  1. quite probably name def rings a bell
  2. Haha shouldve known it was common knowledge
  3. Can't remember where I learnt this... I think it might have been on tv a while ago, not sure. Anyway its a good tip for rigging up live bait that are going to get hit hard, good for Kingfish. Basically get a rubber band and loop it over the end of your hook. Then using a sewing needle, thread the other end of the rubber band through the front of the eyes of your live bait, avoiding their actual eyes but going through the socket. Then using the loop that's now hanging out the other side of the fishes eye socket, give it a twist and loop it back onto your hook. This isn't my own invented techniq
  4. Well I don't own many lures but in terms of squid jigs I lose TONSI lose a minimum of 1 per trip out but most days I'll lose 3-4.
  5. Just cut yourself and let the blood drip into the ocean :icon_lol:
  6. I dunno, I caught plenty of squid on my Kamikaze squid jigs...
  7. i just have a ruler on my tacklebox which is always right next to me anyway
  8. I forget the camera EVERY single time I go out. I just get too worked up about catching fish that it eludes me. I have often forgotten to take my tacklebox too, popping the rods in the car and heading off, only to realise after getting there I'd forgotten my tackle.
  9. Hoping to catch some tommies tonight and keep them alive until sunday. I will take photos of each step I take and post up how they do. I don't have any big containers unfortunately but hopefully all will work out to plan
  10. Even though it could only do smaller amounts I imagine a coffee grinder would also be able to do the job if the fish was cut into pieces before hand.
  11. yep, too muchI'd suggest catching some yourself they're fairly easy to catch, plus you can eat the rest or keep the entire thing for extra bait.
  12. Here's a tip for people that don't want to spend out on a berley bomb/bucket. Get a 2 Litre Bottle and put a heavy sinker in the bottom of it. Then put your berley into the bottle. Tie a rope to the top of the bottle after putting the lid on nice and tight. When you head out to use it, just stab some holes in the sides (not the bottom and not big enough to fit the sinker). It may sink slowly but it should work just as well It will slowly disperse the berley through the holes.
  13. everything seems against me trying to enter this comp. I usually manage to bring home at least 1 or 2 squid a day minimum but the past few days it just hasn't been happening, snagged jigs, snapped lines, birds nests, high winds, its all against me! I'm determined though
  14. hmm, not entirely sure about that. I've just read about a lot of ppl that make homemade squid jigs using it.
  15. wait so let me get this straightif i go on a holiday interstate I may not be able to go fishing without getting a licence first? :icon_e_surprised:
  16. I'd be too scared of one of my hooks puncturing the tube if i was in an inflatable
  17. should give them a coat of epoxy will help stop water getting into the actual lure itself
  18. you're crazy! I've been trying to catch as many cuttlefish as possible as their heads make the best snapper bait and their meat is just as good if not better then squid.
  19. Again, a lot of you will know this one and its one of the easiest recipes ever, but thats what I'm all about :icon_lol:This is great if you don't want to make too many dirty dishes and want it done quickly. Just prepare your squid meat however you like, strips, rings, squares, whatever you prefer. Score the meat then chuck it all into a bowl of lemon juice. I like to leave it for at least 10 minutes to soak in some of the lemon juice flavour. If you want your squid to be tender soak it in milk for 4+ hours before hand, rinse off all the milk then put it in the lemon juice.Get a pan and put it
  20. Ok this isn't an extravagant recipe or anything but its a handy one to know when supplies are low in the cupboard :)There are tons of Salt and Pepper Squid recipes floating around the net but I'm taking it back to basics and I've been surprised how many people overlook the simple ways of doing things sometimes. What you will need:MilkFlourSaltPepperOil (Canola or Olive, although Canola generally works better because it reaches a higher temperature)First of all clean and prepare all your squid meat however you like it. I normally have mine in strips but if you're a fan of rings, go for it. It re
  21. Definately gonna submit for this, I'm out squidding every day
  22. Hi Ranger I got your PM but I can't seem to reply, I click Send Message and it just reloads the page, tried it a million times it just does nothing. Anyway just to clear it up for those that are interested, yes I wrote this myself while bored in the middle of the night. Have learnt a lot from this site without contributing so felt it was only fair that I should contribute myself.
  23. Like I said, yes its a much more complicated issue if you want to keep them alive longer, but since most people will only be keeping them alive for days rather than months then this solution is fine.
  24. Hi guys, new here was referred by a FSA member, been reading lots of great info on this site so I"m sure to stick around here. Anyway as far as fishing goes I would probably call myself at best, a mediocre fisherman, one thing that I would call myself really good at however is keeping fish. We all know the best bait is fresh bait and you can't get much fresher than live bait so here's some info that I've learnt over the years for keeping your bait healthy and lively. First of all, if you are starting off with no equipment then you will need at the bare minimum a decent sized container (20L buc
