Flyfishing with conventional gear

Is it actually possible / effective to cast (or at least float out) a wet fly on braided line from a boat? Using a spinning reel that is.Any thoughts or tips?

yes. using the method of BUBBLE floats.plenty of info about them on here and also on google..

Other option is to rig a dry or wet on a dropper above a micro unweighted soft plastic, like a Berkley Power Nymph.

Soft plastics dont last long flyfished,There is specific gel baitfish flies made for flyfishingWill take a lot more punishmemntI've used pink baitedbreath flies on convetional gear and nailed some ripper bream when they wouldnt take anything else.There is a number of flies with weighted eyes, clousers, baited breaths, crazy charlies, weighted nymphs, etc that can be cast and will outfish most lures on salmon. When snapper or salmon fishing you could even use clousers or deceivers on paternoster rigs as your hooks, bait them up, if u get baited theres a good chance they'll come back and nail the bare fly. Im sure it will work a treat

HEATHENS Only joking boys, Mate anything is possible with a fly attached to you rig. Look at those surf poppers that they use on Salmon, they are just flies tied above a weighted section. As long as you can get a fly into the mix it will work. I just choose to do it with the appropriate gear Cheers Dazz
