Hi Kai,I have a little "Olympus UTough" camera which is good for 3 metres depth and I've been really pleased with it.I have had a bit of success with hand held shots from the bank side but as you can imagine it's real tricky trying to frame the shots so I just go trigger happy and rattle a load off and hope one or two might come good which they sometimes do. http://www.strikehook.com/forum/23-freshwater-fishing/189424-call-that-a-safwaa-golden
  3. Don't forget the hidden tape recorder and spy cam DVD recorder for the next SAFWAA Meeting boys
  4. Fantastic initiative Darren onya for encouraging the guys to learn a fascinating hobby and you get to catch fish with your own creations as a bonus. From memory, this topic/initiative was introduced a year or more ago and although there was a lot of enthusiasm it simply died off with out getting any further I'd like to see some sort of organisation in place such as Goldy suggested, ie, a possible venue, whattimes, weekends, evenings? and any possible costs incurred like a Hall hire fee, cost of fly tying kits, hooks and materials. The "time poor" among us could then plan around and commit t
  5. Here here Wes!,this is the pecking order:NUMBER ONE... Commercial sector ie Aquaculture, line and net and pot fishing!NUMBER TWO....Recreational sea angling.NUMBER THREE...The "poor cousin" Recreational freshwater angling with ONE paying permit fishery at Warren Reservoir for two species of fish, both of which are a declared "noxious" species!
  6. Spot on Wes and one of the real scary things that I found out about SARFAC when I joined up is that it is totally funded by...... c'mon you can guess?... No?..OK Ill tell you then, its PIRSA the "Regulatory Body" for both Commercial and Recreational fishing and including Aquaculture!!I'd have to wonder how keen guys would be to have a RFL managed by an organisation with a foot in many Camps?"Ranger's" suggestion of "OUR" own (REC Fishers) Organisation, self run and self funded makes a heck of a lot of sense to me?
  7. Thanks Ranger, it took you quite a while to rise to my bait but it was hell worth the wait A brilliantly innovative and well thought out treatise mate AND, should it ever come to be OUR VERY OWN Recreational Group, I reckon you'd make an awesome President/Chairperson! I'd be the first one to put my hand up for you too :woohoo:
  8. Onya mate and I see you've got the S&H trader working for you already If you get deluged with offers I'll take any spare Raiders off your hands :woohoo:
  9. Just chuck a wanted advert on and watch what turns up, all the guys will have their new gear from Christmas and are sure to be clearing out their old kit ;)I might even be tempted to part with one of my two spares if you get stuck
  10. You should be able to pick up a second hand, Ian Miller designed, Shimano Raider for around that much cash and you will not regret a cent of the money spent :woohoo:
  11. Great to find someone committed enough to work through it and basically agree with the overall thrust of the article mate. I would be very surprised if anyone totally agreed with the whole thing without quite a few misgivings. The gnawing problem to advance our Sport and its supporting bodies is and always will be, one of FINANCE IMO.The Interstate fisherys are ALL in an incredibly good condition simply because they work under the proven system of "User Pays". Unfortunately, in our world, it's impossible to get something for nothing!
  12. PLEASE take the time to read this stunning report by Martin Salter! This is SOLID GOLD for all thinking fisherpeople every where, in my opinion and hopefully yours.Try not to bring your fixed angling opinions and read it all with an open mind?Very refreshing and exactly what Rec. Fishers in the whole of Australia need to embrace, again in my opinion.I look forward to some good healthy debate on the issues and solutions proposed Cheers, tonyb.http://bia.org.au/boat-users/rec-fishing/Exec-Summary-2011.pdf
  13. Hi Cal,Yes, I must admit that I was desperately slow getting into the weedless technology because all my lifetime experienceof fishing screamed at me that the hooks MUST be too clogged up with the soft plastic to be wholly effective. My tech savvy young fishing buddys kept pushing them until I finally relented and then, I never once looked back :woohoo:Nowadays, the weed filled dams which I used to walk past are suddenly a steady supply of magic fishing moments The best Sp's I've found to use in combination with weedless hooks, are the hollow bodied stick/flick baits which by their design
  14. Good luck with the experiment and we NEED pics of your expected success
  15. Are both of you guys suffering an identity crisis?C'mon fellahs, you BOTH can't be that ugly??? :laugh:Beautiful looking piece of water tho', wonder what she looks like in a drought?Well done fellahs and thanks for sharing the patterns doing the damage
  16. Hi Wes,Those particular jig heads you mention were bought from "Angler's Choice" in Beach Road, Christies Beach and I must confess to being hell nervous about initially paying around 10 bucks for four and secondly, would they work? as the extension piece out of the jig head to the SP gripper, is made of a very stiff wire which would mean the fish would have to bite down squarely and firmly to get a good hook up rate! Tried it out on a very snaggy stretch of the River Finnis after losing a few standard jig heads and then pulled 4 nice redfin out, one after the other with out dropping a single f
  17. Fisherman's Paradise in the City at Pirie Street has some good quality Fly Tying gear and made up flies http://www.fishermansparadise.biz/products/freshwater-fishing-range/tackle/freshwater-flies/
  18. Hi Piranha,There are quite a few stores around Adelaide which sell the illustrated weedless jig heads but you might find some difficulty getting the desired weight of lead head?I solved this problem by buying those little packs of lead shot in the weight I needed and just pinching them on to the shank with a pair of pliers, works really well and you have an infinite range of weights.Another option is to insert those little barbed type lead weights into the body of your soft plastic to get the desired weight? You can snap bits off them to make them lighter or put extra pieces in to make 'em hea
  19. I was researching a YFW Fly and happened to hit on this piece of genius :woohoo: No less a person than Peter Morse involved in its creation  http://www.flylife.com.au/library/articles/40/40.html
  20. Flash is a total killer of pics at night in my opinion mate.I get best results with the camera in auto, the flash off, (mine is permanently switched off!)and shine a light source on the subject from a side angle like a bright LED lamp.I have some acceptable pics of dead foxes, rabbits etc just using my spotlight and the method above, although the pic tends to be a bit yellowish?
  21. Brilliant looking Fly Fishnuts and some very impressive pics
