  1. some nice fish turning up in this thread, awesome.looking forward to see some more.
  2. howdy nanman,i think when we flew rex to lincoln from adelaide we were allowed 2 metres max on the rod tube.weight was similar to already mentioned.makes it hard to go on a jigging trip though, .lucky the lads driving took some heavy gear for us which paid off big time, cheers
  3. howdy bud, stoked with that fish, cheers to mick and yourself for a great trip.
  4. when you mention divers i think of the old rapid bay jetty, this cracks me up,haha
  5. cheers Boyington214,we thought big king for sure when this one took off.but five minutes into the fight when she jumped we couldn't believe it!funny thing was we caught a smaller thresher the day before but the small one didn't fight that much.cheers
  6. howdy guys,on a recent jigging trip had this fella jump on a little jig.identified as a silver dory, just thought i would share and see any other unusual captures that anyone has experienced.probably one of the best fish i have eaten aswell, cheers
  7. howdy guys, caught this blue mowie off althorpes a few years ago,not sure on the weight but definately my best, cheers
  8. some great fish guys, awesome.breaking it down to 3 only is tough, here goespt augusta thresher, went very hard this fish and completely jumped cleared of the water.my braid cut another guys anchor rope and towed us from the new power station to the shacks.probably went the hardest of all fish i have caught,it took the most line in the shortest time.caught on a live tommy,we released this fish, just too bloody big, approx 8 feet of body not including the tail.no 2 was pb mully,1.4 metres long, caught last year at far west coast.no 3 was pb king, caught a few weeks ago with absolute fishing charters,t
  9. awesome fish there nanman, yet to have a crack at a GT,but very keen.true what you say about nomads, bloody $1000 a day with nomads, pretty steep.love to have a crack at some big dogtooth tuna aswell, another one on the list, haha, cheers mate.
  10. cheers Nanman, funnily enough mate i caught this bad boy at another location.we kept this fish as it was the first biggie of the trip.weight was 31.8 kgs if i remember correctly,70lb will do me,sounds better, haha.we did get a similar size fish that we did release at greenly and it was good to see him go down in good shape on the release weight.i might post a bit more now due to aaron making the site easier to post photos.i was always reluctant to post when i did not know how to size and post photos, cheers
  11. thanks for the kind words guys.that fish was a bonus fish while anchored in greenly harbour.we had a school follow a popper to the back of the boat, awesome sight.we thought they were seals following the popper due to the bow waves they were leaving, haha.the kings were finicky and would not take jigs or livebaits and they looked to be leaving and in desperation i grabbed my 3500 game combo with a small lazer jig.then whammo,as a guess it probably took up to an hour as a guess, couple of trips around the boat on 30lb saltiga surf braid.geez i love catching kings, cheers guys
  12. howdy all,pb kingy caught a few weeks ago with absolute fishing charters, hope it works, cheers
  13. thanks GDK,not real computer savvy mate,glad it worked.last years greenly trip,cheers
  14. howdy urhookedfish, the infeets are slightly soft, you can get away with a 3000 sized reel but the 2500 sized reels probably fit the bill better, but this is only my opinion.i think it depends what you are going to do,we got 20kg tuna on the infeets last year so for the money they are not bad value.saying that saltiga bay jigger is a better stick but double the price.recently got a new 62s saltiga stick to fish my 3500 game on and believe it or not its a better stick than the 68s which before that i thought you could not get much better, lifes tough with daiwa addiction, haha, cheers mate
  15. thats a hard one when your spoilt with choice or a daiwa tragic:laugh: probably most common all round stick that comes out in the boat are my 2508 kix customs on infeet bay jiggers, not too expensive and make fishing for anything fun from whiting to squid, snapper.status phantom with a saltiga surf overhead for fast water live baiting requiring heavier weights.do have a soft spot for my saltiga 3500 game combo too.had a daiwa saltwater in the lighter range for many years that always came out in the boat and this was a great stick until i snapped it:( my 1st and only rod failure i hope:( cheers
  16. howdy Kat,checkout youtube, the boys from adelaide game fishing club were out off greenly a couple of years back and this happened to them.happened on absolute fishing charter's boat reel therapy, awesome.hopefully doesn't happen to us in a couple of weeks time, but would be good to get connected to a big one though on rod and reel, cheersB)
  17. howdy,a little colour fading on the braid is fine mate,no harm done whatsoever, normal.
  18. howdy guys,i have found that the food grade boxes of lincoln pillies the go,i usually buy a box and prepack into smaller ziplock bags of around a dozen or so.also works out alot cheaper than buying blocks and are a far superior bait.i have always found unsalted baits far more attractive than salted or brined but in saying that salted baits will catch fish.pillies go soft if allowed to thaw quickly and if left in the sun will usually render them bereley, but with a little effort you can usually keep them in a half frozen state while fishing and get good value out of the smaller packs.the good th
  19. howdy,i personally use waders and will also agree with what pillie said about being able to kick them off.buy them bigger and know what to do in an emergency if you need to kick them off quick.i wouldn't wear them out in the boat though, too risky.in my opinion waders can make the difference between catching fish and not catching, staying dry and comfortable for longer periods can really pay off big time.we found this out on our last west coast trip.just don't take silly risks in water that is too deep, cheers.
  20. braid can be harsh in the surf but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for myself.using mono for me is like fishing in the dark ages but it will still do the job.i use wind ons or slim beauty join to shock leader and have no trouble with this method, goodluck
  21. howdy branzino,i use saltiga surf 6000 teamed with 13 foot sensor surf, awesome outfit, and you could also checkout the saltiga surf rod which is basically a beefed up version of the sensor which is 3 piece.i recently got myself a iso 6000 which is a jap hybrid version of the saltiga surf spinner, awesome bit of kit aswell.i fish 50lb braid to give me a buffer and easier to deal with rays, sharks due to fishing big baits.this outfit in my opinion is overkill though for westlakes.a far better outfit for westlakes would be a 3000-3500 reel on a 9ft graphite rod.i have a daiwa infeet specialist lure
  22. howdy afishyfish, they cast excellent mate and friction is minimal, what shark fisho said is correct aswell about level winds.they can cut down casting distance but in experienced hands this is minimised when spool tension is set correct and the angler is prepared to give them a good rip when casting.practice is whats required and good technique.hope this helps, cheers.
