  1. There was another thread on this topic about 4 months ago - check out:http://www.strikehook.com/forum/5-general-fishing/115444-polarised-sunniesCheersarcherfish
  2. Moggy23Methinks you and I are both accessing the same reference book...Cheersarcherfish
  3. I'm calling it for a Bearded Cod...http://www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/WebPages/RPIO-4Y97RD?openCheersarcherfish
  4. Thanks, USSRI generally do, but a good "old school" booklet still does the trick as a handy back-up when the laptop or iPhone dies, there is no reception or a battery suddenly decides to give up the ghost.Regardless, I still think we're being ripped off...приветственные восклицанияarcherfish :cheer:
  5. G’day S&HersToday I picked up my copy of “2011 Tide Tables for South Australian Ports” from a friendly local tackle store not a million kilometres from Beach Road, Christies Beach.First thoughts were: “Aahh...that looks like a much more user-friendly size, compared to last year’s version...almost pocket-sized”. (For those that haven’t seen it, it’s now A6 instead of A5 - i.e. half its previous dimensions.)The publication itself is quite “schmick”, but a few things occurred to me after comparing it with the 2010 version:â€Â
  6. TroutaCheck this link from a previous "The Cook & The Chef" episode:http://www.abc.net.au/tv/cookandchef/txt/s1657517.htmHave also heard that purging your caught carp in clean freshwater for a day or two (e.g. in a bathtub) gets rid of the muddy taste (not sure of the legality of this though, seeing that they are noxious fish and "are not to be returned to the water").Also heard that soaking the fillets in milk, or stacking the fillets with sliced onion between them also tends to eliminate the "muddy" taste. If you're interested (and/or adventurous), PM me and I'll give you a few more recip
  7. Question...Why do bags of ice have a "Use By" or "Best Before" date on them? After all, they're just bloody lumps of frozen water aren't they?Just wondering...archerfish:unsure: P.S. Still reckon block ice is the way to go for a lot of applications. If I remember correctly, some of the icemakers used to add salt to the blocks to obtain a lower freezing point. If any S&Hers can enlighten me on this topic before I disappear in a Google frenzy, I would be most grateful!
  8. Spot on, Kelvin...snake, check out the "CONDITIONS for all boats" paragraph at the bottom of this web page:http://www.fishinglordhoweisland.com.au/thefleet.htmWas over there myself a few years back - it's a magical place (and it's only a 2 hour flight from either Sydney or Brisbane).See:http://www.lordhoweisland.info/Cheersarcherfish
  9. abfYou might also like to check out MBL on Churchill Road, Kilburn:http://www.mblsa.com.au/view/page/14/item/700084.htmlA little bit further out than Unley, for sure, but I think the price difference may make the extra journey more than worthwhile. Cheersarcherfish

  14. I think it's called "beginner's luck", Trouta...(although it's more likely that it's the "Fishing Gods" having a good old laugh at our expense). Cheersarcherfish
  15. This might be a bit of help for you as well, Ubolt:http://www.coffinbay.net/pdf/Coffin-Bay-Side2.pdfCheersaf
  16. Hi WaterboyMy copy actually has the price printed on the top right corner of it as part of a print run (no dodgy cover-up labels, or anything like that).Breamer Boy's comment about them only being available free in Tackle Shops to encourage patronage makes sense to me. Anyway, I'll check you out in late 2011 for my "Free" copy of Issue 3. Cheersarcherfish
  17. UboltHave you checked out this publication?http://www.boatingsa.com.au/launch_into_boating-sa_waters_atlas.aspCheersarcherfish
  18. G'day All S&HersFYI...Was down at Westfield Marion today and wandered into Campbells Newsagency. Picked up a copy (the last!) of the above magazine for the princely sum of $4.95. It's a publication from the "Fishing Monthly Group", based in Queensland. Have since found that you can access it via the 'net at:http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/ (It may chew up a bit of your monthly data allocation if you choose to download it, though.)Anyway it's a bit of heaven and soft po*n for confirmed tackle rats. Cheersarcherfish
  19. Memo to self: avoid the Seaford Tavern carpark at all costs...:S :S :S
  20. Just finished doin' all me Chrissie cards tonight with a view to postin' them tomorrow - then I suddenly thought, "Why not wish all those contributors on 'Strike & Hook' a Merry Christmas as well?". So, Merry Christmas, Guys (& Girls) - tight lines and excellent fishing experiences in 2011, and thanks for all your posts in 2010.Cheersarcherfish
  21. If all you shark fishos out there are serious about maintaining your existing rights, then start eMailing your concerns to the relevant Minister, Hon. Michael O'Brien.eMail address is as follows:minag@sa.gov.auCheersarcherfishPS Ch 10 report tonight was sensationalist bulls*it - they are obviously not aware that Bronzies are not man-eaters.
  22. G'day AllThought you might like to take a quick squiz at a couple of things mentioned in the latest "NAFA" magazine (20th anniversary issue):http://www.nafa.com.au/review/453.htmlalso:http://www.nafa.com.au/review/show/498.htmlThere is also a Youtube link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETHONG5hhkcCheersarcherfish
  23. A quick clarification, all...I started this topic as an "on the road" observation, not thinking it may have been an incentive to start a bit of interstate bagging. I respect people's right to fish in whichever State or Territory they wish to, as long as they observe local regulations and protocol.Nonetheless, a bit of friendly rivalry (with the emphasis on "friendly") probably won't hurt anybody! Tight lines, all - wherever you're fishing.Cheersarcherfish;)
  24. G'day AllDrove from Adelaide to Melbourne today - could not believe the number of vehicles (probably 3 dozen plus) with Vic Rego Plates towing some fairly serious fishing rigs and heading in a westerly direction. I might be missing something, but I'm not aware of any major fishing comp. happening in SA (or WA, for that matter!) ATM.Could it be that they're all heading over to take advantage of the lifting of the Snapper ban tomorrow?!!!Cheersarcherfish
