  1. Believe it or not but stainless steel does rust/corrode .Only 316 marine grade will hold rust off for ever , 304 and 302 stainless steel will rust and tarnish in salt water . If you have ever sharpened the knife with a grinding wheel that has had Mild steel ground on it , It may have transmitted some impurities onto the knife which is the rust not the actual blade material rusting .
  2. Carp herpes is only stage 1 of there plan , there still working on the daughter less carp plan as well ,but the daughter less carp program will take 30 yrs to see any effect . That's why herpes is plan 1 .
  3. Yep ,If we can only find a disease to cull this crop of latest useless politicians , well all be better off ,when it come's time to make decisions all they do is act like spoiled brat's .
  4. Yes I agree Cal ,Pyne is as weazly as a used car sales man ,But something must be done. How many year's have they had the save the murray fund and done sweet f all with it , lets try something at least , sitting around forming commitees has got no where .You could find someone to disagree with almost any plan , but then ask them for a solution and they shrug there shoulder's . How will it destroy fishing as in the article when no one eats carp ,In 5 year's there could be native fish stock's to catch without the bloody carp .
  5. That is fantastic view from above ,would make targeting a school much easier even without a line rigged to the drone .
  6. Agree 100% My aunty grew up at blanchetown ,her father was lock master .She recall's the water very clear as well b4 the carp ,at the moment it look's like a dirty duck pond .
  7. That is contaray to what I've been reading on this virus no nation or state in the world has PURPOSEFULLY introduced this virus into any waterway anywhere in the world,it has been trialled but not introduced into any river or waterway. If we do so we will be the first. Yes I agree Cal , my choice of wording may of caused some confusion on this ,what I meant by introduced into waterways was this wasn't done by an agency of csiro or another like it , It was they think by someone disposing of an ornamental carp into the river system in America anyway , from what Ive read it occurs
  8. The catch device at blanchtown has been there 7 year's and caught 250 ton of carp so far apparently so I think it would be in the thousand's the tons of carp in the river system .
  9. Could be , but the river is disgusting now so win win really .Even if you had to restock it would get rid of the dam carp .
  10. It's a naturally occurring disease that started in Asian countries discovered over ten year's ago and in the countries that have outbreak's in river's it has only killed the carp , as said it is a species specific disease that only can be caught by carp ,no other fish in the river's that it has been introduced have been found dead .
  11. Just read that release date is 2018 there trying to plan what to do with dead carp recovery to stop the smell and pollutant , that's all that's holding it back apparently .
  12. From what Ive read it is a species specific strain that is already in a lot of waterway's throughout America and some Asian countries with no harm whatsoever to other species or transmition to animals or human's . It's only carp and the kai ornamental carp that are prone to this disease that's why there so confident in it , they have been trialing it for ten year's around the world with great success , have a look on you tube . 80 - 100% death within 24hrs of release .
  13. HAHA squirrel on a stick , sounds like something they would have at a fair in the south instead of dippy dogs .
  14. Just reading the news that there going to release herpes into carp to try to eradicate them all from the river system's ,after googling some info it has an almost 100% kill rate , should clean the river's muddy look and clear up the water some .
  15. Thank's outandabout , Just watched some Malcolm Florence . I forgot about the Leyland brothers Tinker ,Used to watch them religiously like most aussie's , Alby Mangels wasn't a fishing show as such more of an Ocean Vagabond type deal . Most of the current crop of fishing shows seem to all be in Pt Philip bay or some exotic fishing destination that most couldn't afford to do , so I watch a lot of youtube home fishing video's that people put up or older stuff .
  16. Been a bit bored lately home bound and been watching some shows that I loved as a kid , Shows like world safari aka Alby mangel's ,Malcolm Douglas and later on old Rexy hunt in small doses among others , so did anybody else watch these or got there own favourite's that I missed . Mike
  17. I didn't expect, nor do I believe that I should have expected some people to jump to these erroneous conclusions. It was just a question. Anyone who finds comfort in fishing, shouldn't feel threatened when questioned about the morality of it -- this may have caused them to draw conclusions about my motives, rather than simply answering what they personally think about the question itself. Are you serious , Your'e university educated and you could not perceive that you're question you posted on a fishing forum would not get the reaction it got ,especially you're first post . No of
  18. Id ask them If they have read the new's lately . My second question would be ,Is this the moral stance you want to pick to stand on a soap box about with everything else going on in the world . Maybe I don't understand you're question or motive's . Very strange first post .
  19. I use a basic patanosta with bread as bait my 5 yr old caught 13 in two day's last time were up at mannum , the old Scottish guy fishing next to him was not impressed see'ing he caught 0 in same spot over the two day's ,Im hoping it continues when we get him on the whiting .
  20. Carp didn't get banned with the land based animals and is still available at tackle shops. And you're right it is a great crab bait Cheers Yorky That's good news Yorky ,It disappeared for a while around the time the meat and chicken ban came in .We used to buy it at st Kilda but they told us it was no longer available , it was almost 15 years ago now tho so maybe my memory is a little off . I will be using it again for sure now tho . About the only use for em anyway . Mike
  21. Use to use carp all the time with great success way better than other bait's Ive tried ,you could buy it at tackle store's in pack's like tommies but I believe they banned its use along with red meat from what I remember .
  22. As said they can take some practice but once learned you'll be happy with them ,I used to set mine up by attaching sinker and bait ,raise rod tip in the air , say 8ft off ground/deck release spool and let drop to ground and adjust cast control until the spool turns 1-1.5 turns after hitting the ground without any thumb pressure on spool , then cast away with thumb pressure at point bait is about to contact water then let bait sink on it's own . You really need to adjust every time you cast until you have done it a while and get faster with you're thumb , different weight has a huge d
  23. What a stunning endorsement for marriage ,not .Guy need's to grow some ball's or at least retrieve his from his wife's purse .
  24. Use a scaling bag. Remove the head, cut about off about 1 cm above the bottom of the tube then tow behind the boat for a couple of minutes at 15 knots. They come out clean as a whistle. I've heard this but not tried it yet, now if their was only some sure fire way of beheading and removing the feather without busting the ink sack I'd be even more pleased...Squid is a pita to clean Nice squid there , how long do they keep for . SeaSeacol I lay mine on there back this opens the tube a bit slide my knife in keeping it well high in the tube and not too deep on the blad
