  1. Cheers for feedback boys. Nikhum - yeah I have a play with it few weeks ago and felt awesome, also sussed the catalina bay jigger they had theyre too, slightly lighter action again.. might end up this direction I recon. SF - yeah that's the exact blank I was thinking of going, il go to fishermans paradise and have a look they usually got a few sabres floating around. Cheers.
  2. no dramas mate. il go suss the G Loomis and Saltist. Cheers.
  3. Well I've got a Daiwa Gekkabijin 2004 spooled with 6lb braid + Daiwa Gen black 1-3kg which I could use for whiting I guess.. Just thought its abit light on that's all.. I will keep searching, all good.
  4. thanks guys, been having a look and it seems certain blanks were "lighter" than others. As in ive felt a some PE1-2 rods that have a real slow, light action and felt perfect for whiting, but others have been more suited to small snapper.. I'm happy to go lighter, just thought id start there.. my snapped rod was a daiwa generation black 2-6kg,
  5. Hi guys, unfortunately last weekend when I was reversing my boat into my garage I snapped my whiting rod .. Anyway, so now im in the market of either buying a new one or getting one built... I want a nice, high quality rod that will be my boat "whiting" rod. Thinking of going for a PE1-2 blank, 6" length, Fuji sic guides, Fuji deluxe reel seat and solid rear grip (better for boat rod holders). SEED or Sabre are top of my list atm. Want a nice slow action. Out of the production rods, really considering the Daiwa Catalina BayJjigging Inshore (pe 1.2) felt them at R&A's and they felt great.
  6. go porties or moana mate and catch some trouties there, they will start rolling in pretty thick soon.. will stock the freezer up easy!
  7. Nice work mate, some decent sized mud marlin on fly gear.
  8. daiwa catalina 5000 is a decent size/strength mate, they are a good quality, tough reel that can actually dish out 15kg of drag. My mate uses this on a PE5/6 rod for kings and Samson, running PE5 braid and he loves the combo. If you going NZ or chasing big kings then you may want to step it up to a 6500, running PE8 or similar.
  9. pretty much all pre-tied rigs use monofilament, do you mean fluorocarbon Hoopsy? as fluorocarbon is much more invisible to fish and gives better line sensitivity. cheers.
  10. 50lb mono is a mega overkill IMO, id go back to 30lb or even 20lb depending where you fish... Also give the reel a good clean & grease while your there too

    Cranka Crab

wonder if these would work at a snapper ground off a boat, put it in the rod holder and let the waves work the crab... hmmmm

    Cranka Crab

you can get them from this joint https://www.fishin.com.au/ but as others said there like $21 each, so its a fair kick in the teeth lol.
  13. Hi James, Thanks for your input mate! I still haven't sorted out a combo for tuna & kingies yet, as I am like you and don't like skull dragging fish in. Im still making my mind up on which way to go as ive just bought the daiwa saltist extreme pe2-4 rod paired with the new 2015 daiwa saltiga 4000 reel (my snapper weapon). Its a wonderful combo and that's why im keen on getting another one similar, but may go for the PE5/6 stick as the action didn't seem too stiff when I played with it last. I don't live anywhere near Lonsdale, but I may come past one weekend anyway and have a look mate.
  14. Yep, thought so! Thanks for the info stealthy, have a good easter guys.
  15. Thanks stealthy, just had a look now and there pretty cool like lures, im going to try and track a couple down. how do you rig them up? one 5/0 single pulled through like a skirt or?
  16. Yep I think your onto something! ive caught carp on dimsims and fish from the fish n chip shop ahah, I got a video of it too.
  17. I run a daiwa generation black itchy twitchty (1.5-3kg & 6'10") as my trout / reddie rod and its great mate, good action and casts a mile.. they make a "two drunkin monkeys" which I should have bough its same length but slightly lighter at 1-2kg rating. Would be a great rod with some 4lb braid and 1000 reel. Have a suss on the net, can get them for about $180. cheers.
  18. Yeah nice hugo, I've heard a few stories of people catching salmon and trevally on homemade surface lures very similar to yours!! I will make one, cant hurt.. I've also heard of fellas jigging ring spanners with a hook attached the one end for snappers, salmon, etc. Cheers.
  19. Yeah nice, that's perfect! that popper at the top looks pretty trick, might have to invest in a couple I recon. hopefully get onto a few soon Cheers gypsy
  20. Yeah nice boys, thanks for all the feeback! im getting pretty keen now, couple months and they should be firing. I might go suss some poppers at my local
  21. Seagypsy - Yeah ive been warned about this style of fishing, can get dangerous quick! well im getting a brand new Yamaha 150 4banga, so reliability shouldn't (touch wood) be an issue, but having someone driving or watching the boat full time would def be a smart move! Do you use popper, or metals mate? cheers.
  22. Cheers underpants, yeah I haven't done much work with poppers yet, but im pretty keen to! What's the go for salmon?? 70mm / 90mm in pilchard or something?
  23. As underpants suggested; Lure wise id bring a handful of different celtas & Mepps spinners, try and get some with a "flasher or skirt", these seem to get more hits. Also get some rapala broken back lures, id suggest a F7 or F9 in brown trout pattern. Also id bring some very small hooks and 4lb fluro and float down some crickets (catch these there, tons of em on the banks).. depends where you go fishing, but be prepared to loose some gear. Cheers.
  24. yeah float down a couple pillies will get them going if they are there for sure ey!! I'm keen to chase them off a boat using lures though, something different for me.
  25. Mrfish - what skirts are they mate do you know?? yeah I usually use metals or hardbodies.. but do you think stationary fishing with the use of berley is the go? or trolling? cheers.
