twinpower 151
white soft rope lol:huh: hahaha can use expand on what sort it is lol cheers tp
USSR 0
Go into bunnings to where the rope and chain is.You will see it in bags measured from 5 to 20 m, and in various diameters.Think it's actually called "silver" or "silvered" rope.Hope that helps a bit more. jagger 24
Noticed BFC has the nice white soft stuff (silver rope) going out fairly cheap in various lenghts. In 12mm from memory as well.
chuckemback 0
TP as long as its soft and thickish and reaches way more than just the water off the highest jetty, ill put up a pic 4 ya too...lolthe middle rope is 20 years old plus, think silver rope is right name for it.the bottom one is nearly brand new ...never used yet ...i think. top one is thinnest 12mm i think.oh yea if you buy it from a boating shop get them to splice the ends for you , then you can use it as a tail rope easily too.i had to work all this crap out myself ya know!Harry Rickster
phear 0
12 mm silver rope. its expensive at bunnings better getting it from a boating store. and if your gaff is not heavy enough you may need to add some weights or chain to it!when u figure out splicing its actually really easy! only problem when u know how to do it is everyone wants u to do it for them lol
twinpower 151
yer i was thinkn to use silver rope because i use that for my rope traces but didn no if it was ok to use..i sort of know how to splice. if not ill get some1 to help me. so do i just splice the rope to a d clip and connect that to my gaff?my gaffs are heavy so chain isnt needed. cheers tp
spog777 1
If you havent done so think also about a length of chain to use between to rope and the gaff. Espescially if using triple hook gaff as this stops is turning side on and making hooking up a pain
USSR 0
I have about 50 cm of heavy galv chain on the gaff proper, but one of my mates put a welded 100mm ring through the top link.A simple hangmans noose through the top ring does it for me........more tension on it,the tighter it gets. chuckemback 0
so do i just splice the rope to a d clip and connect that to my gaff?you can do that TP, just splice a loop in the rope and unscrew a D shackle to put it around the loop .. i like the clips cozz it makes it easy to get a bucket of water.just make sure your D shackle fits the gaff and loop nicley. twinpower 151
ok cheers chuckemback im sure ill figure it out hahaha jus wanted to know what other people do lol cheers tp
1ONMEPILLIE 0
I think ther rope you are reffering to is Nylon rope which is a hell of alot softer than Silver rope and 10 times better on ya hands ;)We have both in stock as anchor ropes and sell more Nylon as it does not tangle as much as Silver rope can.And one other thing strength wise 8mm Nylon is equivilent to 14mm SilverJust a thoughtCheers
phear 0
i actually prefer the feel of silver rope and thicker is eiser to hold onto dont want 8mm slipping through the hands. just my preference not having a go adam!
spog777 1
It may seem a tad extreme but i tie knots every couple of feet along the rope to give me good solid hand holds and to stop rope slipping through my fingers
spartan 0
Do what i do do not take a gaff then you catch or hook up 4 sure when i do take a gaff i seem to get zilch:lol:
