  1. What have you been using for bait? Corn? I think i know the area, i was in the noarlunga downs area tonight above the ponds and i could see the one you mean. We are going to take a day trip to the goolwa wharf on saturday and have a fish sometime in the arvo, depending on how we go i will hit the pond one night next week, i'll let you know and thanks again
  2. Thanks, that was where i was thinking.
  3. Howdy all,I was just wondering in your opinion where i would be likely to catch a carp or a few of them? We have fished off the goolwa wharf before the last drought and got a few and the bloke from the seafood shop on beach rd reckons the dam off to the left of the cove rd at hallett cove produces a few, we didnt get any though. Is the torrens around the city a good spot? I would like to take the kids to get some crab bait. We are down south around morphett vale.
  4. Bloody powerful them waves are  I had my legs taken from under me recently, still got a sore back :pinch:
  5. Tony, when we were down there just recently the water temp was excellent. I would say 21+ it gets colder after christmas, say from march on.
  6. Call into woolworths liquor at goolwa they had a bag of 5 kilo ice for $2.99, one bag should be enough.
  7. Bag of ice (Keeping them cool ) is all you need to keep them alive, they last up to a week or so in the fridge has been my experience, nothing like fising for whiting with live cockles, but can be a prick to open
  8. G'day mate, if you are getting sand it just means you are not purging the cockles long enough or properly.
  9. I split the shells in half, i don't crush them
  10. I can vouch for ranger and his cockles Christmas a couple of years ago we threw him and Mel the mussels and said here cook these When we cook our cockles, We prepare some garlic in the fry pan/wok by just browning it in a little extra virgin olive oil to release the aroma, add the cockles, dry white wine, chilli flakes and chopped spring onions, cover and simmer until the cockles open. Wella your done! Discard any cockles that don't open (we freeze them and return them to berley) As a matter of fact we keep all our wine soaked cockle shells and berley up next time on the whiting grounds, b
  11. I agree and we must learn to compromise or this little verse becomes so much truer.People say you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Truth is you you knew what you had, you just never thought you'd lose it!
  12. Its ok pikk0n there are plenty there, plenty!
  13. I found it very hard to believe that there would be that many down there as in other years we walk about 500 metres from the car before we get anywhere near our limit. Well i had a rdo off today so spent the weekend down at deep creek (my second home) and today we came home through goolwa to see if all these cockles were true.Between 4 of us (wife and 2 kids) we picked up 1200 in 45 minutes without even venturing more than 5 metres from the where the car was parked. We just parked and walked straight to the water and bagged on huge cockles. I would almost encourage a closure like we had last y
  14. Very funny Del Around 12 month life span.
  15. Too late fishie - Me thinks me might morp about now lol
  16. Sorry guys I just rang my mate and he got it yesterday from his brother, seems it was caught well and truly before the closure and kept alive by processors at Mt Gambier/Robe.Sheeesh seems one has to be so careful what they say ey? Now i am going to enjoy it
  17. Lofty i agree with you 100% I was so surprised mate he could have told me he found it crawling in the maccas car park and would have told everyone that. I have never had such a generous thing happen to me before that i was beside myself. I have never caught one myself so have no idea about when the closed season is. They certainly are a unique creature, being able to live out of water like that? :S
  18. Well i thought he said he got it yesterday? Could mean anything i suppose maybe he got it yesterday, didn't ask him? How long do they live out of water? Maybe it was caught prior to closure and kept alive? I dunno  I was just surprised to get it and wasn't asking any questions, knowing the fella who gave it to me it certainly would not have been caught illegally.
  19. Howdy Strikehook members I miss a couple of phone calls on the mobile this morning so i return the missed calls. It was a mate of mind asking me if i can meet him at the Maccas at reynella car park at 11.00am? As it so happens i had to go wash the school buses today so i agreed that would be fine as it is on the way. When i rock up, here he is with a large foam box and what happens to be in there? A Bloody 2 kilo Live crayfish :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Day like these
  20. A favourite of ours is steamed dim sims/cold fried dim sims, thermos hot dogs or bbq snags. Sausage rolls are awesome too, home made.
  21. Good advise, but would like to add, that the steak should be room temprature. Oil the steak not the grill.
