I've got a couple of raiders now that are great to use (as mentioned, around the $100 mark).Do you know what size you want? I'm a fan of 7 footers and 90% of the time i'd use a 2-4kg but 3-6kg is still great for flicking and handles snapper with more ease. Butt length is worth paying attention to as well as if it is too short it wont fit securely in a rod holder.I was hesitant to graphite a few years ago but couldn't be without it now. Amazing sensitivity!The best thing i could recommend is to take the reel into the shop so you can see how they pair upBest of luck mateEDIT: Just re-read the question properly. I'd hold off a little longer so you can spend a bit more on both the rod and reel. Personally i'd aim for closer to $200 if you can hold off.

I'm on the market for one of those buff/head sock thingos. I hate sunblock so if i can cover up then i will :)I rarely get burnt on my legs but I really should invest in a long sleeved shirt for fishing. Last time i went out my arms got so toasted i couldn't go in the sun without unbearable pain :(I just can't handle greasy sunblock.

I've had a few single circle gut hooks. Bloody annoying as i hate releasing fish when they are gut hooked

I always rig with 2 snelled circles chasing snapper. Either hook can hook the fish and it is really rare to gut hook (although it does still happen)

I suppose it is cheaper but I like knowing you cannot break it no matter what!The new catalinas come out soon so there still should be parts around for a while

I don't know actually. I've abused this thing and i haven't put a hole in it yet (touch wood). The handles are reinforced and it has a very sturdy rim.You could swing it around full of water all day and not break it :)Would be bloody handy if you were able to use it instead of a bucket on a boat

So i bought one of the last cheap ones of these the other day and I love it but for one thing....The cap that goes opposite to the side you run the handle is plastic. Everything on this reel is built to last but this one bit Is this a part you could order? I'd assume it would be the same size as the saltiga 4500 one.. So I want the metal one that comes with that. Eventually i'll get a new knob for it too as i prefer the round ones.Anyone else got one of these reels?

Just thought i'd throw this out there for anyone interested... I hate carrying buckets around so recently i 'converted' my camping folding kitchen sink to fishing So i'll never use it for washing again (was rarely used camping anyway)I bought it years ago and from what i remember it was pretty cheap. I've used it on a few trips now and it have proven to be very useful. Holds 10L of water and folds up small enough it fits in your pocket (packed size is about 4 inches x 3 inches). When full the water it is a bit over 4 inches deep but livies swim around quite happily as long as you don't overstock it. :dry: Handy for cleaning your catch and keeping it clean and is really good for storing livebaits on the boat and perfect for the same job on the rocks as well as defrosting baits. If that way inclined you could even mix up berley in it! It rinses out easily, weighs almost nothing and is a breeze to clean with no smells! Also handy as a sink for washing things :woohoo: The best thing.... You don't have to carry a bloody bucket!

haha i've seen spots where people have actually done that! As well as making flat spots to sit and fish with concrete.
