That is a real mind blower that one' date=' if it had not tangled, it could have killed thousands upon thousands of fish...[/quote']Yep... and there will be plenty more fished being killed by these nets and stolen from our waters once no more Aussie fishers are out there to report such activities.People in Darwin and WA are well aware of the real threats.

Good work for highlighting that TB.How much longer have we got to go before we can kick out this incompetent moron federal labor governemnt?Even once they're gone we'll still be stuck with the greens in the senate won't we as senate elections are run a little different compared to lower house elections?my understanding is liberal won't be able to do much to reverse all this mess because the greens have the balance of power in the senate?

That is what Double Dissolutions are for, sir. ;) A full senate election resets the clocks to a then-current political groundswell. No bad thing - every now and then. Half-senate elections give more stability, to be fair, but sometimes a clean sweep is good too.Anyway, who knows the machinations behind the scenes, but it is even possible that Labor may have to be a little more bipartisan in the Senate if the Libs get a landslide in the lower house next year - if Labor want to avoid a double dissolution for tactical reasons, of course...It`s all wheeling and dealing.

PS There are of course no guarantees, depending on the subject matter - just have a look at what is going on as we speak;Labor - offshore processing, Malaysia and Nauru.Libs - offshore processing, Nauru only, with an intake quota increase trade off. And reinstatement of Temporary Protection Visas, even if only down the track.Greens - opposed to any offshore processing.Indications are that Coalition and Greens will be opposing the Oakeshott bill in the senate, albeit for rather different ideological reasons!Hypothetical - if Labor agrees on increased intake, Nauru only and TPVs (major egg on face with the last two, which is why they are not doing it, but anyway...) then the Greens become irrelevant in the senate. However don`t forget that Jools is relying in part on Mr Bandt in the lower house to govern, which is a good reason not to piss the Greens off too much?It can get..."complicated"...

Yep labor was totally crazy to hop into bed with the greens. They would've been better off to lose the last election than do what they did.Just goes to show labor politicians and probably all politicians for that matter care more about themselves than they do this country as anything to do with greens is bad for australia.

The Greens 'other policy' is anti population growth and another is anti urban sprawl. How they figure those two work in with their onshore processing policy is beyond me?Placing no external deterrent would only mean more lives lost IMO and entice the smugglers to rip these people off even more. This post is making no judgement on the immigrants themselves, just highlighting the failure of such political parties who do not realise their own hypocracies.TB

What a surprise. Not.http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-28/oakeshott-asylum-bill-defeated-in-senate/4098842"It means there will be no change to Australia's current border protection policies, which both sides of politics concede are not stopping asylum seekers from attempting the dangerous boat journey to Australia."
