  1. As some of you know, I work for the SA Gov in a marine group and did work at a water plant for a while. I don't work for any of the groups you have been talking about but think I can understand most of the scientific and practical limitations of a desalination plant.Issue 1, Where to put it Issue 2, It needs "LOTS" of electrical powerIssue 3, It has a by product of brineIf you put the brine back in the sea, the outlet really needs to be south of Ward Spit/Point Lowly.I think dumping brine in the sea is a wast as its quite valuable.Pacific Salt at Whyalla make salt from sea water. It is much ea
  2. I think it is a Handfish perhaps an Australian HandfishThis is what a spotted Handfish looks likehttp://www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/webpages/bhan-54h7hs?open
  3. I have a dual station boat so I stand on a small box at the lower station so I can see over the bow and I sit in the fly bridge so I don't get thrown out by the rolling movement.
  4. If you are still in the market for a 30 size reelI noticed BCF are running a web special of Titus 30s for $99Not quite a good as the Shimano TLD but unbeatable on pricehttp://store.bcf.com.au/ProductDetails.aspx?PLU=special11
  5. No, I what to use use them but thanks for asking
  6. SuperThahn is right they don't know what their talking about.I have two Tiagra 50WLRSA's I wanted the LRS models for the flexibility of fishing two different stiles.1/ with IGFA rules 24Kg Mono for Game fish SBT etc.2/ with 130lb hollow core with a mono topshot for large fishYou can set the strike drag to 24/4=6Kg or 37/4=9Kg or 60/4=15KgMax strike drag for a 50WLRSA is 16KgThe main difference between 50WA and 50WLRSA is the drags 13/16 17/20KgThe 30's are different The drags on the 30A and 30WLRSA are the samebut the 30WLRSA is a bigger reel.(I know this sounds wrong but check the web site)ht

  8. I have to reluctantly agree with some of the previous postsI have been chasing school SBT, and have been using my TLD25s not my big outfitsThe small school SBT 10-30Kg are on the shelf 150-600M deep heading east to the Pacific OceanThe Adult SBT 80-200Kg are off the shelf, 600M plus heading west to Indian Ocean to breedWhether you should be hunting breeders of an endangered specie is a moral decision you alone will have to make. The SBT breeder stocks have stabilized in number at 3-14% of original levels but taking one or two will not make any difference. The damage has already been done. I wou
  9. Hi DrgrimThat outfit looks ideal for SBTI would put 600M of 37Kg/80lb Mono on it and go fishing I am a bit of an armchair expert at this time as I have not caught a SBT but I have been trying.I think I may have to go out on some charters to see how they do it. It still seems a bit redundant when you have your own boat and gear.Leaders: heavy for trolling, if you get bust offs on the leader go heaverlight for chunking if they get skidish go lighter even to the point of a single hook on the main line, with no terminal gear at all. You could also use 1200 yards of 130lb Jerry Brown line one Hollo
  10. Need a bit more information Make and model of rod & reel Rod type, bent butt, length. Type of boat Your size, weight and age.Fishing in a chair or stand upStyle of fishing planed trolling or chunkingThis line class is not commonly use in SAMost 60Kg/130lb Game outfits have be designed to run mono You should not use a chair rod as a stand up outfitYou need to be in top physical shape to fish 60kg line classDifferent terminal setup are used between trolling or chunking
  11. Hi StatesquiderThe Tyrnos 30 is another good optionTLD 25 Vs Tyrnos 30 Same ManufactureBoth single speedSame Line CapacityCost $259 to $349The Tyrnos is a stronger cast alum body but more expensiveYou don't brake the body on a reel very often! Weight 695gr to 1080gr Drag 8 Strike 10 Max to 7 Strike 15 MaxThe main difference is the gear ratio3.6:1 and 5.0:1The Tyrnos is a high speed reelThe Tyrnos has a very long crank handle which reduces the effective ratioThe TLD has a short crank handle which increases the effective ratioThe Tyrnos would be better on mullies and KingiesThe TLD would be be
  12. Hi StatesquiderI went though the same selection processI decided on TLD25 on a short stroker roller tip with 600M of 15kg Mono The TLD30 is a two speed, a bit of overkill on 15KgI do have two speed reels on my 24Kg and 37Kg gearThe TLD25 is much cheaper, less painfully when you lose it over the side. The TLD25 have a very good reputation as hard to break. I have been on Marlin boats in Cairns and they use TLD25 on 15Kg on marlin to 425 lb a good endorsement.I like solid glass short stroker roller tips rods, cheap and very hard to break. I think it is more sporting and more fun to have a lighter

  15. The conventional wisdom is you don't use small diameter braid with roller tips for fear of the braid get jammed between the roller and the frame.
