  1. I find after a big fishing session in the boat mine get filthy so I scrub them gently with a soft scourer and warm soapy water. Comes up perfect and doesn't smell :)Nothing worse than going to grab the rod and it stinks before you go for a fish

  2. It's that time of year again lads and the weather is getting :rain::rain::rain: I hunted down a question i asked a couple of years ago about waders but i never got around to buying them    It's either too cold to fish or i just brave it in boardies :woohoo: I have grown very tired of this and i'd love to fish a lot more this winter so i need to buy some waders ;);) The underlying problem being i'm a size 15 :S :S :S Last this was discussed i was told to get onto hornes directly, does anyone know who I should be actually be contacting? Money is always a problem but i'm aware it can't be in my case :S So money not being an issue are custom hornes the go?

  3. Nothing beats fresh and local! It is a great pity a lot of our cockles go interstate for food :(Bloody top bait! I change to squid if i can't get goolwa cockles. They are just literally not worth using unless you have nothing else...Can always collect your own if they are not loaded with ecoli.... hahaha

  4. haha is that the case? whoops...I was playing around with my plastics last night and rigging a heap up to see how they'd go on the new sizes i'd bought and they should work a treat!I haven't used them much in the past but i reckon they are going to save me a heap of money fishing for trout and reddies! And hopefully more fish..

  5. Looks like grass glass out there PRM :woohoo:
Went out in kayak this morning for a couple of hours' date='taking photo's of catch would be good to throw in x' date='y,z spot as we seem to be bumping in to a lot lately.Even my daughter says thumbs up to that spot dad but sssh keep that one quite.[/quote'']Todays Post was bought to you by the letters P R and M
    Bahahahahaha! Love it
  6. Not sure if any of you lads have seen it yet but in the latest catalogue they have nitro jigheads normally $7.95 a pack.... 8 for $10!!!!!!!!!There is a catch! They are the jungle hook type, so for those who aren't familiar with them they are the hooks you rig weedless on soft plastics. They are very lightly weighted with lead and are owner hooks but bloody good value or a great excuse to see if rigging weedless is for you :)I bought 16 packs for $20 and saved myself a touch over $100! 6 x 1/50oz #4 (5 pack)6 x 1/32oz #2 (5 pack)4 x 1/24oz #1 (5 pack)They have a HEAP of them stocked so if there is some left in a week i'll go back and get some more ;)I also noticed they had 50% off yozuri too but i'm stocked up alreadyGet amongst lads and score one hell of a bargain :)Squid

  7. Cheers for the multitude of responses lads :)It's not something you hear much about really. But yeah I was just intereste to know :)Although at the end of a days tournment fishing i'm sure the last thing you'd want to do it clean and prep a fish! How big does a livewell have to be for a yak comp sambo?

  8. I think the lads have covered knots :)The only advice i'd add is if casting lures, when you flick the bail arm over, pull off a bit of line against drag and it helps prevent wind knots as sometimes when the bail arm is flicked the line can be a bit loose. At the end of the day flicking lures I put on a salmon lure and cast as far as i can and wind it back under even tension. Nice and tight and I haven't had a wind knot this year! I've converted 8 of my 9 reels to braid now and I regret nothing!

  9. Gday again ladsI was just reading through a few articles and it got me thinking. When you fish in a tournament are you allowed to keep any bycatch for the table? You read a lot about blokes catching flatties etc during bream competitions and I'm not sure if you would be allowed to keep them or not. I'm not familiar with the rules and regulations :)If you fished a donut for the competition it would be a bit of a slap in the face if you weren't allowed to at least come home with dinner!Any thoughts?CheersSquid

  10. what species do you intend on targetting with it?I prefer 8lb sunline as it is really smooth and casts brilliantly when i throw lures. It is light enough to throw quite small lures but has withstood snapper up to 9kg so far. I can't remember but I think i fit just under 300m of the 8lb on there so there is a bit up your sleeve if a big fish comes along :)Is there much of a size difference between the 2500 shimano and daiwa capacity wise?

  11. My current rod is a 7ft 2-4kg tcurve tournament and previously i used a cheap 7ft 2-4kg et special.I love my new rod but it really is best suited to flicking lures as the butt is incredibly short! I've had a lot of trouble getting it to sit properly in a rod holder when on a boat :) So to fish with a bit more confidence i reckon another 2-4kg rod with a longer butt is on the cards ;) Any excuse for more gear!!!!!!!!!

  12. At the end of the day i suppose it is up to how you like to fish. I use a 4000 for snapper and i find that to be more than enough to stop huge ones so would never consider using it for whiting unless fishing in 40m+.In shallow water up to maybe 20m i use a 2500 spooled with 8lb braid with a 7ft 2-4kg rod and if i am fishing any deeper than that i use a 3000 spooled with 15lb paired with a 7ft 3-6kg rod. I prefer fishing as light as possible and i've taken snapper up to 9kg on the 2500 with 8lb so i have full confidence in my setup if a big fish grabs my whiting bait.

  13. Hahaha my missus thinks i'm crazy but I now go to a fair amount of trouble to keep my gear cleanTo do the reels though I tighten the drag up and squirt it with a water bottle with a tiny amount of detergent and hot water. Even if you don't dunk your reels the salt spray and wet hands not forgetting the water than is thrown off the line when you reel in all get into places where you don't want it :( So i squirt all the screws to remove any residue and give an overall quick wipe over. After the reel has dried I check to see if there is any salt (in which i clean the area again) and then wipe over the entire reel with a very small amount of wd40 sprayed on a rag. I use just enough to leave a very thin film on the entire reel. Since I started doing this i discovered it is a lot harder for things to stick to the reel and keeps it cleaner. When all of this is done I lightly oil the screws for added protection next time i head out as that is the first place salt begin to build up. A quick drop to the line roller, handle bearings and in the maintenance port. I then remove the handle and store in a ziplock bag and loosen the drag off completely and store in a felt bag back in its box. Keeps my reels in working order and they still look mint :)Rods get a different run. They come into the shower and get a scrubbing with a toothbrush around the eyes and where anything has stuck. Paying special attention to the grips as they get filthy with bait juice etc. Dry it with a towel and then i wipe it over with the wd40 rag so there is a very thin film on it which again stops things sticking and helps keep the salt out.Tools i've used all get soaked in the sink with hot soapy water then cleaned and dried. Wiped over with wd40 then oiled where needed.Lures, hooks and rigs i have used all get soaked in hot water and then left to dry on a towel. Then the next day i put them back in the tackle box. The esky is emptied and hosed out then scrubbed with hot soapy water and wiped over with spray and wipe and stored in the shed.Over the top I know but NO RUST, NO SMELL, NO GRIME and my gear keeps brand new :)
