  1. Speaking of spending a fortune on fly gear...I bumped into a fella at a SAFWAA dam last week, who was having a crack at trout on the fly. Always been fascinated by flyfishing, yet never had a go at casting myself. He was running a reel he bought off ebay for $9 and a rod worth around 100. He reckoned it did the trick for him.... Just mucking around catching small trout in dams. I might end up going down a similar path... I'd only ever use the thing to have a quick cast in the fresh. If it can add to the experience of chasing fish, why not?
  2. That would've been a tussle :icon_eek:Where abouts was he caught? Just a general thing - Eyre?
  3. picked em up for 70 bucks.... From a site sponser too
  4. I've already picked some up... Bought a pair of Hornes Seal Bay ones... Been good so far. So go for it pwillly... Maybe I'd suggest meeting down at the beach - so you can give them a test run before you buy ???
  5. Nice work....would be great to chase GTs on poppers someday.
  6. What I do... Which is by no means the right way of doing things...I cast with my right, and jig with my right. But have my gear all set up for HBs, where I wind with my right hand.So I just flick the bail arm as I'm jigging the plastic to get rid of the slack ... keeps the line tight, and works it nice and slowly. Straight after hooking something I swap hands after making sure the lines tight... and wind in with my right. Doesn't make sense to do it this way - but for the plastics I use - bugs or wrigglers for reddys... It works. This thread made me think about maybe changing.
  7. I use a clip... Probably one of the ones you got frustrated with ::)I just tie a clinch knot to that from the leader and it's easy.
  8. Mulloway Argyrosomus japonicus 42.500 Schoenfisch Robert Port Elliot SA 3/5/1985Shark, Tiger Galeocerdo cuvier 521.000 Parsons Kevin Port Macquarie NSW 20/1/1985
  9. But then....If a decent snapper was bitten off by a shark, and the left over was under 38, would you be in possession of an undersize fish if you didn't through it back in?By that logic if you throw back a half eaten snapper it's the equivalent of releasing it.
  10. Pretty annoying to read that sorta stuff... :thumb: :thumb:Especially when others take such good care of our fishery.
  11. I reckon that'd be my second....First would be a little tommy.... Think I caught it at the Bluff when I was around 5.
  12. I reckon I'm going to end up with a pair of Hornes... I think the're called 'seal bay'??Going for 60 bucks at the Angler's Choice... with 10% = $54. So think I might be on a winner.Anyone else had any experience with these?Reckon I'll pick them up on Thursday night.Cheers
  13. Thanks for the responses everyone... Maybe a bit more expensive would be an idea -seeing as I'll have them for a long time to come.... I'd most likely use them 1-2 a week... Sure would be ;)Cheers
  14. I use facebook pretty often...If you're an amatuer musician myspace is a wonderful thing. But I'm with most others.... internet time is spend on fishing sites :fishing:
  15. I'm possibly the most unco person I know when it comes to knots...I struggled to teach myself how to tie a kinda albright knot sorta thing...I can't believe this works... Being so simple. Just done it - tested it, and the line broke - not the knot. What a win. Thanks for a great tip Tonyb.
  16. your a genius! That's a real good idea... Think I've even got one lying around somewhere.Cheers
  17. Maybe I should've looked on page 2.http://www.strikehook.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,78/topic,553.0/ :
  18. had a flick around today...Just wondering how big do these things get in SA??? What's the best anyone's done?I'm reading about 8kg fish coming from our state.... Anyone got any photos of one they've got??Cheers
  19. I've heard mixed reviews about squid jags... Some say there's no difference, others swear by the expensive yo-zuris..What are the differences between these and the 3 for $10 jags?Cheers
  20. I think the best bet is to take it to a fishing shop with a line machine... it'll be done so much better than at home.I just picked up a new reel that said on the box it'd hold 250 metres of 20 pound mono.... The bloke at the fishing store got 450 metres of 20 pound braid onto it for me. He probably put a bit too much on... But I'll take some off.
  21. Thanks for the help guys....I'll make sure to pick up these sheldons gents...The site says the Anglers Choice stock them.Cheers.
  22. Just wondering how long I could expect a box of gents to stay alive for??Is there anyway to make them last longer?Cheers
