SighI`ve always been amazed by the mentality of the lights off brigade. Wonder if there was a blitz by Mr Water Plod whether things would change, at least for a while, with word getting around of a few people getting busted? What part of "Vessels at anchor, either sail or power-driven, must show a single white light visible all round."is so bloody hard to understand...Not that a blitz is ever likely to happen, one could be forgiven for thinking they save their efforts up for checking boats re having snapper on board before midday on season opening day.And frequently maintaining a presence on the North coast of KI, obviously lots more people fishing there than Adelaide metro or SVG...

Possibly another thing to add here, is why contemplate going solo at night unless you really have no other option? In all my years of boating and solo trips, I have never been out alone at night, and it's nice to know that you have a second pair of eyes and someone else to rely on just in case anything did happen to go wrong at night.

Yep nearly hit a boat anchored with no lights on last weekend down south, donkey switched his lights on quick when he realized we where nearly on top of him though!! :c As others have mentioned best to take it nice & easy in the dark, a decent spotlight might be a worthwhile investment.

having the ability to have the work area to be well lit is also helpful certain situations and also for safety getting bug hooks stuck in a hand or foot cause of trying to work in the dark is the quickest way to turn it into a bad night! And its always the way be careful of other boats some fisho's leave their lights off to protect spots so always give caution and travel at lower speeds to normal even is the water conditions are good!

I find my headlight to be invaluable for night trips.A handheld spotlight, GPS/chartplotter, thermos, and having everything stowed correctly so that I know where everything is, and I'm not tripping over anything in the dark.

Best advice I can give is to check the area out during daylight to be sure of the location of unmarked poles shallow areas etc Watch out for ppl with no lights too  Last time out at night we missed an unlit boat by about 20 metres. :c Next time after I know where they are I might go back and miss them by only 5  Sounds like someone might be after a snapper :woohoo:

Ive been a Daiwa man through and through for as long as I can remember but recently I have purchased 2 Pflueger reels and I think that the new models rate right up there with the best Ive used.I got a Supreme XT 2000 for bream fishing and this reel is a little beauty in every way and I can not fault it, for the price it competes with reels twice its value. The other reel is the Pflueger Arbor which I use for snapper fishing and this too fits into the same catergory as the Supreme and fights well above its weight. This reel has a drag which just has to be used to believe and holds 300mts of 10lb braid yet is not a big reel by any means.Im not familiar with the reel you are thinking of but if its anything like the pfluegers Ive bought then you wont be disappointed.cheerssnapps

Sorry for not replying eariler but here is the solution. As a Queenslander "nippers" were our bread and butter of bait. We have successfuly kept them alive for a week. The trick is a polystyrene box. You need to have the box on an angle with the bottom half filled with fresh saltwater and some sand and cover the box with a wet heshen bag. The idea is the nippers can crawl out of the water every now and then the same as the tide does not cover them 100% of the time. If they stay in water the whole time they drown that is why having them in a bucket will only work over night at best.

Ive read your post with interest as I can see your keen to get one which is absolutely awesome as there is not much tuffer than landing a metro jetty red.Hey they do get snapper off Port Norlunga Jetty but believe me you have to put in the hours and make sure you have a burley trail going.I for one will be down the most hot nights during the week and will be fishing near the end of the jetty. You need to fish near the yellow line of the marine park and cast out as far as you can. 20lb mono is exactly what I use. I have only got one 40cm fish so far but I have also landed a 12lb strongy as a by catch. During last season there was an 80cm fish caught by an asian guy and also a 66cm fish...I find a decent size ball sinker straight above a 3/0 gammakatsu circle is good with a half pillie just thrown as far as you can is a very effective method. If you fish primetimes which is the hour before through to the hour after high tides that are either first thing in the morning or near dark or fish Just on dark and first light throug to 8.00am you are a good chance of getting one eventually.Lets see what the year brings hey.I normally fish two rods and have a rapala soft tackle bag and if you find me I will be happy to fish with you and show you a few techniques to improve your chances.
