  1. Ok had small pieces of bait on them this moring but no hits what so ever. But then again no hits on a rod setup for bait only either using various baits. I think Nev and I had a snapper all you can eat buffet going Dubs are these style of rig supposed to be fished in the normal baited hook type manner or are they supposed to be jigged?I will keep trying them but as snappering off the rocks is so hit and miss it will be hard to verify if they actually work or not. Can only try I guess. And trust me if they do happen to work you guys will be the first to know
  2. I think the pe rating is weight related and either 10 or 12 lb line is pe 1. Thats what I can gather from looking at the line ratings from some manufacturers. I am sure I saw 6lb rated as .5 pe so 12lb would be pe1 and 18lb would be pe 1.5 and 24lb is pe 2.Well thats me putting 2 and 2 together. Hopefully I didnt come up with 5
  3. Ok They didnt catch me a snapper this morning but they may have stopped me losing hooks. Used 1 rod with our standard twin hook rig and one with the home made snatcher/flasher. Lost the usual sinkers and also lost 1 half a twin hook rig and 1 complete rig, swapped to another snatcher and didnt lose any hooks at all after that.  very unusual.More testing required
  4. Mmmm. Thanks fishie. Maybe the extra visual attractant worked that day?? Or maybe your hook just happened to be closer to that snapper as it was on its way through?? Definitely need more anecdotal evidence
  5. Will actually try the home mades from the rocks just to see if there is an improvement in catch rate Who knows . How good is a fishes eye sight If these dont work I might have to pay some local divers to place snapper on the hooks for me

  7. Its taken me a little bit to get back into the swing of the alvey but gettin there. Must admit am enjoying using it though. Just something about them.............
  8. Has anyone got any experience with Snapper snatchers, Flashers or whatever other names they come up with for these things. Thought I would have a go at makin my own with a little bit of a variation.Snapper Flasher or similar nameSaw this siliconey type of tubing so thought I'd give it a go and see what happens.
  9. Maybe they didnt see us Snaps No lessons required...........Each cast gettin better. 3 More casts and I reckon there would have been a couple of ounces of lead puncturing that hull
  10. Max has been christened. Went for an early morning session with Snapperhead at Black Point. Slight northerly blowing and crystal clear water. Definitely not snapper weather but thought we may as well wet a line any way. After rigging up and casting we sat for a good half hour with out even a shitty sucking on our baits, so a wind in bait check and out we go again. Another 20 mins or so There were some smallish taps on the end of Max After a few quick retrieves on the Alvey Something was hooked but felt tiny even feeling like I had dropped it at one stage. Pulled up onto the rocks was a 37cm s
  11. Great pics and obviously a top trip. Well done for keeping everyone happy
  12. Not a nice thing to happen at all Mr Keen. Glad the family is unharmed though. At least you realised you were under prepared before you started your journey so that is one small plus for you. Good luck on the next planned assualt on salt creek.
  13. Umm its fishing. Theres no surefire way for anything Good luck though
  14. That was an excellent post Mr Willy, Great pics. Very interesting to see how the lures are made and painted.
  15. Dont know how good it is yet fushlups but I have a starlo stix rod with an abu 6500 c3. 20lb braid. Gonna use soft plastics but I reckon it would still be suitable for bait.My last OH combo was overkill too. Penn 220gto on a penn seaboy 10-15kg rod
  16. Thanx 4 all the replies guys. Yeah its a crakin rod. 650c5 Alvey goin on so those snapper have no chance Its definitely a bit of overkill for snapper but there will be some trips planned to make better use of "Max" Hmm flag on the end ey. How bout a sign too for Long Load

  19. Yeah Shaggin I am very happy with the end result. He knows his stuff thats for sure.I knew 14'9" would be long but geez
  20. Woo hoo. Its here. 177 inches of pure fish stopping power. A South Oz Rods master piece. Will be taking it out this week once I get my days off. Although I think a day of practice casting is on the cards, this is one hell of a lot of rod. I am glad I stuck with this blank as I was extremely tempted to have Rob build me up the last Snyderglas blank that he had which was an mt8144. Knowing how the rod was to be used he told me I would be happier with this excel composites blank. To say this rod has some strength is an under statement. I think I almost lifted Snappermania off the ground as I aske
  21. One of the best parts of fishing. The scenery. Nice early morning shot mate. Hope the trip was succesful

  25. Now about that law suit Nev. Our solicitor says being married to her I can lose my fishing gear as well. Thats just not cricket mate. :silly: :silly:
