a special day out for my 500.0th

Recommended Posts

Finally the silly season has wound down a little & allowed us a small break.Took the ferrets up to Caloote (a little downstream from Mannum) for a few hours early one morning in an attempt to beat the heat.Packed all the stuff, boat, skis, ropes, wetsuits, pfd's, kneeboards, cameras, picnic & anything else you'd imagine needing on a kids skiing day.Wanted to make it as big a day as possible to build the runts confidence without actually performing the dutyTook the short jog up through Kersbrook to Birdwood & turned off to Mannum, 40 mins saw us at the ramp that used to be at Caloote.Fenced off & unusable, the ramp, due to riverbank collapse.A short drive further downriver to Zadows Landing saw us launch safely on a mud & sand ramp, fine for most if throttle is used sparingly.Off we cruised to select our chosen training camp, "beach" to teach the kids some basic skills on a kneeboard whilst in the protection of shallow water & little traffic.5 kms downstream found us at Pompoota landing, nice shady little sand beach, private as such so after approaching the group & asking permission to stay we unloaded the well laden Hornet Trophy.First the little one, just gone 2 1/2 & full of herself, 1 clear instruction, "arms straight" & off she went like a pig into a she-ite pit.Posted ImageNext, the big sister, not so gungho, 1 clear instruction, "arms straight" now it may sound similar & repetitive but trust somebody that knows a little about teaching waterskiing disciplies, with kids keep it simple, clear & foremostly positive. So, after a little, not so sure of ourselves, we were off.Posted ImagePosted ImageThe calm quiet area was a great thing to build the confidence of both kids & it wasn't too long b4 the first request to hook it to the boat please daddy, of course we didn't on this day as it may have been a little too much too soon, the kids are only little & normally kids of 6 or 7 struggle to conquer water skills so we'll save it for another day but Dad did get a workout on his hammys & triceps.Posted ImageWould be happy to help anybody wishing for some ski tips, am a has been State, National & International competitor with Coach 1, even better, anybody wanting to organize a Strikehook Ski day with boat supplied I'll offer to sit in it for the day.Know where to find me.Finatic
