Dylbaa 174
Gday all, went for a bit of a look today to suss out a new rod, picked up the daiwa generation black rods today and they feel great! Anyone have any feedback on them? P.s I'm a shimano person but these rods feel A1 for the price they are asking!
bjorn2fish 4,612
I reckon Fishingmad has a Gen Black. They seem to be pretty nice rods for the price.
ShoreJigger 171
I have a 'Wild Weasel', good versatile stick. 6'10, 2-6kg, 2-14g cast weight. Blanks are nice and crisp. The micro guides take some getting used to, but with a good slim beauty or FG I have run up to 15lb leader on PE1. I love it.
ShoreJigger 171
And another thing, I was always a shimano man myself until I tried Daiwa's rods. Overall, Daiwa poops all over Shimano in the rod stakes. Now it's Daiwa rods and Shimano reels for me. plankton
Dylbaa 174
Great minds think alike shore jigger! Shimano Stradic 3000ci4 is intended to go with it! How do you reckon a 20lb leader would go with the micro guides casting wise? Intending on using it for coorong mulloway on plastics, I'm leaning towards the gen black at the moment but I do get pretty picky with my gear at times I also picked up a shimano 3zero rod, feels real comfy in the hand, as does the Shimano nano xt... Tossing up between these three now, also considering a pfleuger trion as a cheaper option, open to suggestions too 😊
langas 38
yep get in contact with fishingmad he has one
Zorgs 141
I'm keen to know others thoughts as well. Bought an Air Edge just recently and price was really good for quality, the Gen Black was on the other side and a really nice feel to it as well. Just went on price really as the edge was on special. ShoreJigger 171
I don't think you'll need to run 20lb for Coorong Mullies. I think the guides will struggle with 20 unless you can tie a good FG. 15lb is more than enough for down there.
plankton 725
I've got a gen black itchy twitchy, great rod rod for small sp/hb, I mainly use it as a bream rod but it will certainly handle mullies as well. The guides are pretty small, the biggest leader I've used is 10 lb with 6 lb fireline mainline and it handles it well enough, a bit of banging on the cast here and there. I'm not sure you'd get away with 20 lb. For the money I feel that Daiwa rods are much better than Shimanos, nicer feeling blanks and better components across the board. Shimano rods just feel cheap and crappy when I hold them langas
Dylbaa 174
Gen black seems the way to go for me I think! As for reels, I'm quite happy with the Stradic range but open to any suggestions? I'll be looking at running 10lb braid with it
langas 38
Daiwa revros is a fantastic reel I use it on my yak so it cops it a bit and the thing loves it haha
ASD14 197
Mate I've got two generation blacks and I love them both!! I've got the Itchy twitchy 2 (1.5-3kg) and the wicked weasel (2-6kg).. I use them for everything from trout in the hills to whiting / snapper! Very light weight and good value for money.Highly recommend them
Dylbaa 174
Very tempted but not sold yet! Haha Toss up between gen black and a shimano 3zero, both seem like great rods!
ShoreJigger 171
The 3 zeros look pretty good specs wise. No problems with micro guides, fuji k. I love my K guided rods.
Dylbaa 174
So comfortable in the hand too Shorejigger! Being a shimano person I might have a soft spot for it too haha
ASD14 197
Gen Black. That is all... ahaha Dylbaa
Station49 33
Gen Blacks are good rods. Should be a perfect medium duty plastics set up for you matched with the 3000. 15-20lb leaders will be fine with the guides, you will just have to try either FG knots or not winding the knot past the first guide.
