I was just saying he doesn't HAVE TO spend more than $100 dollars. When I bought that rod I was broke as. Had some fun with it and still am. The next rod I buy will be more than that, probably quite a bit more. But if you only have 100 to spend don't feel that bream fishing is out of your reach. Especially if you're starting out. And for the record, I wouldn't recomend buying fishing stuff from rays or kmart (even though I've just said I've done it). Especially if you don't know what you're looking at. I reckon you would be able to pick up something for $100. Especially if you're just starting out with lures and SP's. I bought a light rod from Kmart for $20 and a reel from rays outdoors for $8 for my first bream outfit. I have a better one now but don't catch anymore fish and it doesn't feel any better to use. And my old combo is still going and my mates quite often borrow it when we go fishing. I still use it a fair bit myself as I leave it in the car.

For how much it would cost you, and how long the rod will last if treated properly I would get a rod builder to do it. They would have all the right tools and I can't imagine it costing too much.

I've always thought (but not completely sure) that if any part of the cockle is more than 35mm across then its ok. That would normally (unless its a freak of nature) be from the two corners away from the hinge, if you imagine the cockle like a triangle. I hope that is clear enough explanation, it sounds good to me.

Then just everytime you are fishing for whiting hang a jag over the back of the boat. They normally hang around similar areas and so you should be able to catch enough to keep you going. Especially if your using them for whiting.

I've caught some redffin on some no-name lures off ebay but I don't think they are really picky.

In the end a couple came with us that isn't into fishing (wierd hey? ??? :icon_e_surprised: ???) So we ended up just going to westlakes and doing a lap of the island. Got 2 bream trolling around the island and had a nice day but the time is still at 1.5hr. My next outing will be on wednesday afternoon.

No no luck yet but I haven't been out since wednesday. Goin out tomoro on the yak to explore some of the creeks in barker inlet. Reckon If i've got any chance to get one local it'd be in there.

I was down there this morning and saw the sign. Didn't have too much info but its gonna cost 2.3 million ??? How can it cost that much for 2 pontoons and some cable?

Thanks man, I might have to go out and get some pumpkin seed ones. Notice I didn't say a legal bream? Thats because I know that you can easily spend 20 hours catching 100's of bream and not get a legal one. Especially if your fishing areas like west lakes or the onk. Thanks for the tips!

Inspired by the 100 hours to catch a mulloway (can't remember who it was) I've decided to do the same thing. Except I'm not that patient and my target is bream not mulloway and I think (hope) that it may be a bit easier.I went to the inlet of west lakes and walked around the eastern side. I started off with a powerbait grub thing, in motor oil. Got one or 2 hits but nothing hooked. After half an hour or so I changed to a storm twitching nipper. One of my mates has a bar fridge with 2 holes drilled in the side. A length of hose goes in one of the holes coils around inside then comes out the other. Water is then pumped through the hose to keep the water cool. A brilliant idea and he picked up the bar fridge for $50!I had a redfin in a tank But it became a victim of the latest heat wave. Pity because I thought it was the best aquarium fish i had.

Finatic. Thats the same idea as an anchor trolley commonly used by kayakers. Great because 9 times out of 10 you want to be stern into the wind but because of tide and wind you almost never seem to lay the way you want. Also hard when tide and wind coming fromsame direction to reach behind you and tie off your anchor.

A very welcome visitor whenever a school shows up. Very good bait live or dead. Just use a swivel and a 30cm leader to a single hook. Once you've got one fillet it and hang the carcass in the water. Very oily fish and the frame hanging in the water will keep them around until you run out of fillets, then just fillet the next one and repeat. Lightning fast and great fun on light tackle. Might make some enemies by saying this but pound for pound I think they're better than salmon.

Tako: yes they are pretty weighty for their size, a very good casting lure.

Check out K-marts for sure, plenty of them there. Not the smallest size though, which I like for cast retrieve fishing. But plenty of the middle and bigger sizes. Actually caught some flathead on the bigger ones befor so not just for fresh water.
