Breamo 0
I got a Penn 760 Liveliner reel (bought it online while browsing the net after a night out ). I'm looking for a surf rod to match it.I need a 2pc preferably a light heavy action rod to try to catch a mulloway or any other big fish from the rocks or the beaches in Adelaide. From my research, the 13' 2 pc Daiwa Surf Sensor rod sound light and though (it's just over $300). But would this rod suit my reel (balance wise)? I know the Saltiga 6000 will be best, but I want to use the reel I have rather than buying another one (at least for the time being). The local tackle store owner recommended the 12' Wilson MT8144 2pc (about $200).Is it worth it to spend an extra $100 for the surf sensor?Any other suggestions will be much appreciated? jigsaw 0
My thoughts are the 8144 would be too heavy for the 760 but I could be wrong. You will need a bigger reel to fish that rod to it's full potential eg 950 spinfisher. Breamo
Kelvin 2,209
Ray and Anne have the sensor surf 13 foot for $249Very nice rod for the money Breamo
Kelvin 2,209
You can also get the wilson 8144 for cheaper if you shop around Breamo
Breamo 0
Thanks Kelvin,I was planning to pay Ray and Anne a visit. I actually have my heart set on the sensor surf but would it be able to cast enough distance with the slammer LL 760. I will be using half or whole frozen pilly and, if available, live small fish such as a shitty.
Breamo 0
I'm worried about the weight of the 8144. I think it would be a pain to carry over the rocks but I could be wrong as I never handled an 8144.
Shark_Fisho 1
I would be getting the sensor surf. Much lighter and more sensitive. The heavy 13 or 16fter would match nicely to a 760. The sensor is a great rod and its worth spending a few extra $ Breamo
Barbz 0
i bought a sensor surf combo the beggining of the year and its a probly one of the best rods ive bought. it has a relativly flexi tip and feels great when a fish is on,, very light rod aswell so easy to carry on the rocks

I think it would be a pain to carry over the rocks but I could be wrong as I never handled an 8144.The 8144 is a great no nonsense style of rod,and will take anything that comes it's way.Yes,they are heavier than "today's" rods, but at their cost effective pricing, you won't be scared to use them to their potential
aldingabeachfisho 1
gday mate I run a Penn Spinfisher big game surf rod, it is insainly good really light but has so much power in it. you can get them for around 130. but not sure how it would mauch your reel.best bet is to take your reel to your tackle shop put it on a few rods and see how it feels.
