  1. Yeah I got one and I got an Okuma titus. The okuma is a couple years older and the drag is still as smooth as the day I bought it and it holds more line than the TLD 50. But I just couldn't resist a reel from shimano and esspecially one as good looking as the TLD50. I would reccomend you buy one A-SAP if you serious about landing a decent bronzie land based... either that or a 9/0... TLD is lighter though.
  2. Senators are definately the AK-47 of game fishing reels. I would go for a 9/0 without thinking twice. You have some safety if you hook up to a decent bronzie. I have every about 3 lds and they are also good but I would still go for a 9/0. Maybe once you know your gonna be serious about the sport you can branch out and spend some extra money on a reel you know your gonna use... i.e. Tiagra/TLD 50 etc.
  3. Hey Undertaker. I also have a tld50 and reckon they are good reels for the money. I run hybrid 10kg on a tld15 and the line is bloody awsome stuff. You should be able to land some monster sharks on it. When I first got it I knew it was gonna take a while to catch something big on it.
  4. Thanks Brooksey, your signiture inspired me.
  5. Where abouts were these two cadavers pulled from? Near the birks?

  7. Yeah, I hear there is a few at the end of the outer harbour breakwater, some big some small. I'll have to check it out more once I get a kayak.
  8. They look like the same fish.
  9. Do you guys reckon slick rigs would work there at night? I reckon those 65mm drop bears would be off tap.
  10. Morning. It has a certain feel to it that is awsome. Beach fishing at sunset through to late night is also amazing on a full moon.
  11. I saw this doco late one night where these kids would go out in canoes with halfed coconut shells on a piece of bamboo and when you jingle it under the water all the bronzies would rush to the surface where they would spear them and bring these sharks onto their canoes. These sharks looked quite big too.
  12. I must have cursed myself becuase today when my mate and I went for a fish in the port for mullies, there was about 5 shags just circling around us, nailing each and every live bait. I couldn't help but think back to how addict must have felt. I had to de-hook one of the bastards and he pecked me. Oh well.

    Garfish

Yeah, off the beaches is the best bet for gar I'd say. Last summer we used to walk out and get some oat berely cranking and some gents in the berely stream and stay until we couldn't carry any more. This one day we brought some heavier gear down for a few rays maybe just before we headed of for lunch, and my mate managed to hook up to a big shark. I think it was that blue shark that visited Semaphore jetty. It was a good day. I can't wait for this years sessions with the gar.
  16. Definately not real. I can just tell by the teeth alone. Those teeth wouldn't be found in any aquatic dwelling creatures. They are like ape like molars you would find in a baboon. This fish wouldn't be a plankton feeder, thats for sure and those teeth would be useless at chomping other fish. The image also looks a little tampered with aswell.
  17. I just use the normal two hook snell rig as if rigging pilchards or what ever dead baits but then jam the top hook through his back and leave the bottom hook hanging. Always works for me. I couldn't really be bothered with rubber bands etc...
  18. Here is a chunky little 4 footer I landed off Semaphore jetty earlier in the year. http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/2JfiKBOf__P1000476edited.JPG[/img]
  19. Yeah, I think a 4 foot shark is just the right eating size but small when you want a decent fight.
  20. Any oaf can land a big snapper in their boat on whatever line class they like. I think if you are land based then 15 kg minimum.
  21. caught at edithburg breakwater http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/rb4VLwKZ__snookedited.jpg[/img]
