 'secret gold' but if there are any common well known grounds you can part with to get us started (and out of the pub...) that would be great! I usually target KG, snapper, squid and crabs but am interested in anything else that's there of note. Thanks & cheers B)
