  1. Some great advice on this topic from a bunch of good bream bashers! I agree with with lot of it!Personally i always use suspending lures unless the terrain calls for a floating lure (deep water followed by snags to avoid). Sinkers in the depths of winter. But otherwise like the others its suspend all the way!Brent most lures are floating so you can 'tune' them to suspend or sink by changing trebbles, rings or with the use of sticky weight. Also most are Japanese lures sold here, and because our market is so small in comparison, often out local preferences are overlooked.Good to see ya onto the
  2. Thats $45.45 + $5 p$h for each series! We got em at Salisbury TackleWorld too $90 bucks for both series or $50 each.Yak!
  3. mate im not havin a dig. I keep a cuttly every now and again as i love to cook them in tomatos and chilli, and eat with pasta or crunchy bread, way better than southern calamaris!BUTAs u said the males die after spawning, so you should eat the females not the males. any males you catch have NOT HAD A CHANCE TO BREED OR THEY WOULD BE DEAD!!!
  4. 6" Gulp Camo worms work great on KGs. I have caught plenty, where bait fishing just does not work. Many of my customers also use natural and blood.I have got 'em on lures plenty of times, but one day locally, Fishing alongside my mate, he had goolwa cockles, I had the 6" Camos........he got 1, I got 12 and this was landbased KGs.Brooksey hit the nail in the head when he said they like it ripped and then allowed to sink to the bottom. Eventually what often happen is the whiting get switched on and will come to the surface in a few metres of water to out compete the other fish in the school!!!
  5. PM sent elv. We sure do have em. Best price in town too; I sent it to ya earlier today! If you come in we'll be more than happy to show ya a few options.Diawa make a Baitrunner, as do other brands. Also there are a few overhead reels that might suit. Once you have a good play u'll have a better idea what suits!! Yak
  6. yeah okay so it was a sludge land, but thats beacause it use to be the way the TORRENS connected with the PORT RIVER and it was disconnected...The port river is an extension of the torrens riverbed. SO first we destroyed it, Now we try to limit access and people say "well its better than when we destroyed it!"The key to all of it is to note that WE are responsible both for the wasteland it was, and for the CURRENT TREND OF RESTRICTION OF ACCESS! None of it was predetermined, nor is the future....
  7. ive got a fair few in spring on pink or green Baited Breaths, big fluffy ones work well. Also crazy charlies and Joe Gorhams yellow shrimp pattern too.More Natural presentations like Matukas or Nymphs are also worth a go, especially beadhead nymphs in deep water (i think the flashy bead helps), similarly the Black Matukas with Bright Highlights of Red, Green and Yellow seem to work, I have caught reddies on theses while fishing for trout.Hope that can be of some help Tony, But DONT ASK ME HOW TO TIE THEM...i have no idea!
  8. Now theres some really GOOD advice! These spots are ideal for Yackers, and Cape Elizabeth is something Rob and others have attempted before (i think). In victoria and QLD Yackfishing for Snapper is one of, if not the BIGGEST new growth area in recreational fishing, with many Snappr even landed on HardBodied lures! The stealth of the Yacks allows fishers to pull Snapper where the arival of a larger motor boat often spooks the fish. Remember that nice little red Kelvin caught a few hundred metres off of Glenelg! WHats more he lived to tell the tale!!! ;)Another spot well worth a try is between Ou
  9. Rob, Fishing from a Kayak is NOT SOMETHING you SHOULD DO.....EVER! It is stupid, difficult, not to mention dangerous, and if you fall in you will sink. BIG SHarks will attack Yakkers on Sight, as traditionally Kayaks make up a large part of the Great Whites' Diet! In fact did you know that every WHITE gutted in SA has had at least 1 Kayaker in its bellie, sometimes 2.Next time you ask for some assistance, do your homework and consider whether it is a good idea first! You shouldnt have to wait for others to tell you that the sport you chose is dangerous, unrealistic and downright dumb!Kayak fis
  10. Always good to see the big ones swim away so we catch them again and let them breed. Also it helps placate the residents' concerns about us fishing their pontoons and catching their pets!WELCOME Breamsy M. good to hear ya like the site, and hey no one's gonna begrudge you taking a few smaller legal bream home for the table, just remember that 20years+ in metro waters has gotta mean a fair dose of toxins are in each fish, only eat the SILVER ONES, if you want to grow as old as the fish ya eat !!
  11. they have pipis up there too. and the personal limit on many beaches is 20 per person! Just enough for immediate bait needs
  12. welcome to the site Tony! Dave here, good to see ya at Strike and Hook!
  13. Glad to hear its got ya fish and that ur enjoying it LL!
  14. although you may laugh, and it may not seem like it now, the advice that most streams that have water in Feb, have trout is actually the number 1 tip!Whatsmore it really lets the imagination run wild about whats in where (half the fun of trout fishing). No angler worth their salt is ever going to hand trout fishing to ya on a plate in SA. Its too hard and the waters are too limited, that said there are some great options, and once you scratch the surface u'll be surprised what ya find! Plus, Start catching a few and tounges might loosen a bit too!
  15. MulliesC, it seems to me that some people commenting on here just dont get it. They think that we are nasty to people when we are in fact courteous and would rather be friends with locals than enemies. Whatsmore they seem to think that our joke about giving false names, despite those names clearly being farcical, is somehow threatening and irresponsible. I think they should lighten up!Its a given that we should explain to residents that we are not going to cause trouble, but some on here clearly do not fish westlakes very often and really are MISSING THE POINT ABOUT COPPING ABUSE FOR NO FAULT
  16. .....well in that case welcome to the site Cheif Haki Huki....... im Yuri Yamamotto and its nice to make ur aquaintance! See ya out on the lake!
  17. Okay you do get my point that no matter what i (or others) do, when i next go, i am likely to cop abuse as part of my day out fishing. (unless a long thorough reonciliation occurs between anglers and owners) Point taken, but this does happen to me. Hell i live in bloody Hectorville, I wake up with people i dont know in my bedroom! And in the last few months i have had people on the run from the cops hiding in the parks bushes, bottles smashed, people fighting, people coupulating, letting of fireworks, you name it! BUT I Always treat each person with respect unlesss they do something they sho
  18. Yur Right Ranger, but you are also wrong.Ur right about looking from a residents perspective and to do un to others as you would....., however the point we were trying to raise has been missed somewhat... The value of houses around the lake came after the construction. It was not a million dollar suburb in the 70s or 80s or really even the 90s, it has become so, and fishing has always taken place there. (was not established as an exclusive suburb, hell at that time no one would have bought there for big big bucks)I live across from a park and I WANT TO FEEL SAFE. I DONT WANT LOUTS MAKING TROUB
  19. Good stuff. Thats the kind of experience most of us want. We are not there to drestroy the lake, or do do damage, we just want to enjoy the oudoors and catch a fish.I too am sick of people who yell at me or start telling me off, before i even get the chance to do the right thing. The other day. i was drifting along and just ahead a fella emerged from his house and threw scraps into the water to feed the bream. Naturally i gave the area widebirth and left him to watch the fish feed, its not about destroying the joy of others. Problem is like MulliesC said, people get angry before you do anything
  20. Nope not the same one Big Ian mentioned SAFWAA(SouthAustralianFreshWaterAnglersAssociation) and the club which i am also a member of. By sounds of the probation ect, it was actually a SAFFA (South Autralian Fly Fishers Association) member you were taking to! And it would be normal for their Trout dams to slow up in summer, especially as most are fished only landbased.SAFWAA has dams stocked with Trout but also Golden, Silver and Redfin Perch, Cod, Tandanus Catfish and even the odd Bass, so winter and summer both offer good flyfishing and spin options.Catch ya Yak!
  21. Pretty sure they are still good! Dont know who u were talking to! 20 dams all over the hills i dot think theyd all go bad at the same time!
  22. they'll have to swim out to me!
  23. as a loud mouth fool.... I must say, I bet KIMO is just bursting with excitement at these bylaws. bit of a coup eh? Will ya be out with the ruler?I'll i can say is bummer for the land-based fellas, especially all those who shelter under the bridges in winter. (though the 20m rule is old hat anyhow).Since the begining civilisation, bridges have been traditional access points to water for fishermen in the community?? and in many waterways are the ONLY access points. The fact that the 20m rule has been ignored of so long is testament to this convention. Where ya supposed to stand when it rains?
