  1. Thanks Colin. I went to Bunning to get some clear tubing today. Of course the tubing is a bit stiff and it will hug the inner stem of the float but at the pointy end it wont actually grip as the float tip narrows down. I suppose tackle places would have the appropriate tubing.
  2. I've only ever used a Surgeons End Loop for everything. Simple and easy for me and never had a problem (otherwise would use another). Only just recently have I also have just started tying my own hooks on using the Improved Clinch Knot and no problem yet.
  3. Thanks for your detailed info and drawing. The drawing is how I have mine set up (except for the plastic tubing, but will get some and only 1 hook) and been using the feeder float shown at the bottom. I have trouble with the leader wrapping around the float when it flies through the air, so will put the plastic tubing on anyway and see if it helps. Also a couple of other suggestings from other above I'll try also and see which one performs the best for me. Thanks all for your advice
  4. Yeah you're right Knackers. I was just putting it our there to show how can these be wrong/different when they all get them from BOM as you say. I used to look at WW but not anymore, jus BOM.
  5. So you're meaning away from the traditional float setup to float right at the end of leader and hooks between float and main line. main line > swivel > leader with hook(s) > float Interesting, and I can see that working to stop tangles. The only thing I'm thinking, is the main line swivel and hooks would create a bit of curve (sort of like a U shape but not as much) and wondering if that would cause any issues - though possibly not as the main line would be a little taut to the rod.
  6. Yep that makes sense. But I wouldn't have thought the weight of the slit shot/hook/bait would be enough to drag the line through the float holes - but something I could try anyway and hopefully reduce so many tangles. on casts. Thanks Plankton. Yep, I do that projoe. The tangling is happening when whilst float is in the air, so before it has hit the water the problem has already occurred.
  7. ok, how do I overcome this? I'm using 6lb mono for main line in which a plastic feeder float is attached and slit shot either side > down to swivel > to a 6lb fluoro leader with a couple of split shots and size 12 long shank. About 6 out of 10 overhead casts seem to tangle in the air. Float, being the heaviest, is leading the way and I can see the leader trailing behind and depending how the leader is trailing I can see 'oh that one tangled'. I pull it in and yep, tangled. I'm not doing anything different to the casts that do not tangle. I also stop the line when th
  8. Yep, accept all the above, and that C7 seems to use outer harbor as their tide/time numbers - hence the time difference. But for the rest of them, it should be the same. Winds, yes, they could effect things, but when they are 'predicting' a time for high tide and a height days, months etc in advance, then they should be the same. On the day in questions, if there is high winds, then yes maybe it can differ, but leading up to to the day it has to be the same. As said, no big deal with it all, just seemed odd.
  9. So, tomorrow I'll be fishing in the morning and watched the news weather for winds etc. But there are differences between C7 and other links. Channel 7 (metro waters) High tide 9.20am / 1.64 m Willy Weather (Pt Noarlunga) High tide 9.09am / 1.64 m BOM (Pt Noarlunga) High tide 9.00am / 1.4 m Tides4fishing (Pt Noarlunga) High tide 9.05am / 1.3 m ok, clutching at straws a little, as tides/times are not that far out, apart from C7 with a minimum 11 minutes 'out'. But only c7 and WW have the same tide height. It
  10. Bjorn mentions above that he and the guys tried Sheldons neon (yellow) gents - with success. I have seen them in tackle shops but this is their website and stockiest list - but whether they have the neon/yellow ones would be a matter of a visit/phone call. http://www.sheldonsbait.com.au/gents-maggots/ stockists - http://www.sheldonsbait.com.au/south-australia/
  11. Thanks Bjorn for the link. It seems to have paid off with those gents for the Yorkes trip. As mentioned above, I'll colour a few with yellow and also red as see what happens - will report on it once I get around to it.
  12. Cheers guys. Yeah as mentioned, just wondering if any are doing this. I reckon, say gar, will take any colour when they are hungry (if they can see colour of course). Might spray half of mine and see what happens along side non coloured.
  13. Just wondering if anyone goes to the effort of colouring gents / maggots when say fishing for gar (or anything else). If some fisho's use red or green plastic tubes by their hook to entice some fish to their bait (whether it works or not is another question), then why not with coloured gents/maggots. The white/cream gents/maggots stand out nicely in the water and certainly does the trick in catching gar/tommies etc. So has anyone tried / experimented with coloured gents/maggots.
  14. Great write up Alex and well done on another PB. Pity about the one that got a way, but pity about your camera Christmas is coming up (as long as you have been a good boy
  15. I caught a few beach worms a few weeks back and with the left overs after fishing I put half in a salt solution for a few minutes and the other half I sprayed lightly with wd 40 (as I didn't have any metho on hand). I pat dried them and froze. When used next, they were ok but nothing to write home about as far as toughening up etc. This is the first time I had tried doing this, so could have mixtures a little out of whack. Still got small bites from undersize fish on both baits. But, after catching more worms last Saturday and using them Monday, I had left part of a worm on the jetty
  16. Nice catches Hamo. Hope you had a few beers afterwards to ease all that pain
  17. Great detailed infomation Luke - thanks for taking the time to explain your knowledge. The links also have great information and I have certainly gained more knowledge as a result - which is the ultimate from this site and members. I certainly have been swayed to used to fluoro, and at this stage as a leader. So far I have recently tested it with a small session at Christies - no real catches of big fish but constant bites and release catches - now whether I would have had the same strike with mono, I wont know, but I feel the fluoro probably did its job. Only yesterday I removed
  18. I have no idea either no_idea, but if Alexsfishin1 sees this post, he could also give some good tips - he's a young kid, but he has a bream fishing brain. Or, if went up to the search and clicked on the wheel to go to advance search, highlight 'fishing forum' and next to match select 'title only' and put in his name under 'find author' and search. This should bring up his posts in which he talks of his catches but has some helpful tips (not all of them, but many). Hope that helps a little, otherwise more advice like projoe mentions will come here before too long I am sure.
  19. Thanks for the link Kuerschie. Yeah, don't want to have one that is toooo whippy but needs to be sensitive - like the Raider as AR1 mentioned. I'll have a look tomorrow as I need to go to BCF and swap over some fluro - picked 4lb instead of 6-8lb
  20. mmmm Interesting...can you let me know which place and what hills or pm me - thanks for the interest AR1 - appreciated. Thanks also Kuerschie for your info - do you have/work in a tackle down South? Something like this? http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Shimano-Fishquest-2014-Estuary-Combo-7-.aspx?pid=360487&menuFrom=30301#Recommendations
  21. Cheers HLS. I got the JW devil for the time being, so hopefully will do me well for the quality/price. If you don't mind, can you pm the info on those bits - I'll 'carefully' bring it up at the right moment with her Thanks for the info mate.
  22. Thanks UP. (Firstly, that link above seems to have now been removed by BCF, but it was a Abu Garcia Discovery Spin Combos 7'3' Graphite) As you say, I too will have to 'work' towards the higher end rods/reels, but at the moment I can't. So I will need deal with what I have and can afford. I keep mentioning to my wife the $ she could afford if she gives up smoking and what extra things she could buy for herself. So I have mentioned you to her as another example So good on you for giving it up and enjoy that Kayak when you get it - an excellent Christmas present for
  23. What about this one? http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Abu-Garcia-Discovery-Spin-Combos-7-3-3-6kg-2-Piece.aspx?pid=305949&menuFrom=30301#Recommendations It is graphite and if it regains its shape quickly and has a sensitive tip - maybe it is ok.
  24. Thanks AR1 for your detailed knowledge. That certainly makes sense and has also educated myself further in all the extra details that help hooking a fish or not and/or the casting distance. It might be best if I put some $ away for a while to get the better rod types. But thanks for explaining the differences, I appreciate it
