  1. As far as I'm concerned Carp is crap. On a hunting trip I did however try it smoked. One fillet brined, the other salted, and I must say it was palatable done in this fashion.....we were dirty and hungry at the time though, which may have affected my perception.I was just watching a cooking/lifestyle programme on channel 44, where they caught, prepared and cooked a carp. I have no idea what it would be like, but I thought I'd share it with you for anyone game to try it.Carp bled immediately after capture.Filletted leaving ribcage intact (fillets are quite small given the size of fish).Left in
  2. It's hard to find a good poodle burger..............thanks for the tip!

    winds

Offshore winds always provide the calmest conditions. SE-NENorwesterlies can get pretty uncomfortable, and a SW is generally an indication of more weather coming. In your Quinnie, winds up to about 15 knots (any direction), and seas to 1.0 will be fine....always keep in mind that wind gusts can be up to 40% stronger than predictions.Sometimes you will even find conditions better and waters calmer as you get out into deeper water. For beginners and smaller tinnies, always look for under 10 knots and seas under 0.5m.As for the fishing. Always good after a blow which stirs things up. Apart from th
  4. Mine is barely suitable as a livebait! And he hates the kayak too, coz he gets a wet bum sittin in the back!
  5. Try South Oz Rods: http://www.southozrods.com.au/
  6. Be wary of those cheaper ones Mick! Check the payload rating, as you can find some of them are only suitable for kids, but when you add the weight of two adults and a bit of gear, they are then overloaded and unstable (if they still float at all). Also with ebay, be aware of freight charges and get quotes from a few different trucking companies! I had a kayak transported from Sydney, and it cost me $440 in freight.
  7. Keep your eye on the AKFF (Australian Kayak Fishing Forum) website, and of course here.2 man kayaks are not as popular or as widely used as single, so you may have some difficulty finding something suitable secondhand in Adelaide. Also have a chat with Binks Marine (local Hobie Dealer) and Adelaide canoe Works, as they may be aware of local secondhand purchases.Good kayaks dont come cheap though, and for something decent secondhand, I think you'd still be hard pushed to get change from about $1500+.
  8. Thinking back to when I used to fish from the rocks, I cant say that I ever had any problems finding a crevice or hole to support my rod.For the protection of the reel if necessary, an old cloth/hand towel can always be placed between it and the rock.Walking on the rocks I always like to limit the amount of gear I carry.
  9. Fair call, and it will be done! For any who may be offended, feel free to turn the volume down!Well done guys, I hope there's many more to come!
  10. OK, so I'll take it from that reply that you ARE just a concerned and interested fisherman with NO political affiliation, NO seat on ANY association, group, body, or business, and NO agenda to push, other than a concerned citizens outrage at what he sees around him. That's all I wanted to know, and I wanted to know for the benefit of all members here......that's my job as an administrator on this forum (I get to look out for everyone, ensure the playing field is level, and the cards aren't stacked).....cant have someone with an obvious political agenda sneaking in here disguised as a fisherman
  11. But it has been proven that fish DO respond to external stimuli, so if the water was heated they most certainly WILL exhibit a response to this whether they feel pain or not, and I feel pretty certain all these doctors would have considered this little experiment, an experiment which has already been seen many many times by people immersing live shellfish (crabs, crayfish, yabbies, etc) into hot water for cooking.http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=4723Medical Definition: Of course the brain must also have the required "structures" to experience the physical ponent. As for
  12. Dr Rose's report: Dr Nordgren: Dr Victoria Braithwaite: Dr Lynne Sneddon: There are many more I could quote, but this is enough to make it pretty clear. They don't all bandy words around or all use the wrong word, so I think they ALL make it pretty clear, that the issue is NOT whether they can process it intellectually and emotionally as higher creatures can. They are discussing the physical "feeling" and "pain experience" and the presence or absence of the structures required in the brain (cortex, neocortex, neural systems) to be able to feel/experience pain. The Australian Museums stance: It
  13. EXACTLY!!!!!!Whether they feel pain is obvious.....TBTB, you are really starting to confuse me! Maybe we can clear this up!You started this thread, claiming you will send the report from Dr Rose to PETA to show them the truth, as they are not big on facts! The report clearly states fish CANNOT feel pain, and here is that truth you claim, directly from the summary and conclusions of that report, which you will be sending PETA: Clearly stated, fish have NO conscious awareness of pain, and they lack the structures for conscious awareness of pain, and the author couldn't have made that clearer....
  14. Sunline is good stuff. Can't comment on Power Pro, coz I've never used it.
  15. If it's only a backing it doesn't matter what you use as it will never see the light of day and is only there to hold your topshot close to the lip of the spool for casting purposes and to stop the braid slipping on the spool. However, if you believe you will be completely spooled of braid and also get down to the backing, then either use something of equivalent or greater breaking strain to the braid (10-12lb mono).
  16. I am not a religious person. Instead I place my faith in facts' date=' science and tangible evidence. Are you trying to shake my belief and destroy everything I hold dear and sacred? [img']http://farm1.static.flickr.com/216/465933049_446d1da6ca.jpg[/img]I need to go have a bex and a lie down now, as even though my therapy is finally over, I feel the need to start cutting myself again!
  17. True. There are' date=' however, the vehicles of cherry-picking, "advantageous" statistical analysis, "convenient" sampling methodologies, subtle wordsmithing, even repeated utterings of the "consensus" word [i'][ring a bell with anyone here re current SA matters?][/i], which could reinforce a meme without actually telling any "lies", as such... Yes, I will concede that, but once again, while standing up for researchers, you wont find that sort of thing in their reports. Reports which have to stand up to scrutiny, and require viable statistic and sampling techniques, accounting for variables
  18. I wouldn't think so!Sure having a vested interest in something would want a desirable outcome, but regardless of who is funding research, these researchers put their name and their credibility to their work and their findings. They then publish their results, and are put to scrutiny by their peers all around the world. No professional with a doctorate who has studied for a lifetime wants to be condemned, no professional would put themselves or their credibility on the line to falsify results or make up stories to suit their funder, as the final outcome would be condemnation, loss of credibilit
  19. Further, I have just found something I posted on this website quite some time ago: As mentioned previously, in response to this post when questioned on the subject, I found the majority of our responding site members believed that fish DO feel pain. Are they correct or wrong..........I dunno, we all need to make our own minds up on that one!
  20. My own "PERSONAL" view is that although fish respond to external stimuli, they are not equipped with the required anatomical structures to feel pain in the manner that we know it. Having said that, remember that I am uneducated on the matter, so am merely basing my own conclussions on what I have read (and I have read extensively on the subject). YOUR opinion may be far different, and at this point in time, neither of us can be considered wrong!I also believe this disagreement and research is a reason why fish are exempt from the prevention of cruelty to animal act. ie: How can you be cruel to
  21. Hey, speaking of kids, I've seen them!I don't respect them as fellow beings because they take away the joy and love of living while causing needless pain and harassment to parents.I'd like to call them land puppies! When does open season start?
  22. I've tried it.........tastes fine!
