  1. Thanks aff What should I expect to catch from these ramps and wharfs? Am i going to get blown away by some huge mackerel or similar? Pretty much only fished SA and areas around Geelong.Anyone know much about wentworth? Surely some of the fresh water fishos would know what to target round there?
  2. All comes down to Minister of War & Finance ... but I will do my best, just hope the weather is good..And you dont mind making it to Nth Haven Ramp ..........No issues getting there, work pay for my fuel  North haven would be one of the closest ramps, I'm at hope valley with the in laws until the house at Henley beach is finished
  3. Hey guys,I'm doing a charity rally next month which takes me from Melbourne to cairns via wentworth, innamincka, winton, windorah and undara. I'm wondering what to expect when chucking in a line, particulary at wentworth and cairns. I have no idea what is around and if anyone has been to these places could they offer a couple of spots for some reliable action. Plan on taking 1 rod loaded with 12pm braid and a whole bunch of lures. I know cairns has a lot to offer, fish wise, and would Los to catch myself a barra (if they are up that way). Any help would be greatCheers
  4. Me too mate! Some cracking looking rods there, as previously said it is obvious you take great pride and care in your work. Well done
  5. not confirmed but might be heading down to clayton bay for some little fishing comp. Might get use of the little rubber duckie and a chance to fish the mouth, but yet to confirm everything
  6. sorry, huge error in my last post. white minnow flick baits are what I was using. Seems to be plenty of snook down there.
  7. My rod is a 2m Penn sports rod, lots of give but has a a small eye at the end ruling out chunky joins etc. As I use it land based casting is a must. At the moment im using a Hangmans knot for the 30lb to a swivel, 60lb leader to a 3 way swivel, Hooks off the side and sinker off the bottom. Using a clinch knot for all mono leader
  8. With a reduced catch weight wouldn't the pros fetch a better price for their fish? Supply and demand.....
  9. Recently had a large run a last it due to some poor knot tying on my behalf. Problem rectified but it brought up the question of personal preferences of tying the braid to a swivel then to your trace or using a braid to mono knot? Also is it worthwhile using a mono shock leader before the trace?Any thoughts?
  10. Just snell a hook and leave an extra long tail on it. Use this remaining tail to snell the second hook whatever distance you want from the first. Type "how to snell a hook" in you tube and it'll come up. Very easy once you've done it a few times.
  11. Definitely better in the warmer months, but they should still be around. Usually not as many and not quite as meaty. Good luck
  12. Well thanks all, Managed to get my first fish on a lure on Friday night. Got a 49cm snook from the outer harbor breakwater using a white kinks flick bait. Only scored the one but managed to drop three others. Plenty of fun and definitely getting the big now that I've achieved some results.
  13. Heard some reports of sizeable snapper coming from the St Kilda breakwater in recent days. Can anyone confirm or deny?
  14. Thanks southie, but i have been doing that as well with no luck
  15. When it comes to lure fishing I'm an absolute amateur. I grew up using bait, catching squid and raking for crabs in my old stomping grounds of whyalla. The use of lures to catch fish is a relatively new one to me but I like it and am desperate to catch my next fish on a lure. The only fish I have caught on a lure is a snook using a paravane behind the tinny but that was nearly 15 years ago. I have a good selection of lures from soft plastic to hard bodies and had a few grabs but no hook ups. Whenever I cast I get follows, wether it be snook, bream or st's. But they just don't seem to hit it. i
  16. ever though it was a birth defect on the squid?
  17. After shark facts that we can use on a handout for the recreational fishing rally. Please list your facts and source in regards to this. I believe facts from Wikipedia should be excluded as it is not completely credible. As quoted by other members "you can take the shark fishers out of the water, but you wont take the sharks out of the water" - reference: just plain commonsense!
  18. What happens if you hook up at 4.30am and fight the shark for 2 hours? Does that mean you have broken the law? You can't just cut the line..... I'm sure it's not healthy for a shark to be swimming around with a hook and 500m of line hanging out it's mouth
  19. Hook size restrictions? Ridiculous..... If only the general public knew how the eco system worked out there. Just another Polly bowing down to public pressure, doesn't help when you have that idiot a while back at Henley pull in a bronzie and then start cutting it up the beach near kids and parents....
  20. Reckon you could be showing people correct fishing techniques or correct catch and release techniques :woohoo: I think I might join though, pity you can't fine people as well!
  21. I know that pirsa resources are probably pretty stretched and they have bigger fish to fry (pardon the pun) but it has to be known around the community that they can rock up anywhere, anytime and frequently. The reason these people do it is because they get away with it. The worst was seeing a family with two kids catching and keeping fish. I mentioned to one of the kids that the bream she was holding was very small and she should put it back in the water to fight another day. She asked why... I told her about size limits and the law and reasons why to release it. She didn't even know there we
  22. After I pulled in the 25cm bream I had comments from people around me like "just need to step on the ##%+ to make him fit"
