Ranger 48
Brooksey, that started off as a really good story, but ya forgot the ending! The bit that goes: "and then we all lived happily ever after!"
Kingsley 19
This is a 'HUGE' porties squid I caught a little while ago. I could see it cruising around the small reefy area in the shallows and decided it would look better on my dinner plate.Size 2 el-cheapo jag using a coke bottle as a float saw the demise of this poor squidy at precisely 1:30am http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/MJyAEI9s__porties_squid.jpg[/img]
shmick 0
"and then we all lived happily ever after!"Shouldn't it be "and we all ate happily ever after". ;D
Kelvin 2,200
I have been catching plenty of squid on my favourite blue colored cheap jig which I picked up from one of the site sponsors for $1.67It is a blue size 2.5 jig which I have made a few modifications to. The jig has a few dots along the body and some red to represent the flare of a baitfish gills. I have glued on some 3D eyes made from silver paper hole punched into a circle, permanent marker and a drop of epoxy. The feathers have been replaced at least once and the hooks sharpened numerous times. Rips have been repaired with nail polish and the jig is a nice brown color from squid ink and tuna oil. My latest modification is to insert some glass rattles for a bit of noise. These jigs have caught me more squid in the last few years than all my other jigs. They represent a small baitfish like a pilchard. Here is a squid caught on the jig from my latest trip off the kayak. And I'm sure it won't be the last http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/cVDjvzGg__DSC01632_Small.JPG[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/lZjTilET__DSC01631_Small.JPG[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/Yw2rNQmm__DSC01625_Small.JPG[/img]

And that night my mate lost two huge sharks one we lost at the jetty that would have pushed 10 foot!
bluey68 2
Early winter morning tides always account for big squid from the wool bay jetty. http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/jKWpilTw__vlcsnap_207706.png[/img]

niftrev 2
On the 11-03-09 I was fishing in my mate’s boat out from North Haven. I was catching some nice size gar when suddenly they all went off the bite. Not long after, I heard the familiar sound of my mate’s handline spool spinning around a couple of times. I turned around and asked him the obvious “Did you just have a squid onâ€ÂÂ. He reluctantly replied with an incoherent answer. I’m not sure exactly what his answer was, but the suspicious look on his face said it all. Within seconds my old trusty jag was found and immediately chucked out behind the boat.;)My mate just can't handle the fact that squid favour my jag over his relatively newbie. My mate is still searching all the dumps far and wide to find a Yo-zuri just like mine. ;D ;D http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/gEpaAfoa__squid_11_03_09.jpg[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/uZN6C734__Old_faithful.jpg[/img]

luke_westlakes 4
Caught this guy at ardrossan jetty on a yozuri squid jag after he decided to try and eat brookseys live squid, which was intended for a mully??? Never heard of a squid eating a squid before! Was a great day for squidding, we ended up with about 25 squid for the day! Brooksey decided to use one for ray bait where he hooked an approximately 80kg smooth ray and decided he would like to see how if feels to get stung by it!!! We had to rush him to hospital, but don't worry he's alright now but he will have a sore leg for a couple of days!! http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/5FFpAcwQ__DSC02867.JPG[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/sSxkj4sQ__DSC02854.JPG[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/HzNM5Swk__DSC02871.JPG[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/h29RfZWK__DSC02880.JPG[/img]
brenton 637
Make sure you do all the right things with that ray injury Brooksey because as you probably know they can lead to long term complications if its get infected.I know a guy who had half his ass cheek removed and that was 12 mnths after he got barbed. cheers brenton
YoBBo 0
I know a guy who had half his ass cheek removed and that was 12 mnths after he got barbed. cheers brentonAt least his Mrs will think twice about nagging him to 'get off his arse' LOL
luke_westlakes 4
Just found out it might be a bit worse then what we first thought! Brooksey went for a check yesterday and they realised it puntured and artery and was pretty close to a nerve is his leg, cos he can't lift his toes up at the moment but can bend the down. Hes having an operation today to fix it all up, so hopefully it all goes well! And how did your mate get stung in the ass brenton? was he trying to sit on it! lol
brenton 637
Nah ;D lifting into the boat and he had it resting on the side trying to get hooks out and it whipped its tail round and got him in the arse,it was funny at the time but ended up being pretty serious cheers brenton
davidbloop 0
everything seems against me trying to enter this comp. I usually manage to bring home at least 1 or 2 squid a day minimum but the past few days it just hasn't been happening, snagged jigs, snapped lines, birds nests, high winds, its all against me! I'm determined though
