  1. WOOS!, I went to bed at 2.30 mate :stir:
  2. Luv your ideas mate they would be great in a world filled with guys like yourself and WB and 99 percent of the blokes on here 8)In the UK they have a ROD licence and on top of that, day ticket/season tickets for all manner of waters. Thousands of pounds for a few hundred metres of Scottish Salmon fishing stretches and that's annually. What this causes is a massive rift between the haves and the have nots and poaching is rife with all manner of fish and game being sold illegally to unscrupulous Hoteliers. It's so bad, fishery owners have to install anchored buoys laced with barbed wire to stop i
  3. I buy $10 of chicken Breast filletts and it nearly lasts a season 8)Cut lengthways into thin long broad strips, then slice the piece flat on a board to about a couple of mm thick long strips lengthways againThen cut horizontally to end up with hundreds of tiny 3mm cubes 8)I batch up my Kangaroo/curry/semolina mince into a ball big enough for one session along with a stack of the chook cubes and freeze 'em like that. (could have a dozen or so ready to go in the freezer)I can be off in minutes if the conditions are suitable 8)I use 3 snooded hooks, #10 Gamakatsu, tied with 15 to 20 lb line which
  4. Sounds good Mate, now, serious stuff, lesson one: imagine a clock face with the hands set at 10 minutes to two o' clock.Your wrist will "Cock" the Fly rod between these two parameters.Your thumb, at 90 degrees to your hand and parralel with the rod will act as a "back stop" at the "Hour" pointer.Your wrist cocks the rod forward and you "Stop" the rod when you reach the minute pointer.Sounds easy? damn right it is, you are now an accomplished technical "Fly Caster" 'cos you have mastered the theory already. The English Gentlemen are taught with thier casting forearms bandaged/strapped to thier up
  5. Have you got a favourite lure snake??
  6. Great tips there snake, strange how we can get addicted to chasing a particular species, even of fish which grow to such small sizes.I can empathise with your addiction, as I fed mine with mask/fins/snorkel on every metro beach and some Southern ones, including the Onka estuary and as far as Old Noarlunga.(picked my days)Quite amazing what can be seen and learnt in the fishes own habitat.By simply kicking sand with your fin in the Onka, small fish of all species will immediately swarm around to forage!!!Another thing which is overlooked by fishers is that fish will feed in shallow water, watch
  7. The Good Lord above bestowed upon us all an amount of skill and talent my friend and "River Dancing" is certainly not to be looked down on in any way :icon_e_biggrin: :icon_lol:Cheers, tonyb.
  8. Fantastic idea Snake, FREE of course 8) Who'd pay for the administration tho? :-\ :-\cheers, tonyb .
  9. TonyB How about you turn out at the SAFWAA outing at Golden Grove Ranger? You'll get to meet guys with extensive knowledge of fresh/saltwater Fly fishing in every field except Blue Water (Highfly can help with advice if this is your leaning in the future)Our President is a trained and expert coach who regularly holds classes for beginners/experts alike. Our membership secretary has written articles on bream fly Fishing and has an addiction for Carp on Fly which has to be seen to be believed!!(imagine a 5kg Fish on 2 or 3 kg class gear )I have a half dozen outfits which I could bring along to t
  10. Sh....t, so the reality of the situation was that the fishing gods had a major "dummy spit" with you mate. : : :icon_e_biggrin:Cheers, tonyb.
  11. yep, it's ok for hook bait carps, but a definite NO, NO, for burleying or crab netting! (try and tell some of the guys on the Jetties that tho')There's a post on here by "grumps" asking about beach fishing and it got a bit side tracked/hijacked, by me waffling on about how good "Chook" is as bait and one of the guys asked the same question as you and another one of the guys gave a link to a section of the "Fisheries" Regulations explaining it all.Being lazy by nature, I'd say have a look for it mate, if not, I'll be happy to hunt it down for you :icon_e_biggrin:Cheers, tonyb.
  12. Gotta agree with your common sense approach WB, wish more people were in tune with the rules and regs. Everybody knows they are a bit of a pain, but, absolutely neccesary if we want our kids and theirs, to enjoy this fabulous resource we have in our state and indeed all Australia .boat. :fishing:Cheers, Tony.
  13. A WILD spot for ST's as well
  14. Yep, illegal to take any Benthic (reef dwellers) of any species at any time out to a couple of metres depth past the low tide mark :police:You'd probably find if you looked closer at the "fishing' being done by these "Non Specific Races" that undersized abalone is their target mate. :thumb: Education is a fine device for prevention, but a visit from "Fisheries" would be a lot more useful in protecting our precious resources from these predators .hissy.Cheers, tonyb.
  15. Interesting one this boys, in the UK where the first Nation Builders came from, they also carried all their baggage, ie names, which they associated with thier homeland Flora and Fauna. So, the Atlantic Salmon became the Australian Salmon which of course is an oceanic fish returning to river Headwaters to breed unlike the Aussie Salmon which breeds in the ocean. To confuse matters, the Sea Trout, or Salmon Trout, also are oceanic and breed in headwaters but are no where near as big in size.I wonder if the early pioneers didn't realise that the Aussie Salmon is the same species (just like lazy l
  16. Agreed Benny, I just wondered if this guy actually knew he was doing wrong mate. May have been an inter-stater on holiday, or was just ignorant full stop :police:Cheers, tonyb.
  17. Try a 3 hook rig with tiny cubes of chicken breast filletts on size 10 round shank Owners/Gamakatsu's :icon_e_biggrin:Cheers, tonyb.
  18. Might be jumping the gun here Boys, but I was driving past the first bend upstream of the Onka Foot bridge (where the water is narrowed into a channel) at 2 pm today. There to my surprise, was a young guy fishing with a hand cast net such as is used in the tropics to catch small bait fish :oAs I had the Bride in the car for a day out, I wasn't up for a bit of confrontation so decided to get "Fisheries" on the mobile. As I didn't have the number on me :-[ I got the bride to use the Directory Enquiries on her mobile.Apparently a lady with a Kiwi accent had no record of "Fish Watch" on her Dat
  19. Here's a tip to stop those nasty bird nests 8)Before you cast whatever lure or lead out, hold your rod horizontally with your weight hanging at 90 degrees to the tip.Slacken off your bearing end cap and Gently jiggle the rod 'til the weight just moves downward 8) Try a gentle cast and if this doesn't quite make it, just fine tune with a tweak either way. 8)I've owned an Abu 9000C for 45+ years and have found this works well.As for "nests", I used to look forward to the very occasional one as a challenge to see how quickly I could get it out!! and generally at night with a headlamp too. Lovin
  20. You bring a tear of pure joy to an old farts eye with the depth of yourhumour MASTER :icon_e_biggrin:And I'd be delighted to start you on a potentially Nirvanic journey into the deepest mysteries of the Fly Fishers craft ;)Cheers,Tony.
  21. Geez, you guys are making me go all soft and reminiscy about your first fly fishing experiences ::)I was brought up at the mouth of the megga polluted River Tyne ???I got my first Motor bike, a 200cc Triumph Tiger Cub at age 18 8) 8)Saved as much as I could from my 10 pounds a week apprentice's wage.Bought a "House of Hardy" "Jet" 2 peice hollow glass, Dry fly rod 8)(Still got it 40+ years, and a different continent, later!)Drove up to Newcastle on Tyne, purchased a number of "Greenwells Glory's in Dry Fly. Drove on up to the higher reaches of the Tyne to a pretty little country town called
  22. Is that the old or new EPIRB??All the old ones will be, or already are phased out now and are/will be useless anyway ::)Time to dig deep into your pockets yet again fellow boaties ??? ???Cheers, tonyb.
  23. Hey rocket102,If your prepared to Google it you will be ploughing through endless techy stuff which will drive you to distraction : ::)Bottom line is there is very small differences in one reading of longitude or latitude which shouldn't make a great deal of difference to your favourite mark.If your real keen you can download a complex conversion table, but if your unit isnt software compatible for WGS94, then thats a waste of time too.I had 12 years worth of Metro Marks on my old 1995 Garmin and wrote them all down in a book when my "Merc" Blue Band finally "Died" a few years ago.Now I own a
