  1. I would say that braid would be a must as you will feel every hit as its no stretch. Anywhere from 4-10lb should do the trick and then use the same strength fluorocarbon as your leader. The Berkley fluorocarbon you already have should be ok. The leader is connected to your braid via a knot (I use the Uni-Uni knot, many others though). Then simply tie the leader to your jig head 1/8-1/24 depending on current, with a SP attached. I have used zman grubs, squidgy critters, atomics, etc but I can't go past the Squidgy Wriggler 80mm in bloodworm.

  2. Headed down to the Onk late this arvo in the kayak. Water level was incredibly high, so much so that I couldn't fit under the saltfleet road bridge at the first entrance!! Trolled around for a while for two ST's that were well below legal. Finally on the way back I hooked and landed my PB onk bream of 33cm on my Bassday lure. I took me for a tow and fought very hard but I netted the beast, measured him and then watched it swim away freely to fight another day.

  3. Rotare speaks the truth. We can rule nothing out as there are many variables out there that may have influenced the fish kill. I had my opinion based solely on one person's opinion but all of our opinions are based on other opinions from another person who made their judgement from someone else, etc. The only way we can truly find out is when this saga finally closes and the Gov releases the true results.

  4. Went down to the Pat before my game of soccer this morning looking for a few bream and some ST's. The ST's were around and attacked my plastic every cast. Only caught a few but later in the morning I did have a few casts around the pylons for some resident bream. My first cast rebounded off a pylon and barely touched the waters surface before a nice 31cm bream sucked in my Z-man grub and took off. It gave a good fight, better than the ST's so I was happy. Not much action after about 10am so I left.31cmBreamonZ-manGrub1.JPG31cmBreamonZ-manGrub2.JPG

  6. I've been there a few times, caught my PB bream 36.5cm on a squidgy wriggler bloodworm colour. Also got my first EP there too. This was over the border in Victoria, near Simpsons Landing I think? It is fantastically peaceful down there too but remember to get your fishing license if you're in Victoria as you need one to fish there legally.

  7. It's a great place down there with plenty of snags to cast at. I'd recommend taking some weed less jigheads for your soft plastics or change some trebles over to singles on some of your hard bodies. Makes it easier to fish without having to paddle over to a snag that your lure is stuck on to which snag could hold a great fish that your about to spook.

  8. Hiya NickD, I do a fair bit of trolling down the Onk using two Bassday Sugar Deep 50's in bright orange and also its smaller brother the Sugar Deep 35. I have picked up bream on the troll, cast and rolled slowly with a few pauses and twitches and caught some good fish. I have used it in West lakes and the Port for not much luck but I believe that most colours should work if used correctly. I usually refer back to the "Match the hatch" scenario. Whatever is locally found as bait, use a copy of that.

  9. What FishedOut means is that at higher temperatures the zman plastics heat up and change shapes or melt. So it pays to keep them in their packet not in direct sunlight on a warm day. I have had the problem of putting the zman grubs in a tackle box and them melt into one big clump of soft plastic. I should point out however that this is not a common thing, most of the time the zman plastics are fine.

  10. So far I've got one or two in each size of varying colours. I've caught salmon and tommies on the smaller ones 48 and 58 plus larger salmon on the bigger ones. I would say that common targets would be pelagics like the salmon, kingfish, etc possibly tuna with the largest waxwing. I also think that snook would be a viable target.
