  1. Call into Bitewell tackle shop across the road from the Pub near the Buffalo and speak to Paul... he always knows what's biting where along the local shoreline
  2. velly funny! it sounds like a good contender for this site :icon_e_surprised:http://www.engrish.com/
  3. :icon_e_surprised:Geez! VB that looks nasty. I hope you heal up nicely
  4. I just phoned Fisheries and spoke to an officer and a half eaten fish is regarded as part of your bag limit if what you have is over 38 cm
  5. Tony, are you implying that you can only take whole fish legally and not half a fish. I guess it would need to be intact so as to be certain the fish you took was over the legal limit in the first place. CK, snapper do spook easy most of the time even when you lose a fish on a bust off so I wouldn't be tempted to chuck them back over the side on a snapper spot but seeing you release undersize fish back into the water on the same spot asap maybe it is something that has to be done if it is in the confines of the law to do so
  6. I've been wondering lately as I've seen the odd shark lately when snapper fishing, what you do when you pull in a snapper and a shark has bitten off most of the fish but what remains of the head is greater than 38cm which is the legal size..... Do you count what's left as a legal fish and include it in your bag limit or do you chuck what's left back into the sea and try again. To my way of thinking if it is 38 cm then it is in your bag limit and is deemed a keeper. What are others views on this..
  7. I'm thinking of breaking the banana superstition when I hit the snapper next time...... A banana skin could resemble a squidhead if I split each skin into halves again to make them look like tentacles and then chuck the lot on my 7/0 hook. I reckon it'll work
  8. If you stuck your head in the bag of sawdust it smelt just like a winery cellar full of casks. I can't say the smoked fish tasted like wine but there was a very nice flavour about the flesh
  9. Sorry Tony, I was in a hurry to cook dinner and went straight to the video
  10. Thanks fellas' for your input :)Tony, that's a bonzer looking sharpener :icon_e_surprised:Where and how much are they?
  11. How and what do you blokes use to sharpen knives?I normally polish mine to a razor edge on a buffing wheel but out in the boat I use a swiss combo star.I'm interested in seeing how others go about sharpening their knives
  12. I was lucky enough to score a bit of sawdust from old oak wine casks from Tyke that Angler's Choice are now selling and tried it out on my smoked snapper. It's the best tasting smoked fish I've had yet... give it a try
  13. Jagger I love taking people out fishing as the big smile on their faces when they pull in a fish always makes it worth the while but unfortunately local spots are closely guarded. The best advice I can pass on is that between all of the ramps such as Nth Haven, West Beach and O'Sullies there are areas where there is very little boating activity. For example most boats might might only venture upto 10 km from each ramp... it's in these "voids" that it is worthwhile searching for new virgin territory and with the latest electronics you shouldn't have too much trouble finding good bottom that hol
  14. It was too nice a day to be stuck at work so it didn't take much to persuade myself to "do the bolt" and shoot thru' from work at 10.30 am and go fishing. We ended up with this haul but my mate lost 3 big snapper and a shark at the side of the boat. It was a top day just being out on the water
  15. My Fenwick Pacific Jig Stick is still going strong after 25 odd years. I just had a look and there is a label on it saying Penn Fenwick.... maybe search along the lines of Penn Fenwick, it's always a shot
  16. I took some mates out fishing at lunchtime on monday and we bagged out on bigs (6 fish) as soon as we got there and headed for home. Took another mate out the next morning on tuesday and we bagged out on bigs and smalls... there's a few mates families enjoying fresh snapper this week ;)this is tuesdays catch
  17. AC... that first fish looks a good size.. keep the pics coming, it's always great seeing local fish being caught
  18. I took my old man fishing yesterday morning for snapper. I can't take him too far these days as he has a bad back and a pacemaker fitted so it has to be reasonably flat calm water to getout fishing. He was kept busy pulling in this lot of fish. It's good to share the time out on the water with family. Ended up bagging out with 10 below 60cm and 4 big fellas'... biggest went 16 poundand here's a nice pic of snapper holding up baitfish against the structure
  19. That's a nice haul there Brenton, it's great to see so many snapper holding along our local coastline at the moment
  20. Top stuff Tyke :)I'm smoking some snapper later this arvo using some WA Sheoak sawdust I bought from Anglers Choice this arvo
  21. Nothing wrong with the bagged squid heads.... I bagout on snapper each week using them and those from this site that come with me will vouch the sameI bought a couple of packs last week and got charged $9.80 a pack but I reckon that is on the dear side. If you want to use the heads for snapper your best to leave them out of the fridge for awhile so they get a bit stinky and full of flavour and give the fish a chance to swallow the head before striking or you'll pull the hooks
  22. I was fishing a few km out off Marineland with my old man and a seal jumped up on the transom rear deck... scared the crap out of us :icon_e_surprised: We think it may have been a friendly seal from Marineland
  23. You could always join the local Ardrossan Sea Searchers Fishing and Boating Club of which I'm a member for $25 and receive a bundle of local GPS plots for both snapper and whiting spots that do work. PO Box 119 Ardrossan 5571 08 88373702It's good "peace of mind" whilst you're there to radio call in as a member each day you launch and they will keep tabs on you for the day and tow you in should you get into difficulty
  24. Well at least that'll keep the Euro Wasps away :icon_e_surprised: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:
