  1. Well, don't believe the hype as the marketing expression goes I'm very seldom wrong in picking a "killa" in a tackle shop as I've proved to myselfmore than a few times (the redfin were'nt too happy either in most cases!)These blades cast well on finesse gear but that's the highlight! You have to crank them real fast to attain a vibration (which is not what a redfin wants, slow is GOLD)And you need to lift them real hard and quick, again to get a vibration.OH well, win some lose some.NOW, just wait until I get my new "Cretaceous Prawns" soft plastics by "Fossil Fish" wet!!!!!They look WIKID!
  2. Just a little thank you to the guys Nailed this near kilo Brownie with my first cast on a SAFWAA Dam at a "nymphing" trout   You can just see the gold bead headed pheasant tail nymph sourced from the guys on this thread! What a thrill and this fish fought like a Rainbow on steroids! I've caught many trout and Rainbows seem to be the most spectacular, while Browns seem a lot more dogged and dour going to the bottom and strongly fighting from there! This little lady cleared the water a half a dozen times! Awesome :woohoo: Thanks again. Cheers, Tony.
  3. I must confess to being very "one eyed" about SAFWAA for trout fishing (President last year and Vice Pres the year before) However in one days fishing' date=' with a mate on only [b']one[/b] of SAFWAA's Dams stocked with trout, we caught over 40 trout on bait, lures and Flies! All released again apart from a few for baking up for a good feed.11 of these trout were between 28cms and 38cms.Only yesterday (9/12/11)from a Northern Dam, we took 8 trout with two cracking Browns too nearly a kilo, one of the latter on a hard body and the larger one on a gold bead headed nymph. This trout cleared the

  5. Thunder storms might preclude some action in the morning Sam?
  6. Got that in one Brenton, and the trebles and putting the new 00 snaps through the centre hole as well mate
  7. I hope I don't get into bother with this post, but here goes anyway!I've been driving past the new Fishing Tackle wholesalers along Dyson Road for a month or so now andfinally got a chance to call in I'd promised myself NEVER to buy another Freshwater Lure as long as I live but, I just could not resist these three tiny "Blades" at under 5 bucks each :woohoo: Just got to get 'em wet now to see if they live up to my expectations
  8. I reckon LBB sold his off at a Bargain price, his business partner still owns one tho?
  9. Good move!Just replaced a complete set of rings on an old but loved whiting rod for the princely sum of $7.50 Bare in mind you only get what you pay for. Cheap yes' date=' but how long will they last ?.[/quote']Probably wouldn't run braid with these eyes but ideal for an old knockabout rod such as our poster is asking about

    braid probs

When I started out with braid some 7 years ago, I was astounded by how fine even the 10lb braid was compared with mono and over this time I only used that, but have eventually come to the conclusion that 8 lb braid by "Rovex" is absolutely the best braid I've used. Remember I fish every single week and now I'm retired, up to 4 times a week! One of the tricks I've learned in this time is to NEVER close the bail arm with the handle! After every cast, whether near or far, I look down at the spool, make sure that the first coil is laying straight, then I close the bail arm by hand then commence wi
  12. If you mean Wirrina Reservoir mate, you're backing a loser! Fishing NOT allowed Check out some of the older posts on the Freshwater Board
  13. I once watched a guy hooking them up off Port Noarlunga Jetty with one kilo line and bread which he was pre-soaking in his mouth. Free lined a fine wire bronze hook and expected to lose them every time and was only doing it for the fight he got off the fish  He certainly got his sport but I'm not really sure about the ethics of deliberately lodging a hook in a fish and maybe a length of mono too
  14. Gotta be a million more enjoyable places to have a bit of fun with CRAPS than that stinky noisy spot down there mate    Now, Bonython Park, on a lazy sunny Sunday arvo Doesn't even matter if you don't catch anything. BBQ's, Benches, play area for the kids, free parking, central to all suburbs, kiosk, toilets and there's even a saucy looking jogger or two every now and then if you get tired looking at the other scenery around you
  15. Thanks Ranger, also binalong Maggie Beers place many moons hence, what a good idea to re visit it B)Luv to flick a Squidgy Bug through that Dam out front of the Restaurant/Shop as well, gotta be stiff with reddys in there mate. Rollcast: Thanks for the heads up on Tambo Fine Feathers and only at Swan Reach in Vic!Should be real handy in the future if I use Australia Post ;)I recently had a run down to a SAFWAA Trout Dam with one of our top class Fly fisher/Tiers and yes, the Aussie trout took a strong liking to my new Pheasant tailed nymphs Good story, good ending, cheers for all the hel

    quirky quote?

Hi Guys,I'm just enjoying Les Hawkins compendium of tales called "Great Australian Fly Fishing Stories" I came across this little gem, well worth a share in my opinion:"There is no knot or tangle, that with an infinite amount of patience, a Fly Fisherman cannot make ten times worse"Incidentally, two copies of this volume have come my way and I may be able to pass them on if there's any interest? a PM appreciated ;)I also have a fully illustrated, large hard bound book entitled "The Art of Fly Fishing" issued by the American Museum of Fly Fishing up for grabs, again if there's any interest?C
  17. Agreed Dave, also binalong Spotlight quite a bit, unfortunately a Pheasants tail feather would probably, no,definitely, not be in there and that was my need until so many kind offers recently came up from some top blokes on this Forum thanks for the heads up all the same mate
  18. Thanks Luke, I got a heads up from Mars1 about some for $7.50 plus postage but I don't have any internet accounts mate (still a li'l bit, well maybe a big bit, old fashioned about my banking details )
  19. Poor li'i bugga was probably lost and looking for a feed from Busterboy
  20. Thanks for the awesome response guys Gotta luv this forum, my cup of pheasant tail now overfloweth

  22. Cal, you're an evil man  How dare you suggest that I would STEAL a feather  UUUmmmm, eeeerrr, where exactly is this Botanic Hotel?
  23. Hi guys, binalong the UK two months and found the local trout going nuts for bead headed, pheasant tail nymphs  Fishermans Paradise in the City have no Pheasant tail feathers in but, they will be 25 bucks when they do come in. Could probably buy half a dozen nymphs for that price which would be enough for my immediate needs.Any kind soul out there want to part with even a half of a feather to get me started? I have fox tail, buck tail and natural rabbit fur for exchange and am willing to travel a bit tho' I'm based down south near Hallet Cove. PM appreciated.Cheers, Tony.]
  24. Not certain that "Atlantic Salmon" would make 10 kgs either Maybe 10 lbs would be a wee bit closer to the mark?Still a very beautiful fish and my PB Salmon of 14 lbs, caught on the River Tay in Scotland,on a 14ft double handed greenheart Fly rod, dragged me more than a hundred yards down stream before I could turn it :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
