blightmadi69 0
Hello everyoneplease help this fisho with a bad habit and dont how to shake it....some quick back gound on my style of fishing then explain my problem.I love all types of fishing but all light gear. I spend many hours flicking sp's and hb @ the onk (favourite) and the pat with some success ( getting better as knowledge grows ) I also love boat fishing, Have a 18 foot sportsfish for open water which is a gold rig!! ( snaps ect ) and have recently purchased a 3.85 stacer tinnie. This purchase is so I can launch on beach ( mainly seacliff ) without the hassle of a 3 hr prep and a 3 hr cleanup as i do for the big boat.My problem is ... ..we all bring enough gear to target all species as back up (lots of room to hold gear ) . When i go in the tinnie i do the same thing and do it all badly. You see i will target whiting gar and squid and bring a heavier rod to tease bigger bottom fish. The first problem with this is the boats cluttered and messy. have good rod storage but doesnt matter it shS$#@S me to tears. I JUST CANT JUST TARGET 1 FISH SPECIES !!!!. So the theory is that instead of doing 1 job well .. I do 4 jobs baddly and my results show that lately. No matter what the circumstances I can not help myself loading up with to much gear..Question is ... does anyone else have this problem and does anyone got any advice how to shake this disease!!!!!!!Cheers Blighty

urhookedfish 12
Decide on 1 species that your fishing for before you leave land.i.e. Snapper. If Targetting snapper there is no point taking your gar and tommy rod (providing you have enough bait/softies on board for the snapper.if going for gar..take only gar rods, not general all purpose whiting rods as well. I think having a back up plan is necessary but not 3 or four.I think your back up plan should pretty much use the same rod as your primary target.Ie targetting gar (gar rod) with back up fish of tommies (same rod)Targetting snapper use medium gear with back up plan of fishing for Kg's.Shouldnt be too hard to master.so basically if you were to take a medium boat rod, you can go for snapper, kgs. and a light rod can be used for gar, tommies or squid. But it certainly does pay to specialise. Specialising is not just about rod choice but also how to present certain baits etc. and where and when to fish.ie there is no point going after snapper at the wrong part of the day.Basiccally I know what I am going for before I head out.Decide on what fish you want to catch, ie do you want a feed or do you want a trophy fish etc. I often miss out on smaller fish (bread and butter fish) as I am happily targetting snapper whilst others pull up gar etc. Now I know I could catch these gar, but dont stray from my original plan. Hope this helps

Guest shagging
throw out any guests you invite onto the boat makes more room but not your partner she's needed to cook your future meals
Piranha 76
buy a kayak and fish out of it for a while, you will have no choice but to find alternatives then go back to boating
Kelvin 2,200
I usually only bring 2 rods out with me when I kayak. I use threadline outfits with 6lb braid and fish with a good quality snap so I can change rigs. I troll small minnow lures when traveling to spots, then can quickly change to a squid jig, gar rig, whiting rig.You could easily do 95% of your fishing with only 2 outfits. rocknev 2
a whiting rod, for whiting, the snapper rig for squid, .which is then swapped the whiting rod for squid when on the snapper, or maybe just use the snapper rod, and fish the whiting with handlines.better yet, throw the lot out, and just use handlines.you will catch more whiting with handlines over a rod any day of the week... the trick is, DONT MOVE YOUR FEET....150lb line for snapper, and bobs ya uncle.when that hand line spool, is set in the side pockets, and starts spinning uncontrably at a great rate, you will know what its like to handline a big knobbie....good fun, but DONT wrap the line around your fingers for extra leverage... if that biggie goes for a run so will your fingers.... chuckemback 0
Your not alone blightmadi ...i do the same and im landbased , always heaps of gear to take . sometimes it gets used other times not but its there just in case! :woohoo: i say take as much as u want but only have 2 lines in the water!! i like having specific rods alread rigged up ready for when the particular spiecies swimms past
Piranha 76
another option would be to buy reels with spare spools to cover more bases eg, 2-4kg rod 1 spool 4-6lb for your light work whiting/gar/tommies and another spool 10-12lb for snapper/salmon/mulloway ect.then a second heavier outfit one with 15-20lb and the other with 30-50lb.that way you can take out only 2 rods with 4 different line classes. tonyb 1,017
I sympathise with you mate, I have major problems whenever I contemplate a trip out any where, especially as I combine my hunting and fishing sports together on some occasions. On a recent 4 hour trip I took my .22 rimfire, my 243 Centrefire, a new air rifle (needed sighting in, couldn't wait) My finesse Raider rod and a Fly fishing outfit.Had to think of 3 different lots of ammo, box of flies and my 5 kg rucksack of never to be left behind, killa SP's and HB's (only used two lures!!!)Yep we're a crazy lot. If you find a solution please pass it on as it takes me ages to load all this gear to go out, unload and clean when I get back and often a bagfull of fish to sort as well  Funny part is, I can't wait to do it all again the following week
afishyfish 4
Shoot the fish and whack the goats to death with the strudwick Tony.Problem solvered
bocky 2
Hey Blighty i got this problem as well. Im in a slightly bigger boat but by the time you chuck in the crab nets Burley buckets drift anchors etc. Theres stuff everywhere. Its something i have learned to live with now and it used to bug the hell out of me to especially when there was a couple of others with me. Im sure the one day i leave something at home its the day im going to need it. So every time i go out it all comes with me. I think over time i have got more organised and everything has its place and its more of an arganised mess. Good luck with the problem mate but theres no easy answer if you want to be ready tackle whatever swims past.
blightmadi69 0
Thanks folks Although a light harted thread , it is a bad problem, there are some great helpful tips.Thankyou for inputJust heading out now to dump the tinnie @ seacliff for a solo sortie.I have been strong and only got 2 rods ( gar and whitting and hand line for squid ) started with five last night and every beer I had I would take one out... ( well that may have been every 3 beers then take a rod out HA )Looking forward to a few hours out by myself . Will let every \one know how it turns out Cheers Blighty
Mr Keen 0
you poor poor thing blighty, must be tough not being able to fit all your needs into your SECOND boat!! man some people have it tough! trust, me i will be thinkin of you when i am carrying all my stuff down at the mundoo channel. alas the solution is simple, give me one of your boats and problem solvered. the small one seems to be making life hard for you at the moment. or you could do as mentioned in previous posts and target specific species or multi-task your gear/spools etc etc, but i think you will get way more satisfaction from my idea! always Keen
blightmadi69 0
Gday again folks Havent been on site for awhile so I thought I would give an update on my disease.as mentioned I went out on a solo sortie in Tinnie from Seacliff wed week ago. An absolutely pefect day ( was flatter and clearer than the Blue Lake ) about 30 degrees. Had meeting in the morning and got out on water by 10.30 just 1.5 hours before bottom of tide. As explained, the night before I started with 6 rods standing against the boat and by the time I finished my six pack of Coopers ( or maybe it was more ) I had 3rods left standing.( by the way I have no comercial agreement with this great company just well spent shares ). I was fairly proud of myself. As I left in morning with three outfits I couldnt helpmyself and I put 2 backups in!!!!!!!!! So I was in tow with 5 rods in the car. ( here we go again....) Pulled onto the beach to prep the boat before launching so I thought I would stop and think about what I was doing. Had a smoke and contemplated having the rest of my coffee or enjoy one of those beautiful Coopers products. Opted for coffee then proceded to pull out the artillary. I was strong and boat got loaded and I thankyou Pirana and Rocknev for your advice because I ended up as follows1. Favourite old Gar outfit ( about 15 years old ) 2. My best Bream outfit . 7' ATC 2-4kg paired with Pflueger supreme XT spooled with my favourite mustard Dynamite 15 pound braid which is thinner and I find more sensative than 4 pound fireline. ( for KG's )3. My my eachway bet came by splitting my light snapper rod and bringing only my 7' starlo stik 6-10kg for backup. no reel.I also spooled a new handline to cast for some squid if need be ( thanks for advice Rocknev )I also didnt take my Tackle box i just loaded up a few rigs and other tackle in my small bream Backpack. The result being I have never had so much room before and felt very comfotable. finally I was organised for the first time....Headed straight out from Seacliff about 2.5 km to a favourite ground I havent fished for a while. After sounding around for 5 min I came accross 2 or 3 big pods of unknown fish so very excitedly dropped the pick. Burley bucket out for gar and some secret ground burley went out as well. Gar line out with anticipation and whitting line down. Was so amazing this took 5 mins when usually takes 10 to get anything in the water. Was only a couple mins til I hooked and landed my first KG to 35cm. within a couple more mins landed my second about same size ( Game on Boys !!!) 2 keepers in 10 mins of dropping the pick. went quiet for 10 then landed my 3rd KG to just over 40cm. Bring it on I thought.Quiet again then got absolutely smashed , fish took alot of line then I dropped it Grrrrrrr. Re baited and had a small run again finally bringing it to the boat and was a small snapper but just undersize but great fun. Outfit doing great job at this stage. This happened twice til till I landed another small snapper to the same size . I was having a ball. Change of tactics I thought as I was loosing fish I would upgrade my rig with bigger hook size. At this stage I thought I would change my rod just in case ( would hate to break by Bream rod on something excessively big ) so my starlo camme off the bench to pair with the Pflueger and into the water we go again. The next 20 min was quiet on the bottom but had 4 gar Garfish hang them selves that kept me busy. While taking off another gar my Pflueger started screaming, dropped fish and gar rod on the deck and grabbed the sceaming rod. I had drag right down and slowly screwed the reel to near max drag to stopp the fish. Big head shakes and a couple more small runs finally saw the red color coming to surface. netted this nice red finally and jumped and screamed in joy like a 10 yo kid. Fish went 55cm and very happy. The next hour and half I proceeded to land 1 more legal Kg another half dozen suicidal gar. That was enough gar for the day so packed gar rod up and though 30 more mins to head home. Again I had a big run which i knew wasnt a red. I played this fish for a good 5 mins but just kept peeling line like cotton. I was so happy how this combanation was working the tiny 1000 size Pflueger was amazing and I had more drag to play with ( so smooth ). Finally brought a 2 plus foot doggy shark to the side of the boat which I admired for a couple mins then cut it loose to fight another day.Motored back to beach with the biggest smile on my dial and coopers in hand. Does life get any better than this!!!!RESULT4 kg's11 garand 1st legal snapper from tinnie. YEHAHThe question though!!! AM I CURED???? only time will tell but it did teach me some important things about fishing a tinnie. So thanks for your advice.Sorry I dont own a camera yet , just a phone which I have no idea how to transfer. This is on my shopping list.Cheers Blighty
