  1. Well said mate- a pioneer in the development of much of the tackle we use today. Condolences to his family and friends.
  2. Mulloway for sure, so much more of a challenge to consistently land the big fish than cracking a big red. A 50lb plus fish straight from the water is one of the best looking fish you can lay your eyes on whether straight from a surf beach or dragged over the side of your tinny in the port. In my book mulloway are a far superior table fish as well, even the real big ones taste great unlike a big snapper which can be a tad dry although I do still enjoy eating the odd red.
  3. Just remember guys to make sure your rod is secured in a good holder whilst fishing in gear (can be hard in land based possies like westlakes, onka etc.)- otherwise it could become a costly experiment. Jack i hope that your quest to nail the big one goes well every little bit of informastion helped me in the early years and you soon come to realise that you never stop learning.
  4. Have used circle hooks for mulloway and have had an exceptional hookup rate by just pinning the fish through the lip with a single hook- no stinger necessary. I now fish for mulloway with my reels set in gear and find that the fish pretty much hook themselves (providing your rod holders are strong enough)this includes fish taken from surf beaches and from the boat in the port river. Remember a mulloway doesnt have hands to 'play' with a bait if it hits a bait, it's hit it with its mouth. I used to miss a lot of fish that 'dropped' the bait after allowing the fish to run for a while in freespoo
  5. Fair call daiwa but a lot of dud trips came before that... reckon i deserved an easy one! As for the rigging up- that was pure genius have to show them something they havnt seen before hahaha!
  6. Gary i know i've said it before- keep trying and one day it will happen! Just have to be in the right place at the right time, see you out there!
  7. Nice fish there Gary- can sense a 50lb fish is just around the corner!
  8. This doesnt only happen in the eastern states guys, seen it first hand on the beach down from the murray mouth on quite a few occasions over the years. Same as one of the other posts though these guys aren't breaking the law, makes you wonder about some of the decisions made in fisheries management if this is what sustainable fishing is all about!
