Yep im with ya. Have been using an old sonar tip for a boat rod and lurve it to bits. Coz i liked it so much thought i would get a muscle tip, and rate that as well.Plus i love a good bargain!!

Bugger this weather, I was gonna let the kids take me fishing for fathers day!! Oh well, a three year old is no good on anchor duty anyway!I see that flows are going into the Onk. Is this weather good for u guys that fish the rivers? Does it stir things up or is it a bit too much at the moment?Just curious

Used these a lot as a kid at Elliston. Was good to dig a few up and then catch some kgw in front of the shacks. Tommies go em for sure, and I reckon a few fish would have go at worms threaded on ur hook. Spog has pointed u in the right direction. I would look at areas with established weed beds and get digging!!!

Haven't used the sustain, but ive got an 8000fi stradic and i love it. Appart from a daiwa tierra the stradic is the only reel ive spent good money on, and i love how it feels compared to my cheaper reels.Like others have said i think either reel would keep you smiling

Howdy, dug up this thread while searching about the 4500h. Was wondering if anyone had more info on them? Im looking at a reel for casting and bottom bashing, and the saltist seemed to fit the bill. Reading this made things a bit less certain.This would be my most expensive fishing purchase, so i dont want to stuff up. Maybe being used to lower end gear i might be super impressed with the saltist.Any new info would be very handyCheers

Gday, was wondering if anyone had used or has an opinion on these dropshot diablo rods.Looking at the 7'ft 2-4kg to mainly use for shore casting sp and a bit of bait at whiting, and maybe a few flathead. Will be matched up with a 2500 size reel. Can pick one up for $100, which is a good price, but dont know much about the rod. Im guessing at that price it would be a better buy than something like the starlo stix range???cheers in advance for any help

A big reason i like reading these forums(and asking a few silly questions!) is that im a bit isolated. Today though, found me in Lincoln, so i could go into a tackleshop for a look around.I ended up with the Starlo Stix shore spin 5-10kg. So its funny i ended up with what was suggested!!! G'Day all. I'm in the market for a smaller surf rod to match up with a 4000 size spin reel running braid. This will mainly be used for casting poppers and lures at salmon.Looking for something that will get some distance on the lighter lures, but still handle the heavier lures and hopefully some big fish!!Not too sure if graphite or glass would be better. Think a two peice will be more practical, but if a one peice is the better rod I will go that way. I think my lovely wife is capping the budget at $200!!!So basically I'm fairly open to any input on style or brands. Cheers

Would love to pull in a 13kg kingy on it!!!!Have done some lighter fishing(whiting, st's)on the reel, but is good to know i can load up the other spool with some heavier braid and give it a go. The sad flipside is this makes it harder to justify buying a new reel!!Thanks for the info Ben. Think i just have to push a button to give you karma, so hopefully that works.Cheers

Gday all. I have a Shimano Nexave 4000fb reel and no paperwork to go with it. All i can find about it on the net comes from overseas. Im guessing they are similar to a Sienna? Has same retrieve ratio and line capacity. Was wondering if anyone had used, or know of them. Would mostly like to know the drag details and if i could use this for sp fishing snapper(when i get on the water again!!)Any help would be appreciated.Cheers

I have to agree with the earlier posts, fireline is a good cheaper braid for lighter stuff. Have always used it on my whiting gear, and never had much trouble with knots. It does fade and look a bit ratty after a while, but is good value! I think the old man uses heaver pound fireline on his snapper rod and is pretty happy with it as well. I have just bought 6lb spiderwire braid that is brilliant, and casts a mile. Can`t remember exactly what its called, will have to try and find the box!!!

G`day everyone, this is my first post so i hope i push the right buttons!!I have recently bought my first graphite rod, it's a 7ft Shimano with line wieght of 4-8kg. After using Ugly Stik type rods all my life I was a bit worried that i might fish too aggressive. I tend to "high stick" the rod, and have been known to nearly rip a fishes head off when setting hooks!!Will be using this rod for everything from tommies off the jetty, flicking plastics and bottom bashing for some hopefully decent sized reds. Don't know if im just being a bit paranoid so any tips on rod use and lifting a catch into
