  1. The idea for this club was to give those people who wanted to tie flys to see close up how it was done. The "honoured few" 20 to 30 that you cater for was one of the first negative comments to come to light, no one was going to be "honoured few". If 50 people showed up so be it, but most venues only cater for a certain number of people & the one i had in mind would probably only suit about 50 people. another reason as to that number is that any one doing demos has quite a bit to deal with, at these quantitys of people. No2 I was trying to include a fly tying supplier to the mix, so that not
  2. had a close encounter myself some years ago cockling at goolwa, an eagle ray (not as heart pumping as a shark but got the adrenalin pumping abit) about 70kg decided to clean up the cockles that escaped me, i had flash go thru my head of a missing toe or finger. it hung around for about 30 mins while the tide came in, i was picking up those cockles at a much faster pace!!!!!

    lure clip

ok for metals used whole, might effect the action on small to medium hard bodys. with those small snaps i use a small (& i mean small) pair of needle point pliers to open & close em. use size 0 & 1 for my breamin hardbody luring. loop knots to loop on hardbodys would be the best option (i always take of those split rings, had'em cut into the mono or fluro in the past). just getting old & lazy using the clips.
  4. G'day Tony.I'll see if i can remember to bring into the next club meeting all the different scents (waxes, sprays & liquids) I've used over last couple of years & give you a run down on whats worked & what still to prove its self.
  5. G'day mik013.before taking the reel back to where u bought it, make sure all the bits are in the right place & in the correct order, that is if you have had it apart for servicing.make sure any bearing or washers under the spool are present, drag washers are in the correct order & seated.if all is present & correct look very closely at the spool rim, if it has any dings in the finish it could have had a knock at some stage, sometimes it might not feel like much but suprising how much damage can be done.
  6. g'day pete.another rod that has seviced my needs exceptionly is a Tica Crisp-x 66UL at 6'6" it packs quite a whollop when casting if that one a bit light or short the crisp-x 70XL(crisp-x have really thin solid graphite tips They are real sensertive to fish bites) 3-5 kilo is another great rod & i also see the duffman tournament series are still availaible at 6'10" & 7'6" these are excellent rods as well. A nice reel to match these rods is the tica spinfocus GT1000(6 ball bearing) Go to braid (fireline 6lb)(& like tony I like vanish flourocarbon for leader material) you'll cast fur
  7. G'day allJust been breezing thru the posts in this part of the forum & seeing some people experimenting with their own fly patterns on local fish species gave me a thought, why not see if we can get enough interest in a "fly tying club". Having tyed flies on a small commercial scale a few years ago & experimenting with lots of patterns myself i know how hard it can be to access materials etc, but if a group throw into gether, it might be possible to approach a supplier & access all the goodies. One thing that will need to be looked into is a venue, (preferable CBD or close to it) f
  8. its great to see the old abu brigade is not dead.many years ago owned quite a few abu's myself (even a abu 20 game reel, weighed a ton)still got a couple in the reel draw nothing like eddies casting specials, but good'ans all the same.my first abu 6500 was purchased in england for me when i was 17, still got it 36 years later& still like new. pity abu went to asia, spoilt the 7000. i went out & purposely purchased one of the last swedish models, 3 years old & not been used. i'm just a tackle junkie. even now i do breamin torno's still can't bring myself to sell the last 6.
  9. G'day 1fish i fish the onka alot on fly your 8/9wt will be more than enough to handle most schoolies i prefer to use a floating line myself. as for flies ive found smaller patterns tried on sz 4 or 2 mostly weighted to cope withany tide flow. a fluro leader of 10 to 12 pound (6 kilo) helps. most of my fish have come from the bottom of the tide when the fish are down deep & resting up near structure. i have tried at night for schoolies chasingbaitfish, hav'nt had the same success as daylight fishing. as for the surf I would try around the onka mouth & along the shore at pt nourlunga sou
  10. sorry to hear about adam boat. heres hoping adam gets her back before sabt/dec unscathed
  11. hey tony u know me & ive caught some mullet on fly most of have been caught while targeting bream on fly. one nice fish i did foul hook in the back was a jumping mullet of about 1 kilo but most are yellow eye mullet on my deeper dan pattern in the yellow colour. you could also try floating bread type patterns with some bread berley that little white moth pattern i sell at the club meetings might work as well.
  12. flies ive used with success in the past are red & black matuka, mrs simpson, or most minnow related patterns hook sizes from 10 to 6. retrieved in short 100mm strips back to the bank, let them sink every now & then
