Southcoastfisho 0
Just wondering if Bream is good as bait??
Kelvin 2,200
Not really, plenty of other fish that are better as bait. Not very oily as a dead bait and too big for livebait.
smokeykebab 175
If you want sharks or rays then yes. just remember it must be legal size and loosen your drag. seen 2 rods go in with live bream as bait due to a tight drag.
pauly s 426
You should only take what you need for a feed when chasing bream. They are very slow growing and to take a 30yr old bream and put it out as live bait i think is stupid. Not sure bout you but id much rather swallow a troutie or tommie over a bream with that dorsil spine full of spikes 4THALOVE
Booma 1,360
Have used Bream, with some success. But it takes a fair bit of preparation of a fillet/slab and not really worthwhile in my opinion considering it will basically only end up in a ray (trimming spikes, scaling, cutting).....also very boneyWould rather drop some dollars at the fish factory for decent baits than go out and try and catch and prepare a 30cm bream! 4THALOVE
Southcoastfisho 0
thanks fellas. I caught a couple nice bream the other day at the murray mouth and have them ready to eat but I figured if I could turn them into a mulloway it would be better. cheers. Station49 33
Legal size bream is about 9 years old on average versus legal salmon trout being about 14-16 months according to what ive seen on the net.Just something to consider when ramming a couple of hooks through its back. Not one of the over the top cranks non this but seems a bit harsh when a fish has made it that far.
